I'm surprised Baylor got left out. Yea they haven't played anyone super strong but hell they've blown every opponent out of the water also fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck you committee. Thanks for making life around me even MORE annoying! I wonder if they would have been higher if Seth Russell hadn't gotten hurt.

As I said last week, I was at Disney World this weekend so I missed most of these games.
West Virginia @ TCU Trevone Boykin had 388 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 88 yards. Even West Virginia coach Dana Holgorson gave him a high five after one of his plays. Horned Frogs win on Thursday night 40-10.
Clemson @ North Carolina State Jacoby Brissett played a fantastic game. He had 254 yards and three touchdowns and NC State's running game racked up 135 yards, but it wasn't enough. Once again, Clemson put on the Deshaun Watson show, throwing for 383 yards and five touchdowns, and rushing for a sixth. South Carolina kept it tight, but in the end Clemson wins out 56-41.
Syracuse @ Florida State Although he passed the concussion protocols, Seminole quarterback Everett Golson joined injured running back Dalvin Cook on the bench. Backup Sean Maguire threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns while Jacques Patrick ran for 162 yards and three more, lifting Florida State over Syracuse 45-21.
Stanford @ Washington State I managed to watch the end of this game. It was fairly tight. Washington State's Luke Falk threw 354 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Stanford kept it on the ground with quarterback Kevin Hogan rushing for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Christian McCaffrey ran for 107, but it game down to the last few minutes of the game. Erik Powell missed a 43 yard field goal as time expired and the Cardinal escaped 30-28.
Notre Dame @ Temple DeShone Kizer threw for 299 yards and a touchdown and ran for 143 yards and two more as the Irish dashed the Owl's hopes for going undefeated and making a potential splash in the college football playoffs. 24-20
Ole Miss @ Auburn Chad Kelly threw for 381 yards including a fourth quarter touchdown pass to Laquon Treadwell to seal the game 27-19 over the Tigers.
South Carolina @ Texas A&M The Gamecock quarterback Perry Orth threw two interceptions as the Aggies win a close 35-28 game.
Florida @ Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Faton Bauta threw four interceptions as the Gators manhandled Georgia 27-3.
Miami @ Duke For the oddest finish this week, the Blue Devils kicked a squib kick to Miami with six seconds left, after a series of laterals, eight of them, the Hurricanes took it into the end zone. There was a flag on the play, but it was for a block that they later reviewed to be legal. However the replay showed that one of the Miami players was down before pitching the ball. As such it was not called and even after nine minutes of reviewing the play and the touchdown stood, costing Duke the game. As a result the ACC suspended the entire officiating crew. https:// youtu.be/3GgEtjQsaN4
This week in wacky trophies: Michigan held off Minnesota in a goal line stand as time expired to win the Little Brown Jug 29-26.
Elsewhere around the league: Virginia tech coach Frank Beamer announced his retirement at the end of this season, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett suspended for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Iowa beat Maryland 31-15, Oregon bears Arizona State 61-55 in three overtime periods, USC squeaked by California 27-21. Norm Chow was fired as Hawaii's football coach Sunday, a day after the Rainbow Warriors dropped to 2-7 with a 58-7 home loss to Air Force.
In the polls: The top 20 teams in the AP polls stayed there with minor fluctuations. The College Football playoff committee announced their first poll this year: Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, and Alabama. My personal choices don't vary much: Ohio State, Baylor, Clemson, and LSU.
Who needs a coach, or teams whose head coach has been fired or has retired this year: USC, South Carolina, Miami, Maryland, Illinois, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Hawaii
Next week: I'll actually be home for most of these games, so I should have a better column next week. Baylor @ Kansas State, Mississippi State @ Missouri, Michigan State at Nebraska, Penn State @ Northwestern, Florida State @ Clemson, Notre Dame @ Pitt, Arizona @ USC, LSU @ Alabama, Arkansas @ Ole Miss, South Carolina @ Tennessee, Auburn @ Texas A&M, Kentucky @ Georgia, Kansas @ Texas, UCLA @ Oregon State, and Colorado and Wyoming play for the Bronze Boot.

In coaching carousal news, Norm Chow is out at Hawaii, and Frank Beamer announced his retirement at the end of the season at Virginia Tech. I'm curious if anyone at VA Tech has a shot at an internal promotion. I know they've been down a few years now, but that's still a hell of a successful run to move on from completely.

