I mean it's basically you guys and Georgia in the east this year, right? Mizzou seems like they would be down compared to last year. Yea and i wouldn't be surprised if muschamp didn't make it through the season. Ut could potentially surprise but incredibly unlikely It's Vandy's year!!!

What's everybody's plans for opening weekend tailgates? Iowa State got stuck with an 11AM kick, so I think we're doing a steak and eggs breakfast tailgate. ugh i keep seeing posts from my friends tailgating right now im stuck at stupid work! DH, your avatar looks like an old scratch-n-sniff sticker from the '80s. I think it would smell like licorice, but I could be wrong. Maybe if I get an A on my spelling test I will get one.

I wouldn't mind seeing you guys win the SEC this year, instead of perpetually being the team that might win the SEC. I would quite enjoy the myself! Maybe next year?

I would quite enjoy the myself! Maybe next year? I mean....I'm super sad but its not over yet. The seasons just that much more difficult. we pretty much cant lose to anothersec team (which'll be tough with UGA and Auburn on our schedules). I have no idea what was up with our defense but something has to be done.

Man, an all Carolina conference would be weirdly compelling. South Carolina and Clemson as the headliners. Duke on the upswing, UNC coming out of their down years. ECU and NC State would probably make interesting games for someone. Appalachian State has proven upset potential. Wake Forest would be a team that played games.

As a Mizzou...excuse me, defending SEC East champion Mizzou fan, where reports of our death have been greatly exaggerated, I quite enjoyed last night's game. While I'm not going to be bold enough to predict another division championship, I do think we're going to be a lot better than most people give us credit for.

Hey we're back for another season! And it started off with more like a whimper than a bang. Although the season got shook up a bit early with the defeat of a Top Ten team. It looks like Texas A&M is set to survive the post-Manziel era with a sound defeat over SC. Clooney is sorely missed.
There were some expected blow outs. Oregon, Oklahoma, Stanford, Auburn and Baylor all trounced their opponents, but none of them were expected to have a tough time.
The most interesting game this weekend was Georgia vs Clemson. Clemson is clearly missing Tajh Boyd and his receiving core of Sammy Watkins and Martavis Bryant, but let's face it: this game was all about Todd Gurley. If he can keep healthy, the Heisman is his to lose. And as you can see they leapt in the polls to #6
I will say the LSU/Wisconsin game was also pretty darn good.
What amazed me was how many good teams struggled this weekend. Alabama seems to have a hard time replacing A.J. McCarron (who had been labeled a game manager in the past, but that's not a bad thing.) Ohio State is missing their quarterback Braxton Miller and it shows. They should have trounced Navy, but Navy held on for he first. UCLA's game was also too close. You can tell they way the polls played out- the number one votes were more evenly distributed and no one except Georgia made any real movement.
As for my Noles, the defending National Champions (I'm not going to get sick of saying that anytime soon) never trailed in their game, but they looked rough. Jameis Wintson seemed to be out of step with his receiving team, which is why WR Jesus Wilson is suddenly not suspended anymore. Hmmm... We also lost 11 first place votes, but managed to stay at #1
I was glad to see Penn State start their season with a win. I'm glad to see they're rebuilding.
Oh and Miami lost... that's always fun

Nice to come back from Europe and see Georgia having some early success, but now we've got this bye week and I want to see some action. Watching Stanford eke out totally blow it hard against USC isn't enough for me, I'm ready to see Spurrier get ripped.
Don't go hyping UGA too much though, it will just get in the head and screw us again. Even with a fairly easy schedule like ours this year, we need to concentrate on beating opponents and not pay attention to the rankings, we'll be fine.

As a USC fan, I've never seen a worse team win a game against a good opponent. Stanford was better in ever aspect of the game. They just didn't score more points before time ran out.

So I have to ask you what you thought of that whole Sarkisian/Haden thing? Not just that someone texted Haden, which is against the rules, but that he actually ran down there. Like the AD was going to change anyone's opinion!

When is Bill Snyder going to retire again? I am tired of having close, heartbreaking losses to K-State every damn year.

