Teti is out as EIC per the latest Block & Tackle. Oh god. Who's replacing him? Roger Ailes. It'll be fine, don't worry.

From Teti’s Block & Tackle comments:
I do think, for all the complaining we do in this thread, that the writers are fundamentally on the same side as us.
And I’ll dissent on Supper Club—while the fast food articles might be obnoxious—I didn’t click on them, I don’t know—the “Amuse our Bouche” and the one newswire Pang I read by Pang felt more AVC-ish than a lot of recent, “on-topic” content—knowledgeable but accessible and good-humored. I think, in addition to going full blast on Wednesday, launching on a week where there wasn’t really any new feature content on Monday or Tuesday due to the holiday weekend didn’t help wrt perception, either.

Yeah, what Lemur said -- there's very little perception that there's a huge gap between the majority of writers and the readership/commentariat. Of course, you get a couple prickly assholes on both sides, but, by and large, they really want to create the kind of content they'd like to read themselves.

I hope Emeril Lagasse's 11 Questions wasn't the grand inspiration behind Supper Club. It's not Marah's fault that the guy didn't want to talk at all, but wow. At least they got something theoretically more interesting than a Filet-O-Fish FOC.
Speaking of which, that article has more comments than this week's edition of Modell's Binge and Purge, one of the AV Clubbiest columns ever. I think we can blame commenters just as much as corporate control at this point; at least we have real evidence of the former.

Teti is out as EIC per the latest Block & Tackle. Shit, this sucks. He really did seem to bring a genuine love for the commenting community to the job and seemed to make decisions with us in mind. Not looking forward to his Univision-appointed replacement.

And they still don't have a Newswire on Archer winning a fucking Emmy! Deadline had the story 2 days ago.

Obviously, comment numbers don't necessarily correlate to pageviews (you can see this all the time when the "most-read" function, which is probably at least somewhat accurate) will have some little commented upon GJI or Newswire in the top spot, because it's doing great on Facebook. But I would not be surprised by Food doing better than Music or Movies or even TV. One of the reasons culture sites and publications tend to struggle (and they all have!) is because culture sites and publications are read by a very small, select group of people, who tend to bristle when the topic of discussion is broadened in the slightest to hopefully include those who don't read these sorts of sites as diehards. Food, at the very least, is something everybody has to partake in to live, so it makes sense that it would do better than a throwback column.

Todd, I love ya, but I can't accept reading anything for the 'the very least' of its purposes as being better than an a 'throwback column' -- something that insinuates the Internet's favorite mode, nostalgia. Lest you mean a 'throwback' to whatever it is people think "the A.V. Club" used to be, in which case, sure. Why not.

It has always struck me as a very deliberate attempt to redo Murray's "Popless," which for me was a defining AVC feature before I worked there. (After I worked there, of course, all of the defining AVC features were created/written/curated by me.)

Aside: I would be incredibly comfortable with banning Disqus drive-bys on Mr Robot comments at this point. More than any other place on TOC right now.

The Bacon Critic comments have a truly appalling lack of David Cameron jokes, an error I am correcting.
