What friggin' demographic is going to watch that pile of crap? *meekly* "me?" Some of us don't have cable televisions...and there's no other cartoons...or sportsballs on...and American Ninja Warrior makes us feel bad about ourselves and what we've become...and it might be ok...and we live with girls who like that sort of thing...and I don't hate Grease...and... *shows self out, deletes TIF account* Don't gooooooooo!!

I watched Grease Live, actually. I turned it on to see what a trainwreck it was going to be and instead I was pleasantly surprised. I don't really care for the musical in general, but they did a lot of cool stuff with the camera work and staging, and I can't complain about the quality of the dancing.
Also, I keep getting invited to Venture Brothers threads on AVC After Dark and I don't know why. I don't even know what Venture Brothers is.

I agree with the earlier comments about Weird Al. I actually like the guy, but the fan-worship at the TOC can get kinda obnoxious. There's a kind of attitude of "he's the awesomest person ever and everyone here absolutely MUST like him" which is just crying for a backlash. I guess it's more of a 'hate the fandom' type thing.
Also, while I love MST3K more that anything, I'm sick to death of Pod People, Mitchell, and The Final Sacrifice due to the constant quoting. It's like a classic rock band where you're bored the overplayed 'hits' and prefer the deep cuts.

Assuming Bernie Sanders makes it to the Michigan primary (which I'm guessing he will), I plan to vote for him. That said, if he doesn't make it to the general election, I have no problem voting for Hillary Clinton.
It's starting to feel like a heresy, anyway...

WUT I definitely tried to keep going with regular commenting for a while under the theory that the best way to continue to keep the AVC comments a place JL-L likes is to comment like JL-L and try to exert my own little push on the tenor of the conversation (which is why I actually consciously chose to keep commenting after the redesign screwed everything up), but after my move back to the US I just found it hard to get back into the groove for various reasons and, beyond that, I felt like there was no point in trying to “make” the community into anything and now I mostly just comment on articles that I actually read (I KNOW RIGHT?). I know there’s still fun conversations and such, but if I refer to the AVC commentariat as “the unemployable, angry loners” I won’t be doing it ironically (you alcoholics are still a fine bunch, though).

To be fair, "I have invested a hell of a lot of time in making this community a nice place and in trying to sustain a tone of respectful and polite discourse." is an incredibly pompous thing to say.

It is also very much true in Scrawler’s case.

Hard to judge what's going on there as it's unclear where the conversation was had or what the context was.

MrsLangdonAlger It’s basically the culmination of a long sequence of hyperbolic, extended, and haranguing comments berating Scrawler for being insufficiently pro-Sanders/anti-Clinton. It’s particularly galling, especially since Scrawler’s one of the people who brought the AVC commentariat out of the wild west (maybe at the expense of some absurdism, but also at the expense of a lot of youtube-grade stuff), and it really makes what passed for trolling ca-2008 look harmless. That stuff was comparatively sophomoric, like someone looking up swear words in the dictionary. There’s a self-righteousness backing these up (same goes for Fatman’s), and frankly I find the righteous angry unemployable loners far more threatening. People (or, let’s face it, guys) cover their problems and insecurities up with progressive politics as a “respectable” way of taking out their issues on others. What’s really perverse is that this seems like an unintended outgrowth of the AVC comments becoming a place for, as they used to put it, reasonable discussions—one of the reasons I dislike the “one of the best places on the internet” talk that goes around is that it turns into license for people’s worse instincts, provided they dress them up a bit.

It's bizarre.

Somehow I keep missing all of this. The whole "people dressing up their problems with progressive-seeming politics and taking their inner pain out on others" is particularly disappointing here because I thought we were getting a bit better about that. Marginally. But, no, turns out we've just found a new thing to be horrible to others about.

Finally getting the pop culture news from 2002, I just now realized Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs and Monk's Captain Stottlemeyer were played by the same actor, Ted Levine.

To be fair, I didn't realize it until I read the Random Roles with him. Is it a bad thing that I only know Ted Levine from the American version of The Bridge and Shutter Island? In my defense, When I saw him in Shutter Island, I immediately realized "Holy shit, it's Ted Levine!" Also Ted Levine is definitely the best thing about Shutter Island and probably the best thing about the American version of The Bridge. I'm not sure that that's an AVC heresy, though.

I sure do miss Todd, and I miss his Girls reviews. He might have been a too-big apologist, but at least he knew how to write a review for a 30-minute comedy on time. It's 2016; what the hell is with Joshua Alston?

I've tried a couple of times but the guy is not going to get help on his own, and none of us are in a position to do anything about it. The guy is just wallowing in his own misery at this point.
