Wallet Inspector Would KU be willing to drop a game or two down the stretch here so we can have a share of the title? Thanks in advance! You jest, but I'm legitimately nervous about the next few days. Regardless of record, the Octagon's a dangerous place for us to play, and as tough as Baylor is I don't see them being a problem for ISU at Hilton, so I'm fearful you may get your wish by Wednesday. . . God I hope you are as right about the second part of this as you were about the first.

Yep. Seeing that one coming ahead of time was no comfort at all. As awful a year as KSU's had, at this point they're like a wounded animal and that made last night particularly dangerous for us. Cliff Alexander needs to be about a million times more effective not to justify the hype (too late for that) but just to give us a fighting chance in the postseason. We're not going to get far with Ellis being our only consistent contributor - somebody in the revolving circle of Oubre/Selden/Mason/Graham will have to be more reliable.

Yea, what's the deal with Alexander? Is Self just not using him enough, or using him incorrectly?
I know when you guys played up in Ames he just seemed a half-step slower than everyone else the whole game.

That is so, so awesome. Maybe the best arena of any sport in the country. Does make me a bit cranky at how much Gallagher-Iba has fallen off. This was apparently the crowd that was in the house for the most recent ISU game, when both teams were ranked. Can't blame it all on the NBA moving in, Travis. Also - the Roy Williams 4-corners offense tribute was awesome. I doubt GIA would be near as bad if they hadn't added all those seats a few years back. That was a big mistake. Eh. It was full when I was there. And that was mostly Sean Sutton.

So we're all Big 12 fans here, pretty much. Can somebody explain to me how the fuck Wichita and Northern Iowa get ranked in front of all of us but Kansas when UNI's best win is against Wichita and Wichita's best win is against Tulsa? I think they are decent enough teams, but is there any chance in hell that either of them would be higher than 3rd or 4th in the Big 12, or that someone like Iowa State or Baylor would be running away with the Missouri Valley?

Wichita is getting residual credit for being undefeated and playing Kentucky to a 2 point game in the tournament last year. By the Transitive Property of Remembering Last Year and No One Actually Watches That Conference, NI gets a bump for beating that team.

As nice as it's been seeing Oubre gain confidence and consistency, Alexander really represents the role - inside presence who can power it to the basket - we're most sorely lacking this year.

I'm sure you're glued to ISU-Baylor Superb Owl π¦, but this VCU-Richmond match is a game of the year candidate.

Ugh...well, at least I'll be more productive at work for the rest of the week since I will now need to take a little break for college hoops coverage again.

Very generous of your boys to do that for us. That was a pretty epic comeback. I do hope we finish strong and take care of business tonight against WVU to claim the title outright at home. In all honesty, I've been more invested in seeing Kansas take home #11 in a row not just for the significance of that milestone, but because I just don't see this Jayhawk team making a deep tourney run. Too few players apart from Ellis and Oubre capable of consistency, and lacking an inside scoring/defending presence. Will be interesting to see how things play out in the next week with Texas, KSU and even Oklahoma State around the bubble. I'd say OSU is probably in, and KSU needs to win out the season and make it to the B12 championship game, if not win the tournament outright.

I had pretty much written off the game around half-time and was mostly dealing with a crying infant that wouldn't go to sleep. I didn't even see the technical that set off the comeback. Next thing I know they're back within 10 and you could just tell that the switch had flipped.
I really hope they can bottle whatever happened last night and turn it into a tournament run, either in KC or more hopefully the NCAA. I'm still a little pessimistic though, just because they've been soooo damn inconsistent. When things are going well, they are amazing. But they can blow 30 minutes of great play with a 5 minute stretch where they just completely lose their minds.

Wallet Inspector my favorite part of this article is the caption under the picture: "Cliff Alexander has received variant playing time this season."

Hahahahahaha Rick Barnes, I hope you coach at Texas forever. Wallet Inspector here's hoping ISU and KU both take care of business tonight and meet in the final.

Yeah, it's interesting: we split the series with both ISU and Oklahoma, the two candidates we may play tomorrow, but I don't know of any KU fans who aren't rooting on some level for a KU-Iowa State rematch. Those games are just so competitive and dramatic and memorable - I'm definitely hoping ISU handles the Sooners tonight. On a related note, I don't know if you've ever attended the Big 12 tourney in Kansas City before Superb Owl π¦, but it's a phenomenal environment. It's not the most convenient arrangement since I work in downtown KC and getting to/from meetings is an absolute madhouse right now, but it's really special. And I'm not the only one to note this, but beyond KU fans attending what is essentially a de facto home game, the Iowa State presence here in KC is seriously impressive. Obviously you guys travel well, and there's no comparison to how strongly you represent yourselves here - this town is basically owned by KU and Iowa State right now.

I haven't been since I was in pep band in college. That was fun, but it was the McDermott years for ISU so I'm hoping to get down there again one of these years to experience the real craziness. You always hear rumors about going back to alternating with OKC or Dallas again, but that would be a terrible idea.

Good lord, I cannot comprehend how Oklahoma missed that perfect last look inside, other than it being meant to be that KU and ISU meet one more time. Wow.

Wallet Inspector well, that was an instant classic in my book, although a KU fan may feel differently. It will be interesting to see how seeding plays out today. I think KU and ISU are going to remain locked in as 2 and 3-seeds respectively, but it wouldn't completely shock me to see us get flipped now either.

I had to work an event on Saturday and was only able to watch the second half. That was the wrong half to watch. But yeah, no question that was an instant classic no matter what side you fall on. It was surreal to watch a Sprint Center contest that didn't feel like a de facto home game for the Jayhawks - Hilton South indeed. Congrats to the Hawkeyes! (ha, I know, I know - just joshin' you guys!) I agree that KU and ISU will remain 2 and 3s respectively. I know some Cyclone fans will disagree if that's the case considering you took two of three from us, but I still think Kansas ends up a notch ahead due to insane Strength of Schedule, which by some accounts may stand as one of the toughest in NCAAB history. Personally, playing in Omaha is more important to me than the specific seeding.

Forget about Kentucky - if we get to the elite eight and are in a position for a KU-UK rematch, I will be thrilled because we've exceeded expectations. New Mexico State is a TOUGH first round match-up - I hate hate HATE it, but that is by far the most likely 15-2 upset. And then. . . and then! I know the committee says they don't think about these things, but come on! Wichita State-Kansas potentially second round?!? You're telling me the Shockers, a top ten team for much of the year, are just a #7 seed?? It'll be a tense, dramatic match-up if we reach it, but they are way underseeded. . . and since KU has been steadfast in their refusal to play WSU, holy shit, Wichita State has to be absolutely champing at the bit about the opportunity. . .

Anyone want to make a group for March Madness? I'm definitely into it! I don't know if I'll have time this week to set one up, but would love to get in on it if somebody can create a group.

I can definitely make one. Do we want one just for the TI Forum? I know there's an AV Club group that I rejoined, but I can make another one.

I'm hoping someone at the Old Country will remember, but it's possible we might create a new group.

To be fair, are we sure Wichita is that good this year? What are the good wins besides UNI at home? At least Northern Iowa had @stephen F. Austin and Iowa on a neutral court.
I hear you though. I'm really hoping the possibility of a re-match with Iowa in the sweet sixteen doesn't come to pass. I'm confident we are much better than them, but the days leading up to that game will be unbearable if it happens.
