I see those two on AV Club all the time. The regular people one in particular irks me, as if celebrities are demi gods who only occasionally turn into swans or bulls and come down to mix with us mortals. All of those "articles" are so terrible. Like there's the one that keeps popping up about celebrities who let themselves go, and it has a picture of Carrie Fisher next to someone else (Steven Tyler maybe?). If you look at the article, there's like one person who went really bad, and then 15 people who just surprisingly got older. Carrie Fisher is 58 and looks 58. Of course she doesn't have the same body she did 40 years ago. I was looking at that exact one yesterday and thinking how damned misleading the Carrie Fisher photo was. You can click on the right top hand corner and choose a reason why you don't want to see it "Uninteresting", "Offensive", "Misleading" , etc. I keep clicking those thinking I can train the site to understand I don't give a shit about celeb stories, particularly ones that seem written out of spite "Look how ugly they are now!" "Look how ugly the person they married is!" anyway it doesn't seem to be working. But at least I can make them go away for a bit.

Oh and while looking up this subject, I found a dedicated twitter feed called @savedyouaclick that exists solely to mock clickbait by 'spoiling it.' But I also found this: Please Stop Saving Me A Click ... by Buzzfeed.

I read that article and was confused that it wasn't written by Alessandra Stanley.

'Can You Guess The Celebrity From The Side-Eye? So much shade.' The "side-eye"? Huh? You mean their "eye" you goddamned monkeys? Ok, I've got to stop now or I'll just keep copying and pasting until i want to jump off of a bridge. Celebrities are very easy to identify from their third eye.

I would say that headline is accurate, I know I shed some tears over the current state of journalism after reading that.

There's another one specifically about "celebrities who married ugly people". Oh yeah, and that has a picture of Pierce Brosnan and wife, who is a totally normal looking woman and not ugly.

This one from that section above the comments on AVC
"11 FAMOUS People With College Degrees" (with a picture of Sasha Baron Cohen in character as Borat)
I just have to ask, does anyone, anywhere actually find that interesting? They're famous and they went to college. My life is soooooooo muchmore enriched knowing that.

That pisses me off even more, that some dipshit decided that because she isn't movie star good looking she's UGLY. I wish I knew some people who are part of Anonynous, Instead of harrassing Iggy Izalea couldn't they just shut down these retarded sites with Denial of Service attacks? Cause I'd support that.

Today at Salon:
Kanye’s West Bank blind spot: Is Yeezy missing an opportunity to speak truth to power? Solidarity with Palestinians seems a logical cause for Kanye, but he and Kim are vacationing in Tel Aviv instead
The accompanying photo is of Kanye, Kim, and a defiant looking Benjamin Netananyu in the forefront. And I can't think of a sillier article premise that I've seen in quite a long while.

There has to be some kind of pithy term for stuff that's just pure, trashy E!-level celebrity news that wraps itself in politics to make it seem respectable.

10 Reasons Why This Generation Is Losing The Ability To Be In Love
Really? I think there are quite a few people in my generation who are: 1) Still falling in love (particularly queer people, who now have the privilege of equal marriage). 2) Realizing that there are other avenues to happiness that are not all about finding 'the one' and starting a family 3) Feeling more freedom in their sexual choices. Maybe it's just me, but I think it's rather telling the article was written by a guy.

I'm also pretty sure that alcohol use is down with the current generation, but I don't care enough to actually look up statistics there.

Don't know the statistics, but the articles myopic views and sloppy, haphazard 'evidence' is festival of stupidity in its own right. God forbid that author ever read F. Scott Fitzgerald. Or Edith Wharton. Or George Eliot. Or the Bronte Sisters. Or Socrates. He'll be just shocked to learn these ideas about each generation being callous and caught up in inane frivolities to be, *gasp*, familiar terrain for centuries! If only he had taken Eliot's advice: 'It is a narrow mind which cannot look at a subject from various points of view.'
