I guess my notifications don't count ... *sniffle* I didn't get any notifications for three days, then got them all at once last night. Better take it up with disqus. (Actually, better not. Word on the street is lay-offs.) Still, I got your notifications eventually ... you know, similar to having to wait a fortnight for something because of an insufficient address, and then chasing it up myself ... similar to that. (Apologies to anyone reading this and having to endure our in-jokes. Won't happen again.)

Platforms need upkeep and all, but are they running out of people to shovel coal under the notifications boiler? I'm not 100% sure what's going on - this is just what I've picked up from the AVCAD. Wild rumours were going round that stand-alone sites like theirs would also be for the chop if economies were being made, but that seems not to be the case.

All this disqus notification stuff happened to me last week but has caught up now. I figured it was more fuckery with my AVclub account.

As I get older, I try to adapt an attitude of being as mellow yellow as I can possibly be, but I feel a bit bummed out that this year, the AV Club did not post an article about the Best Songs of 2016. That's how I got most of music for the new year!

All the featured articles today are just top lists from the last two weeks. I wonder if they will even post the results of reader voting. Or the results of the vote for best AV Undercover, for that matter.

So checking the Newswire before work to see if there was any news of Carrie Fisher's death (just heard on Facebook), and found people had to resort to commenting on the "Eddie Vedder Christmas miracle" post as an ersatz RIP thread. It's happened before, of course, but just as I was about to sign off, the "SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER" graphic briefly occupied the board. Coincidental but emblematic.

The evolution of the AV Club house style from irreverent snark to semi-wokeness to outright fatalism has been a very strange one.

Not one person in particular, I was just struck by the line at the end of that Apprentice newswire comparing it to Pilgrims giving Native Americans pox blankets and concluding that everyone will be dead soon. I half expect Onion/AV Club to issue cyanide capsules to all its employees so their suffering will not be prolonged during the Trumpocalypse.

Every time someone has died since the election, I've felt genuinely thankful they won't live to see what happens next.

They blamed pox infeceted blanlets on the separartists? brb gotta look some stuff up I phrased it wrong; the exact quote was: "So watching the show try to welcome us back with a smiling face is a bit like watching the American Indians happily accepting the smallpox-infected blankets from European settlers—all we can think about is how no one’s got much longer to live." I'm not saying we should be pretending everything's just rosy, but people should be preparing to fight back instead of rolling over. The left has a lot of work to do, and it won't get done if we all just give up and accept our fates.

The Hughes-penned Newswire RE Lindsey Lohan's delusions of a Mean Girls sequel, from the headline down, was the most mean-spirited news article since the Nick Cave catastrophe.

The Hughes-penned Newswire RE Lindsey Lohan's delusions of a Mean Girls sequel, from the headline down, was the most mean-spirited news article since the Nick Cave catastrophe. it had no effect on me (after i found it EVENTUALLY--not just you, but come on, people, would it kill you to link?) but i did get treated to a lot of "aren't dead animals delicious?" talk, which i cheerfully scrolled past until i was inspired to look up an allegedly famous bible story that completely escaped memory after catechism, confirmation and parochial school--go figure-- and in looking for answers, found out how much st. mark ripped off the odyssey, so.. WORTH IT.

AVC putting up their review of A Series of Unfortunate events up earlier this week. Making me think it came out this weekend instead of next. Seriously, why post a review that early? People are just gonna forget about it before the show is even out. Also, kinda ruined my weekend. Thankfully I did just buy the entire series of Fringe.

@matt1 I wish they’d do that with film reviews for ones that get super small/festival releases and then wider ones later.

The Hughes-penned Newswire RE Lindsey Lohan's delusions of a Mean Girls sequel, from the headline down, was the most mean-spirited news article since the Nick Cave catastrophe. Oh boy. Do I read it and give up half-way through because it just seems like an overdose of mean, or do I avoid it and take your word for it....

Do I read it and give up half-way through because it just seems like an overdose of mean, or do I avoid it and take your word for it.... I wouldn't say it's an "overdose" but it really revolves around the notion of "LOL that Lindsey Lohan, she's super crazy, amirite?" and maintains a level of snark directed solely toward the woman and any possible mental illness, not anything specific she's done.

I wonder if they will even post the results of [end-of-year] reader voting. Or the results of the vote for best AV Undercover, for that matter. We're a week in to 2017 now, so the answer is "no" on both counts. I assume the means Undercover is cancelled forever: no 2016 winner, no call for a new song list, no new season. It's a shame to see yet another long-running feature disappear. That newswire contest where they gave away a chunk of the old round room certainly was an apt metaphor.
