Unlike a third of the country apparently I didn't have Michigan St in the Final Four, so this upset makes me pretty happy. I had them winning it all, but you better believe I'm rooting for an upset like that every time.

CBS picked a good game to show on the main network: SF Austin over WVU by a mile.

Hawkguy you grew up in VA, didn't you? Any thoughts on the Cavs or their fanbase?

We may have achieved peak Charles Barkley with this UNI-Texas A&M game

I didn't even know he did play-by-play. Is that because of the power outage in the trailer?

Me and Hawkguy are really bringing up the rear of the group, but we both have our Final Four intact. I sure would like to see Maryland come in on Kansas and destroy everyone's bracket but mine.

The Cavs have their best coach since since Terry Holland. It's always about confidence with UVa. The fans? Eh, top state school, not that different from UNC or Georgia. Loud enough to aid the defense on the home court. In both football and basketball, UVa tends to get over-ranked, not sure why. Good thing is it's a pretty balanced sports program with strong teams in baseball, soccer, tennis, a bunch of stuff. The same is true of a lot of SEC and Big 10 schools, even with their horror-show football regimes, but whatever, worth mentioning. Nobody's going to fire the UVa president for a losing football season. But football is a vastly powerful force at UVa, but basketball may be more beloved.

So after all the talk of parity and a wide open field and some double digit upsets on Saturday, it looks likely there will be no true Cinderella in the Sweet 16. Wisconsin, Syracuse and St Joe (if they win) would kind of fit the bill, but they're all power conference schools; Gonzaga's an 11 seed but they're very much a known quantity in the tournament by this point. UNI is the closest to the mark, but like Gonzaga they too are (unfortunately for my Jayhawks) a not unfamiliar face in March Madness. Despite early rumblings, doesn't seem like we'll have that true come-out-of-nowhere school like VCU or George Washington of years past.

Actual game scares the crap out of me too. The Cyclones seem completely dialed in right now, but I don't think Virginia is a good match-up for them at all.

Jamie Dixon hired at TCU. If he can get it going there, the deepest conference in college basketball will just get that much harder, especially since Okie State is likely to make a big coaching improvement soon as well.
Pitt will be an interesting, attractive opening.

@supernintendochalmer BRAD UNDERWOOD!! That's a nice hire and I'm sure there are some pissed K-State fans today wishing they'd just pulled the trigger on Weber before Underwood got snapped up.
Obviously some teams are going to stay at or start falling to the bottom (Tech and Tubby, I think will regress), but it really looks like the Big 12 is becoming even more of a murderer's row.

Cautiously optimistic - waiting to see how long the contract is. But yea, Weber might be the worst coach in the conference now with a Final Four on his resume. Pretty nuts.

Huge coaching upgrades around the Big 12 for sure. Should be an even more competitive year next time around. Superb Owl 🦉, how are you feeling about ISU's challenge on Friday? Virginia looked solid but not unbeatable, especially against Butler. Hard to really ascertain the level the Cyclones are currently playing at when they've faced two double digit seeds, but playing at their best, they're capable of a deep run. It's fascinating and surprising to me that immediately following the departure of coaching institutions Fred Hoiberg and Bo Ryan, we're still seeing ISU and Wisconsin make pretty good runs. Especially with how suddenly Ryan left and how lost Wisconsin looked midway through the season. As for Kansas, it was just a relief to make it out of opening weekend. Maryland frankly has more pro talent than us, and could be an incredibly tough match if they play like the pre-season top 5 pick they could be. Still, KU is clearly a team that's come together at the right time - if we lose, it's because we took a step backwards.

I think Iowa State has a good chance to beat Virginia tomorrow, which is probably all you can ask for once you hit the Sweet Sixteen. Lots of intriguing questions to that game. Is the pack-line defense going to be too frustrating for Niang to be his most effective, or does his passing and outside shooting mean he was built to beat it? Was our noticeably better defense last weekend a mirage, or a sign that things have clicked at the right time for this group and they can stick through long possessions by this efficient Virginia team? Which senior, Brogdon or Niang, is more desperate to cement their legacy with a run? I'd be feeling pretty good about KU against that Maryland squad. Even in their wins last weekend and during the season, those pro talent pieces just do not fit together in a cohesive whole.

Nice career Georges Niang. Just didn't figure out an efficient Virginia offense fast enough.

Nice career Georges Niang. Just didn't figure out an efficient Virginia offense fast enough. Damned impressive final game for Niang to end his time at ISU with. League won't be the same without him next year, but still a really fun run and really fun Cyclones team. The swan song for Perry Ellis unfortunately was considerably less stellar, with just four points on one field goal. Wayne Selden also had a rough outing, missing all 6 three point attempts, most of them open looks that were missed badly, and alas: rough Ellis game + rough Selden game = very difficult for us to win. Mason and Graham kept us in it, but turnovers in the first half were atrocious and we left something on the table with some wasted late possessions. Ultimately, I think this will a mixed legacy, with a group featuring little pro talent that frankly played beyond their abilities, highlighted by terrific conference play and a pretty deep tournament run that finally got the monkey of second round exits off our back - but ended just short of the Promised Land. . . Go Oklahoma! Any day we get to watch Buddy Hield play another game of basketball is a good day.

Certainly possible to see a scenario where a few more early shots drop or a couple head-scratcher fouls don't get called on him and that game goes differently, but I think objectively Virginia was a better team. I think as soon as we lost Naz Mitrou-Long for the season, ISU fans had time to resign themselves to a Sweet Sixteen being a successful season and early dreams of getting further were going to be a stretch. As for the tournament in general...How the hell is Syracuse in the Final Four?!
