Well, "The Rematch" may have lacked some of the epic quality of the first KU/OU contest, but I'll take winning in regulation over the drama/lifespan-destroying-stress of another 3 OT duel. Still, after a quick home-stand tomorrow, two very tough road games to come in difficult places to play, against KSU and Baylor. . . Fucking Kansas, and I mean that as a compliment. I can't believe Self is going to pull another league title out of his ass.

In other Big 12 news, Oklahoma State has a 23-61 road record in the Ford era; 86-102 record in the conference since Eddie Sutton retired.

Alright Niang, you got one more crack at Allen Fieldhouse. They've got a Big 12 title and a #1 seed basically wrapped up at this point, they'll be checked out! Right, Wallet Inspector ? It's the perfect time to strike!

It's the perfect time to strike! Hey, I wouldn't rule it out - I'm guessing they drop one game before the NCAA tourney. On the other hand, KU being checked out after wrapping up the B12 is what a lot of people were predicting would happen before they went on the road to Texas, and. . . well. . .

Is anyone here or on AVC setting up a pick 'em this year?

Sure, although I'd think all other things being neutral, Iowa State matches up better with KU than Texas does. I don't know if Niang and Ellis have some sort of gentleman's agreement to not play defense against each other or what, but they both seem to have good games in these meetings.
I just really want ISU to pick up another big win either here or in KC. I don't think they really 'need' it, because they are probably locked in at a 4-seed regardless, but it might get them into a better site than f'n Spokane where most bracketologists seem to be putting them.

Wallet Inspector didn't get the win we wanted, but it does feel like the Clones are peaking at the right time. Also, have to give KU fans props for the classy ovation for Niang.

@supernintendochalmer Ford is definitely getting fired this week, right? I've seen Gregg Marshall rumblings, but is OSU/Pickens really going to want to pay that kind of money on top of the big buyout?

Wowsers. UCONN/Cincinnati may be the game of the year. Two teams on the bubble playing a virtual elimination game. Back-and-forth contest. Quadruple overtime. And oh yeah, this happened at the end of 3OT:

I've seen Gregg Marshall rumblings, but is OSU/Pickens really going to want to pay that kind of money on top of the big buyout? Oh yea. He is mega fired. Check this Eddie Sutton quote from yesterday's paper: βThere was a period there (at Gallagher-Iba Arena) when the place was rocking, and it was as good as any place in America. Itβs not that way now. Itβs sad to go over there and see how few people are in the stands. βIf they change the coach, hopefully we can get somebody that all of us can pull together and try to get it back.β As far as the buyout, it might be less than that. They would owe him $7.2 million over the next three years as regular salary minus what he earns at whatever job ( any job, he could coach the Stillwater High School team) on a monthly basis. That kind of funky contract lends itself to negotiating a lump sum payout for a clean break, but it would still be a big number. When it comes to the new coach I think they're pretty much willing to pay whatever it takes to turn this thing around. Attendance has fallen by about 2,000 (!) people per game since last season, when attendance was already shitty.

Oh my god, that OU/WVU finish! officials made the right call buuuut. . . couldn't we have just pretended it was good? Buddy Hield half-court buzzer beater to force a OU/KU rematch in the championship - seriously, you couldn't have gifted him that 1/10th of a second? Amazing game regardless.

Embarrassing on-court pre-show for the ACC final - supporting the Wounded Warriors Project. That's the scam organization that spends its money on first class plane tickets and five star hotel rooms for the paid staff. Whoops.

I was rooting for you guys to get in, but the Cocks never did themselves any favors in SEC play. That being said 'Cuse getting in as a non-First Four 10-seed is this years bullshit selection, so send your hate to upstate New York.

There is absolutely no reason for cuse, vandy or tulsa to get in over us. Hell we beat both vandy and tulsa this year!

I would have taken Monmouth over South Carolina, but none of those three teams (especially Syrcause and Tulsa) deserved to make it, and certainly Vandy over SC is just nonsensical. I also don't see how Michigan State missed out on a #1 seed, but at least they can play their way through the slight.

I get leaning on the advanced analytics for some of these low to mid-majors that just don't have the opportunities to schedule well, but for a team like Vandy that has plenty of opportunities to get big wins, if the resume isn't there they should be out.

I wish. . . I'll just be scrambling to get as much work done by Wednesday night so I can take Thursday and Friday (sort of) off work. Very surprised the committee sent KU to the South Bracket (with regionals in Louisville) vs Midwest (with regionals in Chicago), though I think on the whole it's a favorable bracket for the Jayhawks - the second round scares me quite a bit, with UConn coming in on a hot streak a little reminiscent of their remarkable run in 2011. How are you feeling about the Cyclones' draw Superb Owl π¦? I honestly don't know what to expect - ISU is capable of knocking off Purdue and even Virginia en route to a deep run, but early chatter has Iona as a trendy upset pick. I don't know if I necessarily buy into that, but I do think they're the scariest #13 seed in the field.

I think it's a very good draw that I am worried about them capitalizing on because of last year's fiasco.
At first glance, Iona is exactly the kind of mid-major we want to play in the first round. We've struggled with mid-major teams like UNI that want to slow down the game and grind and Iona looks like the opposite of that. If anything, we probably play a little slower than they'd like. And of the teams floating around that 4-5 line, I don't know who'd I'd feel better about playing than Purdue. Nothing would be more perfect Niang than making a couple of NBA-bound freshman bigs look silly on his way out. Anything past the sweet sixteen is, of course, a crapshoot.
Are KU fans pissed? That is, at least on paper, a damn tough region to stick the #1 overall seed with. A hot UConn in round 2? Probably Cal or Maryland in the Sweet Sixteen? Yeesh.

I haven't heard too many complaints from KU fans about the draw so much as the region (and most of that was because many fans had already made plans for Chicago). Cal, and Maryland especially, are incredibly talented teams, but when you see some of the other 2, 3 & 4 seeds we could have drawn - Michigan State, Kentucky, Duke - I can't be too upset.