The situation at Mizzou, which, if people aren't aware, is my alma mater...wow.
For starters, I'm guessing the athletic department is deeply regretting calling this weekend's game against BYU (assuming there is a game this weekend against BYU) the Whiteout Game (which, given our color are black and gold, makes no sense to me to begin with).
Living 550 miles away from Columbia these days, I have no first-hand knowledge of the current mood of the campus. However, I do believe the following:
1. There was a lot more going on than the three incidents widely reported in the news. The three we heard about got so much publicity because the first one happened to a prominent African-American student, the second happened to a large group of students, and the third was just disgusting. I find it hard to believe that the one victim of a racial slur on campus just happened to be the student body president.
2. The reason the protesters are so mad is not that President Wolfe was unable to prevent these individual incidents from happening, but that there has been a decline in racial tolerance under his administration, that allows more of these incidents to happen. The protesters charge that he has ignored the situation too long and the efforts offered now are too little, too late.
3. It's pretty easy to see white privilege and outright racism in comments about the stories, especially in regards to the football team. There's lots of calling the protesters "terrorists" and a lot of people thinking that the football scholarship means that the players should just shut up and play.
I don't know what, if anything, President Wolfe could have done to keep the racial situation from sliding the way it has, so I can't say for certain if he deserves to lose his job, though what's come to light about his response over the last month doesn't exactly paint a flattering picture of him. But I do applaud the football team for taking a stand, one that could potentially cost them the rest of the season. As a fan, I hope the game against BYU goes on as scheduled on Saturday. But, if the game has to be forfeited in the name of improving race relations on campus, I will be fine with that sacrifice. I hope I'd feel the same if this season was going better.

Yea, it will be fascinating to see how this plays out. Could you construct a story that hit more hot buttons than this (racial tensions, college athletes vs. profiting campuses, conservatives vs. college campus 'political correctness'). The whole thing is about as 2015 as you can get.
I suspect that like so many black athletes taking a social stand, history will only continue to be kinder to these young men as time goes on, not that that will make the present any easier. I also think, from what I've seen at least, that in public Pinkel is handling a no-win situation about as well as he can.
I think the one criticism that is maybe a fair, if mean-spirited point, and you touched on it as well: Does the team still feel compelled to do this if they are having another good season and contending in the SEC East? You'd like to think so, but it would surely make the decision harder. That being said, I doubt these guys are dummies, they knew full well going into it that they'd risk just having their scholarships pulled when they did this. I have little patience for the 'shut up and play' crowd.

Mizzou President Tim Wolfe is out. I think nothing could happen until he stepped down, and I applaud him for doing so fairly quickly and not dragging this out for days on end. I have no idea what percentage of the blame for what's happened rests on his shoulders, but his response was very inadequate. Hopefully, the kid on a hunger strike will get to the hospital and get better now, the football team will take the practice field, and the campus can begin moving forward...and hopefully, this does not turn out to be an empty gesture that changes nothing.

Interesting Mizzou related article - it appears a professor got a biiiiiiit caught up in the momentum of the protest and tried to kick a student journalist out of, uh, campus? Fortunately this is a minor event and the protest has achieved its main goal, but this is the kind of stuff that can cause the media to shift narratives if they felt like it, as you can tell by the tone of the article. Something for future protesters to keep in mind. Mizzou professor needs to be fired; students need First Amendment lessons
Also - OSU is 9-0 after playing almost exactly to the level of their competition every previous week and suddenly playing lights out against TCU. This team could win the national championship and I still wouldn't know exactly what to think about them.

Highly ranked, national title contending, but still somewhat doubted Oklahoma State making a road trip to Ames. A Cyclones team in the midst of a mediocre season, needing the big upset to keep hopes of a bowl game alive. I feel like I've seen this movie before...

On the more serious note: PA Noire was just talking about this in the shoutbox this morning. The bio makes this professor sound like more of an idiot than she already did, but at least it doesn't sound like she's actually part of the journalism school faculty, like I was originally hearing. Also nice to see the update that they are trying to quickly learn their lesson about not undermining their good cause by acting like morons.

