Highlights from almost 3 year old Owl Jr.'s bracket: -A 16 seed or 15 seed winning a first round game in every region -Iowa State National Champs!!! (very proud dad moment) -An unbelievable run to the Elite 8 for the UC-Irvine Anteaters -Purdue shocking Kentucky in the 2nd round.

Group password is avclub2013. Oddly, it let me join (and showed me the password) without requiring the password. I signed up! I like participating in things! I joined too. Full honesty, I don't watch College Basketball, so ... I guessed.

Unfortunately, we're only allowed to have one bracket in the AV Club bracket, so I entered in my boring one that has the same national champion that nearly everyone else's bracket does. A friend of mine's group allows for multiple brackets, so I also did a bracket where I determined the outcome of every game by coin flip (and still somehow ended up with a #1 seed--Wisconsin--as the champion), a reverse chalk bracket where the lowest seed won every game (Robert Morris wins that one), and a mascot fight one, where I determined who would win each game based on a one-on-one fight between each school's mascot/nickname (i.e. a fight between an actual tiger and an actual wildcat, not between one school's anthropomorphic tiger mascot vs. the other school's anthropomorphic wildcat mascot). I ultimately decided that Satan will beat humans, animals, and forces of nature, so congrats on winning that bracket, Duke!

oh man i forgot about this bracket! (and I'm pretty sure I created it!) It says that Rob15862 is the creator. Pretty sure that's you. I wish I knew who all these other folks are. Based on the bracket names or userids, I only recognize like 25% of the entries.

Oh no.
Edit: Georgia State hanging tough as well. I knew that the big 12 was overrated nationally (OSU a 9 seed?) but this is ridiculous.

GODDAMMITTTT!!!!!! Did you learn your lesson after Maryland (who actually turned out to be decent, but you didn't know that)? NO! Did you learn your lesson after South Carolina? FUCK NO! Did you learn your lesson after goddamn Texas Tech?! OF COURSE NOT!!! I don't care if you are most definitely better than the other team, you still have to actually try and attempt something other than SportsCenter passes on every play until you piss a 10-point lead down your leg!!! I...I am just sad now

Sort of sucks the joy out of the whole opening weekend, especially when you know you had such a talented team. Rough, rough finish.

Yea, I'll get over it pretty quick, but I doubt I'll muster up the enthusiasm to watch other games when I get home tonight. As long as Iowa doesn't make a big run...that would be twisting the knife too much in this state.

On the occasions when KU has been upset (and there have been far too many), the only thing I end up rooting for is a higher seed to lose in order to bump the Kansas upset from being the top story.

Wallet Inspector @supernintendochalmers I can already hear the keyboards firing up hot takes about how overrated the Big 12 was this year.

In the grand scheme of things, having your team get upset isn't that big of a deal, but at the moment... Three years ago, I could only watch as my alma mater lost to a 15 seed. That was bad enough, but on top of all the other stuff I had gone through over the previous two weeks (gotten laid off, grandmother died, bad car accident and dickish insurance company), seeing them go down really felt like the icing on the shit cake that was my life right about then.

A big part of the epic flameout of the Not-So-Big 12-2-2+2 yesterday was the even more epic flameout of the state of Texas. 5 teams in the tourney, 0 teams alive on Day 2 (not counting the First Four, because no one counts the First Four).

Oh, and for the 3rd time in 4 years, one of my Final Four teams goes out in the first round. Welcome, Iowa State, to the club. You can hang out with 2013 Georgetown and 2012 Missouri right in here.

Yea, going with my heart while filling out my bracket was not the way to go. From now on I'm just going for the reverse jinx every year and having ISU lose in the first round.

I thought one guy in our office pool was some kind of guru for picking both UAB and Georgia State, but on further inspection, he just picked a shit ton of upsets and got lucky on those two.

Besides Kansas moving forward, there's nothins I want more in this tournament than for UC-Irvine to win. Because - obviously - Anteaters. There's no more endearing a college mascot than the Anteaters.

Good grief. Just realized the wedding I am going to in Tucson tomorrow will be taking place during the second half of the Ohio State/Arizona game. Wonder how many of the attendees will be covertly watching their phones?

My bracket, the tennis bracket, could only be doing worse if it was in the hands of Andy roddick in any grand slam that wasn't the US Open.
