Are KU fans pissed? That is, at least on paper, a damn tough region to stick the #1 overall seed with. A hot UConn in round 2? Probably Cal or Maryland in the Sweet Sixteen? Yeesh.
I haven't heard too many complaints from KU fans about the draw so much as the region (and most of that was because many fans had already made plans for Chicago). Cal, and Maryland especially, are incredibly talented teams, but when you see some of the other 2, 3 & 4 seeds we could have drawn - Michigan State, Kentucky, Duke - I can't be too upset. Yea, the region thing is puzzling. Especially because it really screwed over Virginia as well.

As a Mizzou fan, I feel somewhat responsible.

There is absolutely no reason for cuse, vandy or tulsa to get in over us. Hell we beat both vandy and tulsa this year! Somehow I missed the egregious inclusion of Tulsa when I first looked at the bracket. Go home selection committee, you're drunk.
What galls me is that Tulsa's coach drove a proud Mizzou program into the ground--and that's before the potential NCAA sanctions that might be coming our way (here's hoping that keeping the 10-win team from losing in the opening round of the SEC tourney is enough to keep us from harsher penalties), skips town just ahead of the braying dogs, and then gets a gift-wrapped tourney bid. The consolation I have from this is that the coach has been awful in tourney play, getting just one victory in three appearances, and led my Tigers, coming off a Big 12-2 tourney championship and a #2 seed, to a first-round loss to #15-seeded Norfolk State four years ago. In short, I am now, temporarily, a huge Michigan fan.

The thing with Frank Haith is that he did the same thing when he came to Mizzou, getting out of Miami right before the fallout from the NCAA investigation came. And presumably he will find a desperate/dumb enough AD to let him pull the same thing pretty soon when he leaves Tulsa (looking at you TCU). The guy is the smartest mediocre coach in college basketball.

Yeah, it's starting to feel like Frank Haith must have some serious dirt on some bigwig at the NCAA - getting off scot-free after leaving several programs in ruins, while getting rewarded beyond expectation for entirely lackluster coaching accomplishment.

We have till tomorrow morning, right? I'll probably fill mine out after the First Four is over, though to be fair, of the eight teams playing, Wichita State is the only one I could see making it past the first round.

So, would there be any interest in me posting my Mascot Fight bracket? I take each matchup and decide on the winner based on a battle between the mascots--i.e., if it was the Tigers vs. the Falcons, then I would pick the winner based on who would win between an actual tiger and an actual falcon. I tend to end up with the same perrineal tourney team win every year because said team has, IMHO, the most powerful mascot, but there were some interesting matchups along the way.
If anyone wants to see it, I'll post all 6 rounds, along with my explanations as to why the winning team is advancing, this evening. If not...oh well.

However, since they're just shocks of wheat...well, let's just say that agriculture is pretty easily defeated, no matter how hideous the mascot looks. Incidently, there are 13 Division I schools that have the nickname Tigers, and not one of them made the tourney. Meanwhile, 4 Wildcats out of 10 and 5 Bulldogs out of 15 are in the field.

I almost took the Stony Brook Seawolves over Kentucky in my bracket on account of their mascot, the Seawolves. And by almost I mean I actually did, because Seawolves sound awesome.

Pretty good, but I went with a different tactic...as everyone will see later tonight, when I post it.

Well, Superb Owl π¦, not a great year but a BETTER one for the B12 so far, and most importantly, your team and mine are the ones that have ended up on the right side thus far. Iona was theoretically a solid, comparable match for ISU, but quite simply, Iowa State executed while Iona didn't. I was mostly happy with our lopsided victory against Austin Peay especially our offense, but we need to defend much, much better right away against Connecticut. Not terribly surprised about Texas Tech but kind of a bummer to see another flameout for Baylor - though I can't say I didn't enjoy watching Yale pull off that upset.

If I had to pick 2 big 12 schools to blow it in the first round, they would have been it. Hopefully clones can take advantage of the chaos in their bracket and get up for another mid major on Saturday. You'd think Little Rock having to play 2OT in altitude helps us out.

Ugh I got decimated in the evening/ night games. After starting 4-0 I only got the 1 seeds and Providence right. Now I'm 2 sweet 16s out and 1 elite 8 already...

Yale/Baylor was my one screw up yesterday (and I had Baylor to the Sweet Sixteen...woops), but otherwise I am currently leading my office pool.

Arizona, blowin' it hard. Maybe, but they also got screwed by getting paired with an underseeded Wichita. See also: Seton Hall and Gonzaga.

Grumble grumble...work has blocked access to ESPN's bracket contest, so I'm not positive how I'm doing (I fell asleep a bit early last night, which is why I didn't post my Mascot Fight. I'll do that tonight). I know I had Little Rock over Purdue and Wichita State over Arizona, but I think I had Baylor and Seton Hall advancing. Weirdly, none of my Final Four picks have played yet, so there's still time for one of them to join Iowa State, Georgetown, and Missouri in my Final Four Picks Who Lost in the First Round Hall of Shame.

Congrats, Michigan State! Not only do you become the fourth member of my Final Four Pick That Loses in the First Round Hall of Shame in five years, you also become the first that I predicted would win it all to go down in the first round!
Wake me when Mizzou wins a SEC road game.

Unlike a third of the country apparently I didn't have Michigan St in the Final Four, so this upset makes me pretty happy.

Just this afternoon I was wondering the last time a fifteen seed advanced, and now I see it effectively wiped out most of the competition in both of my pools (by strategy I never have Michigan State going too far because I know all of the homers are picking them as champions). Yeah, I took a bit of a hit on this one, but it'll pay off in the long run.

I'm out four Sweet 16 picks and one Elite 8 pick so far; doesn't seem too bad.