Baylor @ Kansas State Backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham stepped up and threw for 419 yards and three touchdowns. Shock Linwood had 72 yards. Kansas State made a game of it. Joe Hubener threw for 151 yards and a touchdown with a additional 153 yards and two rushing touchdowns, and was picked off. The Bears survived 31-24
Mississippi State @ Missouri Dak Prescott had 303 yards and four touchdowns Friday night. Missouri has had it rough lately. Quarterback Drew Lock was picked off twice and Russell Hansbrough's 14-yard run late in the first half gave Missouri its first touchdown in four games The Bulldogs win 31-13.
Michigan State at Nebraska Connor Cook threw for 335 yards and four touchdowns, but it wasn't enough Nebraska's Tommy Armstrong dove 91 yards in the final minute, throwing a touchdown pass to Brandon Reilly, who had stepped out of bounds, but returned to the field of play. The replay ruled him eligible because it was determined that he was forced out of bounds, enabling Nebraska to beat the Spartans by one point. 39-38
Penn State @ Northwestern Christian Hackenberg continues to look impressive even when he loses, throwing for 210 yards. Northwestern's kicker Jack Mitchell, who had earlier missed an extra point and two field goals, but a 35 yard field goal with 9 seconds left, winning 23-21
Florida State @ Clemson Fifteen seconds into the game, Florida State's Dalvin Cook ran 75 yards for a touchdown, and the Noles managed to lead at halftime, but then Clemson's defense, lead by Ben Boulware figured things out and stopped Cook and the offense on several crucial third and fourth down plays. The Seminole offense also made crucial errors with several false starts and delay of game penalties. Clemson wins the division 23-13.
Notre Dame @ Pitt DeShone Kiser continues to look impressive, throwing 262 yards and five touchdowns, and while Nathan Peterman threw for 223, the Irish came out on top 42-30
LSU @ Alabama The first quarter of the game was all defense, but Alabama started to pull away and while Jake Coker struggled early, missing rather easy completions, he threw for 184 yards. In the battle of running backs, Alabama's Derrick Henry ran for 210 yards and three touchdowns, while LSU's Leonard Fournette was held to only 31 yards. Alabama pulled away in the second half to win 30-16.
I don't think Vern Lunquist's neck has been seen for a very long time
Arkansas @ Ole Miss Bradon Allen threw for 442 yards and six touchdowns, tying the game and going to overtime. After scoring a touchdown the Razorbacks went for two, and were stopped, but a facemask penalty gave them another chance. Arkansas won 53-52. The play of the week:https://youtu.be/bbyEGY72V6IΒ Dude threw that like he was Kareem.
Auburn @ Texas A&M Jeremy Johnson threw for 132 yards and Jovon Robinson ran for 159 as the Tigers beat the Aggies 26-10
TCU @ Oklahoma State Although Trevone Boykin threw for 445 yards, he also threw for 4 interceptions, while Mason Rudolph passed for 352 yards and five touchdowns. Oklahoma State remains unbeaten and TCU receives their first loss as the Big 12 begins the meat of their schedule. Cowboys 49-29
UCLA @ Oregon State Josh Rosen threw for 333 yards and 2 touchdowns as UCLA shut out Oregon State 41-0.
Elsewhere in the league: Navy beats Memphis 45-20, Oklahoma over Iowa State 52-16, Michigan beat Rutgers 49-16, Florida squeaks by Vanderbilt 9-7, Iowa beats Indiana 35-27. J.Y. Barrett will return as Ohio State's starter.
This week in wacky trophies: Colorado State beat Wyoming 26-7 for the Bronze Boot.
In the polls: In the AP poll, Clemson jumped to the top spot and Alabama rose to number 3, Oklahoma State shot up to 5, Iowa and Stanford also rose. TCU, Michigan State and Florida State all dropped, while Navy breaks the top 25. The Selection Committee chose Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. For me, my picks are the same but replacing Oklahoma State in the fourth spot.
Who needs a coach, or teams whose head coach has been fired or has retired this year: USC, South Carolina, Miami, Maryland, Illinois, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Hawaii
Next week: Virginia Tech @ Georgia Tech, Georgia @ Auburn, Florida @ South Carolina, Ohio State @ Illinois, NC State @ Florida State, Clemson @ Syracuse, Alabama @ Mississippi State, Oklahoma State @ Iowa State, Memphis @ Houston, Arkansas @ LSU, Oregon @ Stanford, Oklahoma @ Baylor, Minnesota @ Iowa

Tom Herman has apparently become the clear front runner for the SC gig I don't know what to think of Herman. His gig as the OC here at Iowa State seemed very underwhelming at the time, but he's obviously done well for himself at Ohio State and Houston since then (and things really went to shit with our offense after he left), so who knows.