Well it was a bad weekend for the increasingly poorly named Big Ten. Michigan was humiliated by Notre Dame. Clearly they are no longer the dominant powerhouse that they once were and they haven't been for a while. Ohio State lost at home to a very good Virginia Tech. We can speculate as much as we want if Braxton Miller, and we'll never know because he's never healthy. And then the big game: Oregon vs. Michigan State. Sparty seemed to come back in the second quarter, but then Oregon came back and crushed them. Mariotta is damn good. Nebraska deserved to lose their game, but pulled it out in the last minute. The only Big Ten team who did any good was...
That's right, my Penn State Nittany Lions. Hackenberg is during out to be a fine quarterback, and it sucks that he's not going to get a postseason as PSU is still ineligible for bowls this year. I can't imagine he won't declare for the draft after this season.
So if you want to look at a conference that had a pretty good week, how about the ACC? The won all of their games with the exception of when they played each other. I'm a little disappointed in Florida State's performance against Citadel. We couldn't seem to find the end zone in the second half, although I am disturbed to hear the Citadel's OL Victor Hill admitting to chop blocking, which lead to three injured Seminoles. I'm sorry, but that's not sportsmanship, it really isn't. (although I will say that based on what I have seen so far FSU is not the number one team in the country right now)
Speaking of bad sportsmanship, what the hell was going on with Sarkisian and AD Pat Haden? What was he doing on the field addressing the refs? And he's on the Playoff Committee? The game itself was interesting. USC didn't win that game as much as Stanford lost it.
The rest of the big teams played "cupcake" teams. Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma Auburn and Baylor all played teams that were easily dominated. Clemson played with a chip on it's shoulder as well.
So lets look at next week... um...
Okay, so, not a lot of strong matchups with the exception of Georgia vs. South Carolina. That being said: USC/BC, UCLA/Texas, Rutgers/PSU, Kentucky/Florida, and Tennessee/Oklahoma may be interesting

It's a strange time when Kentucky/Florida is interesting. Still, I'm glad they haven't fired Will Muschamp (yet).

Like the AD was going to change anyone's opinion! I imagine that Mark Cuban was watching at home saying, "Wow...slow down there. Don't go nuts." Also weird was how Haden tried to play it off as no big deal later on. Like he was just some guy who happened to be on the sideline for no special reason.

So the Penn State post-season ban is lifted effective immediately. It's like the NCAA was worried that the NFL was going to steal it's throne as the king of PR bungling.

I thought maybe they would lift in next year, but I was surprised that they lifted it for this season. Of course it's unfair for the current team to be punished for past crimes and everyone who was involved are dead/fired/incarcerated, but I think this is going to be a very unpopular decision

All those kids had the opportunity to transfer without restrictions or commit to a different school. Everybody involved with Penn State knew what they were signing on for.
And what did they all know? That Penn State football, despite all the lip service from the NCAA (and fans, and media, etc.), was too big an institution to really be kept down by this scandal. Just a terrible message to send, imo.

Now keep in mind, the NCAA is not going to give them the $60M back, nor restore the vacated wins, so it's not like they got off with a slap on the wrist

I have no idea how Penn State could stand that kind of pain. The point is that they punished the guilty parties and not the current team. They were severely punished, and people lost their jobs, but Penn State did follow the NCAAs recommendations and did everything that was asked of them, but I am surprised that the ban was lifted immediately and not for next year.
I did say it was going to be divisive.

I'm perfectly fine with the ban being lifted, since I don't think the ban should have been imposed in the first place. Don't get me wrong, what happened was sick and evil, and the people who got convicted, from the person who did it to those who covered up what he did, richly deserve their punishments. But here's the thing--it was so sick and evil that it completely transcended the NCAA. They had no rules to deal with anything like what happened, nor should they. The NCAA should have agreed it was a legal matter and acknowledge that the horror went well beyond what they were set up to deal with. How's that for divisive?

Fuck the NCAA, they suspended Dez Bryant till the year was up just for talking to Deion Sanders. Then they let USC stew in all their violations and denied any appeals all through their punishment, because they gave Reggie Bush a car(big fucking whoop, like no other school has done that). Yet with Penn State where a punishment is completely deserved and for something that is truly horrible? Ehhh, fuck it.
