I don't care about Jimmy Fallon. I don't much like him, so I don't watch him. Occasionally he'll have a funny bit that goes viral, so I'll watch that, have a good chuckle, and move on with my life! I don't understand the sheer anger the AVC has about a middle-of-the-road performer continuing to be middle-of-the-road. That's what he does. It's for our parents, not us. God knows they need some joy in their lives, seeing what their children have become. I'll go one further: I don't care about late night talk shows, their hosts, anything about the form whatsoever. Except for The Larry Sanders Show.

And do they therefore even deserve to feel joy? No, I think I agree with you. He's competent at doing what it is that he's trying to do.

I think you like nothing more than watching Jimmy Kimmel do super fun lip synch competitions with Ellen and Justin Timberlake and you WOO!! and LOL along with the studio audience with abandon.

Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, David Letterman, Conan O'Brien--none of them has ever meant a thing to me. I can't get on board with that! Dear god, what have I begun...?

Yes, he laughs a lot. Yes, he's very chummy with his guests. It isn't fucking 60 Minutes. It's the Oceans 11 of late-night: good-looking people being chummy.

I'm generally with Meth Lab Shenanigans, I don't have too much an opinion about his show. It produces some entertaining stuff now and then, but it's pretty much the perfect fluff for a late night show. And the more I watch clips of SNL under his tenure, the more I realize this is what he's built for. The mother fucker's always breaking. It's charming in moderation, but there are times when I'm rewatching some solid sketches he happened to be in and it's just like "jesus christ, dude, control yourself". Excessively chipper. I mean, terrible traits in a comedian. Perfect ones for a talk show host. And yeah, the games he plays with his guests are kinda kitschy when the guests aren't feeling it (and I tend to sympathize with the guests). But man, when they're into it? It's pretty charming. I don't know. The guy's clearly enough of a household name; if you hate his guts you should be happy he's preoccupied with this and not, like, still in comedy/acting.

Adorable, but no. Literally watched one clip of the guy because of something funny someone else was doing in shot. And don't even get me fucking started on the WOOing.

I don't even dislike fallon, but that still feels like a slap in the face to Ocean's 11. Ocean's 11 was an awesome film. I think you are looking more for Ocean's 13, but not 12....... we don't talk about 12.

I don't really get the love for Brooklyn Nine Nine. Yeah, it's fun, but not mind-blowing.

i still love gravity falls. it does what it needs to do, just like regular show-- it makes me laugh; also adding we bare bears to this list.btw, i use this as my contact photo for my little brother on my phone. Is this a. .controversial statement? Am I that out of touch with GF fans/AVC GF fans? No, it is they who are wrong. I've felt that Gravity Falls has consistently only gotten better since season one.

I, too, feel like everyone still loves Gravity Falls. And anyone who doesn't is a person I don't want to know.

I don't really get the love for Brooklyn Nine Nine. Yeah, it's fun, but not mind-blowing. I don't think anyone thinks it's revolutionary or anything. I'm pretty sure it's just relief that there is still a successful middle-ground between "niche comedy that can only survive on Netflix, HBO, etc." and "latest offering from Chuck Lorre Broad Laffs Factory".
That and the presence of national treasures Andre Braugher and Terry Crewes.

The AVC comments on anything regarding mountaineering tend to piss me off. I don’t think people whose main hobby is watching television are really in much of a position to judge others’ hobbies. Are there a lot of times when the AVC comments center around mountaineering??

Are there a lot of times when the AVC comments center around mountaineering?? If Jean-Luc Lemur is referring to the comments on the Everest review I agree with him actually. There was an awful lot of "All mountaineers are idiots who deserve whatever happens to them."

"Why would people be commenting about mountaineering on AVClub?" "Because it's there."

A lot of the hatred for Great Job Internet seems to have devolved from a rational reaction toward a sub-par feature to knee-jerk bitterness over strangers having more fun than the commentariat. Like, even the occasional genuinely great stuff that gets posted on there (like the Hamibal puppet shorts) gets greeted with the same level of "god, these people are pathetic, creating something that amuses them/other people, this is so stupid, etc" comments (not to forget the "[INSERT BAD THING], Internet!" "jokes"). And it appears to be the same 10 or so people who, for some reason, keep clicking on this feature to whine about it instead of ignoring it, which seems like the exact opposite of the rational thing to do if mashup tumblr blogs and Youtube shorts upset you that much and you need them to go away.

here is where i disagree: "i think we should see other people, Internet." was one of my all time favorite comments, among a nice chunky handful. i never tire of those.

"The Departed" is quite a silly movie. It's supposed to be a comedy played straight, right?

I really, really, really like Tom Petty. I don't think this quite fits into 'heresy' though, more of a 'thing that would get me made fun of.'
*receives tons of 'would you ask Tom Petty that?' jokes, cries*

He is cool dude who makes cool music.

What's unusual about B99 is that there are two black men in positions of authority (one of whom is gay and it's treated as perfectly normal and not a joke), two Latina women who aren't there to be ~sexy and fiery~, a white manchild who doesn't actually get away with it as his life is pretty much a trainwreck, a white dude of a type that's usually painted as insultingly emasculated, and...Gina, who would likely be portrayed as an airhead or just flat-out mean/slutty on another show. Most of that is pretty mind-blowing.

It's more of 'everyone sorta likes this but it's not something to ever be talked about as seriously being a fan of because it's kind of a generic thing everyone likes (and their dads do too).' Or something like "hah, only a lame-o like Billy Bob Thorton would use Tom Petty as a go-to reference for 'a real rock and roll guy.'" See! I knew all the cool kids would turn on me if I said something!
