I don't understand the "watch me play a video game" videos. I just don't understand the appeal at all, I don't understand why people watch them, I don't understand what possible enjoyment comes from watching someone else play a video game. I'm angry if I go to a friend's house and I have to watch them play a single player video game, why would someone willingly do that? Also Pinterest, I don't understand the concept behind Pinterest at all. I don't know if these are AVC heresies, but I wanted to talk about them. (that said, Monster Factory is a very funny series, but I don't get play-throughs at all) I have never understood why people watch other people on TV play golf. I just don't get it. To me, that is the prehistoric equivalent of watching someone else play a video game.

I'm terribly embarrassed by how far behind I am when it comes to new music. That said, I have to admit I'm just not that into Radiohead. I'm sure it's not them, it's me. And I have never watched Girls because I really don't think I'll like it. Even crueler, I don't like looking at the main chick. Her whole being confuses me. Oh and Firefly was just ok. I'm with you on Radiohead. Their greatest hits collection is gonna be awesome but none of their albums hook me as a whole, and I just feel left out when they drop something new and everyone I know is ga-ga over it. You're on your own on the Firefly thing though, even I have limits!

Basically all of the new metal (not to be confused with nu-metal - which also sucks) gives me a terrible headache or bores me.
It's cool that a dude is really good at the twelve stringed guitar, but my desire to listen to an instrumental concept album is basically nil. I don't know what a djent is, nor do I care. Just because a song is in 12/8 and not 4/4 doesn't make it a good song.

Also based on how they dress, I'm one thousand percent sure that I am not interested in the 21 Pilots band.

I feel this is more of a presumptive heresay, but I don't hate the Olympics. I get why people have problems with it but I don't care. I always enjoy watching them when I get a chance. (Though I do get sick of swimming and gymnastics getting all the attention.)

(Though I do get sick of swimming and gymnastics getting all the attention.) I don't hate the Olympics, I still watch sometimes, but I pretty much gave up on them when they officially allowed professional athletes participate. The entire premise was that it was about "amateurs". I know that in today's world that is total bullshit, but at least it was people who had dedicated years to just these games, not someone you see on TV regularly already, taking a break between pro seasons. Also, I always watch more of the winter games just because I really like seeing events like the ski jumping, bobsled, and luge. I think they appeal to my "hold my beer and watch this" upbringing. I can relate more to events that seem really fun and exciting, while also incredibly dangerous and stupid, where things can go horribly, horribly wrong at any moment.

I prefer the winter olympics because I'm Canadian and also because they're a lot more focussed, but yeah, the Olympics are fun from a spectator's perspective. This year's should probably be cancelled before all the athletes die, though.

Parade of Nations is the most boring part of the Olympics that isn't Rhythmic Gymnastics.

Also based on how they dress, I'm one thousand percent sure that I am not interested in the 21 Pilots band. I feel like I should like them more than I actually do. Like, they're a genre-blending indie pop group that has a weird logo and writes songs about social anxiety, that is exactly the sort of shit I should be eating up, but I just can't stand them.

They're more interesting to me anyway.

I like Garrison Keillor and his writing quite a bit. A Prairie Home Companion got old for me years ago, but "News from Lake Wobegone" is unimpeachable; if that's not on I have no reason to listen again.
But I already knew the commentariat were joyless after they shat on CarTalk.

But I already knew the commentariat were joyless after they shat on CarTalk. Maybe they were simply confusing the NPR program with the Pixar film Cars, you know, the one about the sentient cars that can talk?

Coldplay doesn't deserve the hate they get at the AVC. I assume that the kind of mindless "everyone hates them so I will too" one sees on the subject is functionally similar to the mood at a Trump rally.

I don't find Maria Bamford at all funny. My SO has been binging Lady Dynamite and I've laughed twice in six episodes. She should press all my buttons, and I genuinely feel bad that I don't find her funny hardly at all, but man. I really, really don't.

Sometimes AVC comments sections make me think my sense of humor is really stupid and immature. Like today, the teaser for Comedy Central's new judge show where the judge is totally baked and can't understand what's going on. I thought, "Hey, I would laugh at that. I bet the clip is super funny." (The clip didn't load in my browser.) But all the commenters were like "ugh kill this show with fire so unfunny and horrible"
And then recently there was that thing where Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron are making a romcom, and I thought, "hey, that will probably be funny." But again the commenters were all, "ugh terrible no." One of the comments singled out Zach and Miri Make a Porno as a precedent. Well, you know what? I saw Zach and Miri in the theater. And I knew it wasn't great. But I laughed, repeatedly, dammit.
Also, "The Interview" is a funnier movie than "Zoolander."
At least the pretentious joke police and I can probably all agree on the hilarity that is people getting slapped with fish. Right?? Else, what is the world coming to??

I've been depressed today, and reading over old posts in this thread has been weirdly cathartic. 2015 was a long time age, wasn't it. (Also, I don't know what A.V. Clubbers find funny nowadays, if anything.)
