I wonder if they will even post the results of [end-of-year] reader voting. Or the results of the vote for best AV Undercover, for that matter. We're a week in to 2017 now, so the answer is "no" on both counts. I assume the means Undercover is cancelled forever: no 2016 winner, no call for a new song list, no new season. It's a shame to see yet another long-running feature disappear. That newswire contest where they gave away a chunk of the old round room certainly was an apt metaphor. Er...

Er...Well how about that, and just after I wrote that too. But did they ever post the poll results? Not that I've seen. Interesting that the article has far more comments combined than the entirety of the last season's articles.

AVC promised reviews of Taboo from Emily Stephens in What's On Tonight, but they don't exist.

It started in the UK last weekend, to generally disobliging notices. He wrote it with his dad. His dad is named Chips Hardy.

The use of the phrase 'the most glorious sound in the audible spectrum' here is unconscionable.

Not gonna lie, the Chuck Tingle piece feels pretty close to laughing at someone's mental illness to me.

Not gonna lie, the Chuck Tingle piece feels pretty close to laughing at someone's mental illness to me. I've heard some less-than-flattering things about the author of that piece, so color me already jaded. But, yeah, mental illness "lol's" seem to be making more rounds from a lot of the freelancers these days.

That's how it reads to me - like he's very much in on the joke, and has decided to commit to this ridiculous persona in the AMA.

The article on Trent Reznor's recent comments on the state of music. It's like they started with snark, forced it to fight pit bulls and roosters for six months while feeding it nothing but red meat and steroids, and then wrote an article.

io9.gizmodo.com/nbcs-powerless-breaks-the-canon-with-a-made-up-wayne-co-1791211046I know this is for AVC, but io9 has been on a downward trend for the past two years IMO. And it is shit like this that is a part of it. Shitting over powerless which is a comedy(that hasn't even come out yet!) over a Bruce Wayne cousin that isnt canon. So the author whines. The cherry on top, the cousin was actually a comic character! Years ago an io9 writer would actually know that obscure character.

I'm hoping an obituary for William Peter Blatty is coming down the tubes very soon.

Did anyone catch the one on the Monroe article joking about all the "usual" commenters "finally" leaving (meaning those on the liberal-slant, but weirdly making point to mention Dik) and the comment section could finally be full of what I can only assume would be conservatives, Breitbarters, alt-righters, or whoever else?
I tried to go back and find it from reading it hours ago...maybe it was deleted?

I'll be honest, I feel like the AVC (and also, sadly, the Avocado) has been getting progressively more hostile towards women, but this was just a BLATANT example of it, and the self-congratulatory nature of a ton of the comments made me want to barf.

I haven't been as active on it as usual, but of all the congratulatory "yeah, right!"'ers and other commenters, I didn't recognize anyone. Was the article linked somewhere else, maybe?

It's an open comments system that nobody wants to/can moderate. It's only going to get worse.

Which probably makes me unqualified actually.

Which probably makes me unqualified actually. While I was there, we flirted several times with hiring a fulltime community manager just to read comments and get rid of trolls and so on. But that was under Phipps, who was more insistent that writers engage with the comments section than his successors, who have mostly held the opinion that comments should be ignored outside of rare occasions.

I can see the benefits of both. It's really nice when writers hang out with the commenters: it's part of what makes the place special and all my favorites, including yourself, are people who have engaged with the community. I do think that shouldn't necessarily include moderating the comments, though: that's an entire other job. I could see a community mod with only that as a job also being able to avoid issues of playing favorites: not moderating popular members for example, or having favorite issues. I say this with awareness that I have pet issues when I mod The Avocado, of course.
