Um.... I have.... two! A whole two! I get to wear them <10 days per year, and several of those are when I visit my family for the holidays.

When I lived in Texas for so long, I had two coats also and one was specifically for visiting my parents in Massachusetts. (I have a picture of myself in July in Massachusetts with a thick sweater on. Of course I was young and skinny then.)

I haven't seen a Wet Seal in years. A lot of those old mall stores have online-only shops now, and most are pretty cheap. I have a basically non-existent clothing budget, but the discount stores like Walmart have weird sizes that don't fit me at all. Walmart's "small" tops look like a big garbage bag on me. I fit better in junior sizes but I am 42 years old and don't want to look like I'm trying to be a kid. This is the reason why most of my clothes are 10-15 years old, or older. I don't know where to shop anymore.

I find a store, then they change the quality or cut of my favorite items and then I'm lost again. Ugh, Gap and Jcrew factory! Though I did get a great men's flannel shirt in clearance this weekend, and some dry clean only (grrr) skirts for work.
Smacks - if you live near a Nordstroms Rack you may want to check that store out and Forever 21.

Smacky, I would look at the better department stores and just shop during their sales - I've found some really good things at Macy's on sale that have definitely been a bargain considering how many times I wore them.

My brother in law texted me asking if I'd help him buy a suit. I feel really good about this. *straightens tie*

Tragically he doesn't want to spend more than $300, so it's going to be an uphill climb, plus he's tentative about buying off the internet. We're going to start at JC Penney, and then I'm going to try to convince him to get his measurements taken at Nordstrom and use them to buy a good suit off of eBay.

JC Penney is about the best you can hope for under $300, especially in the desolate wasteland that is Spokane's shopping landscape. I've gotten a couple of pieces there that actually fit quite nicely.

I need a new suit as well but I'm loathe to buy something just as my injury is clearing up and spring/summer arrives when I'm hoping to lose all the weight I put on while walking more than half a km was agony. A friend of mine did get some nice/hilariously lined suits made a while ago that I quite like and will probably hit up soon.
I have not before thought about it but I have so many coats (not surprising given our climate)
Coldest: 1. Deep cold North Face parka, burnt orange for coldest days 2. 15 y/o columbia triple layer (my old parka) that's not quite as warm as it once was but better for heavy layering if I'm going to be outside ages. 3. Shittier parka that's got a few campfire burn marks on it. Used for outdoor dirty work in winter, these days used mostly when I'm helping out at a scouts thing. 4. Camel heavy wool peacoat for dressier functions. I love this coat but rarely wear it because I take the bus to work in winter and some schmuck would get something on it.
Slightly less cold: 5. Izod single layer coat, what those of you on the west coast/southern midwest probably call a winter coat. Good to about -10C 6. Wool zip up 7. Quilted puffer coat (good for first/last days of cycling to work) 8. Heavy fleece hooded coat (generally goes camping in colder months)
Not so cold: 9. Marmot fancy raincoat, lightweight and breathable, used mainly for cycling though I did buy it for hiking as well. 10. Old fancy raincoat that I discovered last year has completely lost its waterproofing. Now really only good for bus days or as a windbreaker. 11. Old school stiff rubber raincoat 12. Old school wool sweater coat, generally wear this curling. 13. Old Navy Wool Zip Coat bought ages ago back when Old Navy made non-shitty outerwear after my jacket tore on a trip. Nice but impossible to layer under so not used much these days 14. fleece coat
Not all cold: 15. Light sweater/coat thing 16. Fleece Lined vest 17-37ish. So many windbreakers! Pretty much everything event wise I've volunteered for over the past 15 years has had a windbreaker/light fleece as part of the uniform. Some have been donated or trashed over the years and many are at my parents place but still so many.

So evidently the Kennedy-era Ivy League look was a big hit in Japan and continues to have a following—the adjective “trad” evidently comes to us via Japanese enthusiasm for, well, trad—and the photobook that launched it, Take Ivy, has been scanned and put online (quite a while ago, actually, but I’m only finding out about this stuff now).

Its kinda amazing how solid a lot of these looks still are today, I know fashion trends can be a bit cyclical but still!

Personally I'm doing my best to pretend I'm an east coast aristocrat today by wearing a blue OCBD, a gingham tie, bone chinos, and blue suede bucks.

My friend wears those. She's not the height of fashion though. I'm not crazy about those loud, large prints myself.

Are button-down collars bad, other than being inconvenient? Thank goodness I don't know people in real life who care much about fashion.