Virginia Tech @ Georgia Tech Outgoing coach Frank Beamer looked continuously upset at his players as they were trailing 14 points at one point, but in the end his Hokies won out with Travon McMillian rushing for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Virginia Tech wins 23-21
Georgia @ Auburn It came down to a fourth quarter 53 yard punt return by Isaiah McKenzie to lift the Bulldogs over the Tigers 30-13
Florida @ South Carolina Both Florida quarterback Treon Harris and Perry Orth threw a touchdown and two interceptions, but Florida's Kelvin Taylor ran for 105 yards as Florida beats South Carolina 24-14
NC State @ Florida State The Wolfpack lead 17-7 in the first quarter, but the Noles tied it up at the half and kept NC State off the board for the rest of the game. Dalvin Cook rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns, while Sean Maguire threw for 231 yards and two more and earning the starting job after reliving Everett Golson and leading the comeback 34-17
Clemson @ Syracuse Deshaun Watson had a another stunning game, throwing for 360 yards and two touchdowns and running for 105 yards and another touchdown, The Tigers scored twice in the first two minutes of the game, setting the tone for the rest of the day, winning 37-27.
Alabama @ Mississippi State Dak Prescott threw for 300 yards against the Tide, but it wasn't enough. Derrick Henry lead the Alabama offense with 204 yards and two touchdowns and Cyrus Jones returned a 69 yard punt for a touchdown as Alabama beats Mississippi State 31-6.
Oklahoma State @ Iowa State Mason Rudoloph thrwe for 327 yards and a touchdown, but Iowa State didn't make it easy for them. The Cowboys scored 14 points in the fourth quarter including the game winning touchdown with only three minutes left to play in the game. Oklahoma State survives 35-31.
Memphis @ Houston This was a tight one. Memphis's Paxton Lynch threw for 278 yards and Houston's Kyle Postma threw for 236. Postma came in for injured Greg Ward Jr., and rallied Houston from a 20-point deficit to win 35-34
Oregon @ Stanford Usually this is when Stanford spoils Oregon's season, but not this time. The favored Stanford Cardinal had quarterback Kevin Hogan throw for 304 yards and two touchdowns with Christian MCaffrey adding another with 147 yards. But it was a stop on a two point conversion with ten seconds left in the game that sealed Stanford's fate, losing to the Ducks 38-36.
Oklahoma @ Baylor It was a quarterback's game. Baylor's Jarrett Stidham put up 257 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield threw for 270 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The Sooners win out, 44-34.
Minnesota @ Iowa Minnesota put of a fight. Quarterback Mitch Leidner threw for 259 yards and a touchdown, but the Hawkeyes LeShun Daniels rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns to lead Iowa to beat Minnesota 40-35.
This week in wacky trophies: Ohio State @ Illinois play for the Illiback Trophy which is a Wooden turtle, which used to be a live turtle until it died. Ezekiel Elliot lead the charge with 181 yards and two touchdowns as the Buckeyes win 28-3.
Also this week in wacky trophies: Arkansas @ LSU Leonard Fournette was held to 91 yards as Arkansas beat LSU 31-14 for the Golden Boot, which looks like the two states mashed together.
Elsewhere around the league: Notre Dame beats Wake Forest 28-7, Arizona knocks off Utah 37-30, Michigan State beat Maryland 24-7, Michigan pulls out a win in double overtime over Indiana 48-41. South Florida wins decisively over Temple 44-23, and North Carolina beats Miami 59-21
In the polls: In the AP polls, the top three stayed the course, while Baylor fell to #10. LSU, Stanford and Utah fell out of the top ten while Oklahoma, Florida and Michigan State moved up. The playoff committee chose the same four: Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. My four are Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama and Oklahoma.
Who needs a coach, or teams whose head coach has been fired or has retired this year: USC, South Carolina, Miami, Maryland, Illinois, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Hawaii and now Missouri as Gary Pinkell announced his retirement
Next week: Memphis @ Temple, Purdue @ Iowa, Michigan @ Penn State, Georgia Tech @ Miami, LSU @ Ole Miss, Wake Forest @ Clemson, USC @ Oregon, UCLA @ Utah, Northwestern @ Wisconsin, Michigan State @ Ohio State, Boston College @ Notre Dame, Baylor @ Oklahoma State, TCU @ Oklahoma, and California @ Stanford
