You know what? I wish half-capes were still a thing. I wore one for a Halloween costume probably 13 years ago and still remember how enjoyable it was to swish the thing around. Yes, they serve no practical purpose but you feel so wonderfully devil-may-care.
I'm not quite crazy enough to advocate for the return of capes, since it's obvious how heavy they are and how many practical problems can result from their length vis a vis escalators, streetcar tracks, yappy dogs, etc.
But maybe we should make it so everyone can wear a cape for an entire day at least once in their life, perhaps on their 25th birthday. That way they'd be old enough to not be a jerk about having a cape but young enough to be able to jump from high places pretending to be Superman. As an alternative to a jacket I feel like Larry David pulled it off okay, actually:

So I know this might sound weird, but the next time I purchase a bathing suit, I think I might actually go for a 'burkini'. Women have been wearing bathing caps for ages for practical reasons and I think I'd enjoy water much more if I wasn't worried about stuff falling out. I'm thinking something like this, which is basically a modified wetsuit:

I'm thinking something like this, which is basically a modified wetsuit: I don't think it's so weird, because for some time now, I've wished you could buy old-timey 1920s ladies' swimsuits (well, you can get them on etsy if you pay an arm and a leg), which are close to the same thing, and for the same reason. Tired of concerning myself with what people are seeing.

It's becoming. I like these variations as well: I like the top one with the print. The others give me too much of a ninja vibe - and yes, Muslims make jokes about looking like a ninja too.

moimoi you're going to miss feeling the water on your skin. I know nothing about the fabrics involved, but I’d assume that burkini/1920s-style swimsuti ≠wetsuit

moimoi you're going to miss feeling the water on your skin. I know nothing about the fabrics involved, but I’d assume that burkini/1920s-style swimsuti ≠wetsuit no guys, bare skin, without fabric clinging to it. What about feeling the water flowing freely over and under your arms, shoulders, armpits, legs, and in between your thighs? You can just buy a regular sporty swimming costume, they're secure and practical, not low cut, "falling out" problem solved, without having to wear a pair of leggings (cropped or otherwise) + a longer tunic. [Adidas] (not a huge fan of either of these, posting them because they match!) If this is more about body/weight insecurities, which I understand completely, then there are other alternatives that don't constrict your thighs and aren't as heavy/long on top - also apart from that there are still plenty of different styles and designs out there for tops, bottoms, and one-pieces - I personally wouldn't want to give my money to a company that promotes the full burkini/islamic modesty culture. I just did a quick search and found this basic swim dress in a baby-doll mini dress style, hides the belly, positive review with helpful photos from a size US18 woman, here (I can't link directly to the review for some reason, but it's the first one listed ).

I agree, the water feels nice, but feeling it in those particular areas isn't a priority for me. Also, we're talking about how nice it would be to have the option to wear a different kind of swimsuit than has been readily available for decades. I, for one, am well aware that basic, run-of-the-mill one piece suits and swim dresses exist. I don't like them much. For lots of reasons. I just happen to think that a '20s style swimsuit is cute as hell and not more revealing than I feel comfortable with. I'd love to have one.

On the one hand it's annoying how much cooler this summer is than the last one (it's basically flipping between rain and sun every couple of days), but on the other hand I'm wearing my spring/fall clothing more than I usually would, and that's the best part of my wardrobe anyway.

It's been nothing but hot and extra hot here all summer. I can't wait for fall to wear my 3/4-length sleeves!

Yeah, I might miss water on my skin (then again, SHOWERS, BUBBLE BATHS, SPAS), but I won't miss sand in my crotch.

I got these boots which are lower than I've had in past but which I think I like enough to keep anyway.

The only slogan-top I would ever have use for. The model has no bags under her eyes though, false advertising!

@bec Your post doesn't appear (for me, at least). oops, it was a photograph of a model wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the words, THE BAGS UNDER MY EYES ARE PRADA - the PRADA being printed to look like an official logo. 100% cotton, so really worth wasting your money on.
