The Catholic church I bike past every day is advertising a "chili cook-off and jazz concert" this Saturday The one across the street from me last Saturday had some event at which some cover band was playing rock/pop hits of the 80s and 90s. Heard a lot of mediocre Bon Jovi covers.

A student driver car parked at a truckers bar and BBQ stand. I see these student drivers stickers are all over the place. Who are they for? There is no way all of them are on a car driven by a teenager, even a car shared by the parents. I have even seen one on a windowless white contractor van.

My understanding is that people buy them as a safety measure to ward off aggressive drivers. Like a "baby on board" sticker.

I suppose so but there is no way that is effective. An asshole isn't likely to stop being an asshole because they remember they care about teenagers. Insert Brian Regan YouTube clip about "caution: show horses".

Assholes aren't the only ones who cause accidents though, and if signage inspires cautious drivers to be even MORE cautious around you ... I mean, it's the price of a sticker.
I don't really think they accomplish anything either.

I recently almost rear-ended someone with a student-driver sticker on their bumper because they pulled out in front of me even though there was literally nobody behind me for another half-mile at least, waiting until the very last possible millisecond to make their decision. Oldest sixteen-year-old I ever saw in my life. Did you know they come with grey hair now?

No, I meant mediocre as compared to the originals. More mediocre than the orginals? Does. Not. Compute.

Just went out to grab something out of my car. The car parked next to mine was just sitting there with someone inside it (couldn't get a good look with the angle of the sun) blasting the absolute fuck out of Blondie's "Rapture."
Yeah, I sang along. You don't NOT sing along to "Rapture."

We put a "New Driver" one on the car that my son drives. It's mostly a way to let anyone behind him know that he is not going slowly to be a jerk, but because he's still getting comfortable driving.

On my way home from checking on my parents' house while they're on vacation: at a T-intersection, a very ordinary but nice-looking motorcycle ditched in the grass on the side of a busy two-lane thoroughfare with its rear brake light lit up, but the wheels were not spinning. The surrounding grass was undisturbed and there was no sign of an owner anywhere.

Did an overnight camp in the Mangatawhiri area of the Hunua ranges. Saw a few birds I hadn't yet seen in Aotearoa. Is it better than seeing birds in Florida? No. Heard a Kōkako. Didn't see one, though.

One of my neighbors threw out a copy of Prima's Doom II Official Strategy Guide, which I obviously took home. It is absolutely adorable for many reasons, not least of which that the maps in the book were clearly hand-assembled using MacPaint.

A construction crane lowering a porta-john onto the top of an under-construction building. In retrospect it seems obvious that this is something that would have to happen, but I guess it never crossed my mind before and now I can't stop thinking of the logistics around how and what point it's going to get removed

There is a pigeon which is either extremely dumb or extremely smart hanging out on the exterior stairs outside my door. Yesterday, I realized this pigeon has decided that the landing in between the second and third floors is the best place to make her nest. People are walking up and down these stairs all the time. These are the closest stairs to the parking lot. Hilariously, absolutely no resident has disturbed this pigeon. And - truly remarkably - the DOGS that people bring up and down the stairs haven't done anything either. I haven't heard a bark or even a growl all weekend. And my front window has been open. On the one hand, it is amusing to see a pigeon nesting right next to where people are walking all the time. On the other hand, pigeons are annoying and gross, and I don't want MORE of them. But apparently we have to wait a month before this nest can be removed? I somehow cannot imagine this pigeon being left undisturbed by the residents for an entire month.
Edited to add: As in, I have to imagine that residents have already left messages for the office to have this nest removed/relocated. It isn't safe because there are many, many, many DOGS in this complex. Not to mention kids who run up and down these stairs all the time.

A Tesla Cybertruck. On the highway right next to me.
Pictures don't do justice how ugly these things are. Also kinda small. Bigger than my Sonata certainly, but dwarfed by something like an F-150.
