It barely even has continuity, much less serialization (as the AVC's review of last week's episode discussed) so you can pretty much just jump in wherever and see if it suits your fancy, then watch other episodes as you see fit. Possible entry points: Season 2 episode 3, "Synchronized Swimming" Season 3 episode 11, "Nude Beach" Season 3 episode 15, "O.T.: The Talking Toilet" Season 4 episode 5 "Turkey In A Can" (this is a personal favorite) I'm also partial to S3E21 "Boyz 4 Now" and S4E13 "Mazel Tina". Oh, and S3E16 "Topsy"

I consume so little pop culture that I'm only ever on TOC randomly nowadays. I never was into what the cool kids were into except when the Trek recaps were running, but once DS9 wrapped up my use dropped sharply. I don't care what none of y'all say, though, I still love me some Weird Al. Not fanatically as I used to, but I have the latest album and saw the last tour, and was gonna go to this one, but he's sold out here and I'm delighted! He's within an hour drive the next day, but I'd have to go at 4 in the afternoon- he sold out a later show there too! Yeah, I'm a little stoked. Eight thousand years later, I ended up getting a last minute ticket on Stub Hub- I was 4 rows back from the stage or something ridiculous and got to meet Weird Al after. He signed my ticket! I'm still a little squealy thinking back. Considering my other big concerts this year are Yes and well, Yes, I think I'm Officially Out Of Touch. Bye pop culture, it was nice when I knew you existed. ETA: Another heresy: Can't care less about Star Wars. My work peep wants me to come over to marathon the first 6- I kinda want to be 'busy' until the one premiers to get out of it. I don't dislike it so much as it fits into the 'sports' category in my life- A Thing that people like but has nothing for me personally.

I think the sort of ease that makes the original trilogy “dumb fun” is underappreciated, actually—that illusion of ease is one of the hardest things for a movie to do. The economy of storytelling, skill in terms of editing and lighting (thanks, New Hollywood!), the close fit of the way everything unfolds plays to everyone’s strengths acting (while avoiding their weaknesses), and creativity in terms of things like set design, puppetry and model work are really impressive—it’s the fact that we can take it for granted that elevates the films to art. In fact, this description - a totally excellent description, which I forgot to upvote, so after finishing this reply I'll go back and upvote it - applies just as well to the Star Wars trilogy as it does to another masterpiece of well-crafted dumb fun, Fury Road. The original Star Wars movie is not nearly as confidently written or directed, and I do find that one to be pretty cheesy, but there is something to be said in favor of really, really well-made entertainment, and I think if you say "Guys, stop going crazy about Star Wars! It's only entertainment!" and then say "omg Fury Road amaaazzzzziingggggg!!!!1", you are mostly not talking about the artistic merits of Star Wars itself - you're talking about the fans, the fanbase, and the studios' cash-cow exploitation thereof.

All of the Bond movies are stupid and boring except for Moonraker, which features Richard Kiel in space with metal teeth and a sweet nerd girlfriend.

I find the Venture Brothers to be pleasant, even soothing in a "background noise" kinda way, but never really funny.

Venture Bros. is funny in a constant call-backs sort of way, kind of like Arrested Development.

*cracks knuckles* Here we go...
I don't care about Nathan Fielder or his stupid show.
I don't know who GWAR is and I don't care.
I have no incentive to catch up on most cable dramas.
Maybe it has something to do with being 33 years old, but I just can't get into those "Adventure time/Steven Universe" CN shows. I just feel like I've outgrown non-adult animated shows.
I love The Wire. I think it is one the best shows ever. I do NOT think less of a person if they have not seen it or have no desire to see it.
Speaking of The Wire, I think Season 2 is one of the best.
I know DS9 is the preferred Trek show of the commentariat, but I still prefer TNG for sentimental reasons.
More to come. Maybe.

As much as I love DS9 I can’t stand the “because it’s not TNG” line of praising it. Maybe it stems from years of defensiveness from various online communities holding up TNG over DS9, but by now there’s definitely ample critical recognition for DS9 to stand on its own merits.
And almost always when I rewatch a TNG episode it’s almost always better in some subtle way than the show’s current, somewhat crestfallen in nerdier circles, reputation, often in subtle ways that are pretty refreshing given how bombastic genre TV usually is now.

Yeah I think TNG and DS9 should be treated like two different beasts; DS9 is tightly woven scripts where everything is serving a purpose to the end (mostly), whereas TNG has a few ongoing plotlines the most of it was stand alone episodes often about the small moments. DS9 is a war show and how war affects people, whereas TNG is a show about diplomacy and at it's heart is about exploration and self improvement.
I love them both but I do have to say that TNG does have some clunkers of some episodes, especially in the earlier seasons, but I'm much more willing to forgive them because they were often trying to be experimental.
Also it's crazy to me that late era old Doctor Who was on at the same time as early TNG, yet TNG felt miles more modern.

Let's not fight about DS9 vs TNG, all that matters is we collectively loathe Voyager, like we're the borg! But not the shitty version of the Borg that showed up on Voyager TOO MANY DAMN TIMES. Also, please don't prole I've said this.
P.S. DS9 is clearly the best ST show.

I really dislike Nathan For You. I tend not to like cringe comedy even when it isn't reality based, but seeing real business owners (usually) being made to look ridiculous always feels mean spirited and shitty. The response whenever anybody raises that objection is always "but Nathan is the one who's the butt of the joke!" but that's such an intellectually dishonest argument when Fielder as the show's writer/star is always aware that he's playing a character and none of his subjects are. If you like the show fine, but don't pretend it's an any less exploitative (albeit more intelligent) variant of youtube prank videos and the like just to make yourself feel better.

AVC must be mostly city kids, which is not really surprising. Every time the site mentions Napoleon Dynamite, everyone in commentariat rails against the movie and recounts how the whole theater was laughing except for them.
I guess those commenters didn't grow up surrounded by old farmers, behind-the-times cultural trends, the FFA, and bums who peaked in high school. I laughed like hell with that movie; at the time I figured all the Atlanta kids sitting around me were just laughing at the hicks.

But I didn't grow up in the city so maybe I prove your point.

Right, so the commenters are decent enough not to think it's funny to mock the rubes, but neither do they get the reference frame that makes it funny.

Some of us don't have cable televisions...and there's no other cartoons...or sportsballs on...and American Ninja Warrior makes us feel bad about ourselves and what we've become...and it might be ok...and we live with girls who like that sort of thing...and I don't hate Grease...and... *shows self out, deletes TIF account*
