Fuck the NCAA, they suspended Dez Bryant till the year was up just for talking to Deion Sanders. Then they let USC stew in all their violations and denied any appeals all through their punishment, because they gave Reggie Bush a car(big fucking whoop, like no other school has done that). Yet with Penn State where a punishment is completely deserved and for something that is truly horrible? Ehhh, fuck it. Another thing was pointed out was that the crimes didn't actually fall under the NCAA's jurisdiction. Everything I'm reading is that Penn State has complied with everything that the NCAA has asked for and is still going to be monitored.
On the other hand, people are worried it will set a precedent. Commit a violation, but then get off for good behavior afterwards. Of course that worked for both Miami and Ohio State.

Yeah, Bush and Carroll both got to laugh all the way to the NFL. When the going gets tough, the tough get the hell out of Dodge.

I'm perfectly fine with the ban being lifted, since I don't think the ban should have been imposed in the first place. Don't get me wrong, what happened was sick and evil, and the people who got convicted, from the person who did it to those who covered up what he did, richly deserve their punishments. But here's the thing--it was so sick and evil that it completely transcended the NCAA. They had no rules to deal with anything like what happened, nor should they. The NCAA should have agreed it was a legal matter and acknowledge that the horror went well beyond what they were set up to deal with. How's that for divisive? You're not alone in your opinion. A lot of people say that the NCAA exists to monitor their own rules, not criminal behavior.

Well my adopted state is all gearing up for a big tickle fight down in Iowa City this weekend. My beloved Cyclones are 0-2, having managed the rare combo of getting blown out by an FCS and losing to a Top 20 in the last minute of the game. Those damn Hawkeyes are 2-0 after a pair of embarrassingly close games with the likes of Northern Iowa and Ball State. 2:30 on ESPN guys! I'm sure you'll all be tuning in.

I vehemently disagree with this. I think the NCAA should punish this even if it is criminal behavior and not their own rules. There is a huge underlying problem with high school and college football that important people to a team break the law they will get out of it because they need to be there for the big game. Football is taken more seriously than the actual law. I have read many stories on how players get away with raping women, because of who they are. Yes, what happened at penn state was so sick and evil it should transcend the NCAA and football, but to so many people it is the opposite, football transcends it. Just look at all the Penn State alumni who still go to bat for Paterno, who hate Mike McQueary for being "a snitch". Did Sandusky get his criminal due? Yes. But the NCAA should still punish Penn State and make an example that this isn't acceptable. That covering up will be worse than if they just cooperated from the start. If these people care so much more about wins and making the big bowl game at the end of the year, then the NCAA should step in and make a punishment about that as well. But even then at the end of the day the NCAA doesn't really care. They only make these big gestures so they can come off seeming like they are moral instead of corrupt. They punish teams who pay players because they want to keep up the notion they are not a business, so people look the other way and don't acknowledge how the NCAA profits off the athletes. Funny how the Penn State postseason ban came at a time when they are leading the Big 10 and seem right now as the only hope for one of the biggest conferences in football to make the playoffs right now.

That second holding call on UGA, bringing back the touchdown, suuuuuuure was crap.
At least CBS is finally broadcasting games in widescreen instead of just taping in widescreen and broadcasting a cut-off square.
Oh my gosh Va Tech, I would have watched if I had thought that was going to happen.

I have returned from my shift at the museum. There is 3:52 left in the 3rd quarter of the Georgia-SouthCarolina game. If Georgia wins, I blame myself.
Goo DoubleHawks!
I also realize that wishing all SEC teams to have three losses is irrelevant in this playoff world.

I can't imagine any 3-loss team being in the top 4 at the end of the season, even if it is the champion of the SEC. That said, when the playoff grows to 16 teams (and it eventually will), there's a pretty decent chance we might have a 3 or even 4-loss national champion at some point.

Remember how I said it was going to be a slow week? Yeah not so much...
I missed the first part of the game, but when I sat down to lunch I saw that East Carolina was leading Virginia Tech. I was shocked. The same VT that beat Ohio State? I watched them throw two interceptions just in the time it took to eat a few slices. VT tried to make a comeback but it was too little too late. And this was the team that looked the strongest in the ACC. Yikes.
I didn't think the Georgia/South Carolina game was going to be very close, and I certainly didn't see the Gamecocks winning. (I guess that's why they play the games, huh?) But Gurly still looked good, but he can't be everything.
I didn't see Boston College upsetting USC, probably because I didn't see BC completely shutting down USC's running game
Penn State played their first game without sanctions and Rutgers jumped out to an early lead. The Lions then figured out how to score points and won a close game in the fourth quarter.
Let's see... Florida beat Kentucky in triple Overtime. Ohio State took their frustrations out on Kent State. Michigan finally got a win. Virginia upset Louisville, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Oregon, Alabama, LSU and UCLA all won their games, with Texas giving UCLA a little trouble
Next week we finally see if FSU is worthy of their ranking as they actually take on a team that could beat them. The Noles have been hemmoraging number one votes and they have to put up good numbers against Clemson in order to keep the voters approval
The Thursday Night game looks good. Auburn Vs Kansas State. Alabama plays Florida and we'll see how that turns out for Florida. And that's about it for notable match ups, but hey I said that last week!

That said, when the playoff grows to 16 teams (and it eventually will), there's a pretty decent chance we might have a 3 or even 4-loss national champion at some point. But what if Texas loses an early conference game and then wins all the rest of their games and takes the conference? That would mean they would be a 3-loss conference champ, likely well into the top 10, and could easily be one of the four strongest conference champions. Going forward, if the conference title is what really matters in terms of making the playoffs, there's not much of a drawback to scheduling tough out-of-conference games. A team that loses two out of conference and one in-conference could easily make the playoffs.

As a general college football fan, it would be awesome if they acted a little like the MBB committee and really rewarded teams for scheduling hard out of conference.

Well, it really wasn't that bad, unless you were investigated for sexual assault last year, then it looks bad. But now he's suspended for the whole game. I really want to punch Paul Feinbaum in the face. Him and his SEC bias.

Okay before I even begin I want to address the thing about Jameis Winston. First of all as an FSU fan, yes I want him to play. For those of you who don't know, Jameis got in trouble again for standing on a table in the student union and yelling "Fuck her in the pussy," which, while instructional, is not something you want your Heisman-trophy winning quaterback doing, especially if said quaterback was investigated for sexual assault last year. FSU suspended him for half a game, and there was media outcry (espcially from Paul Feinbaum, who needs to be kicked really hard in the nuts). Why wasn't he suspended for a full game? Well at the eleven hour (literally, it was 11:00 Friday night), FSU announced he was suspended for the full game. Note: this came after Jimbo Fisher watched the backup, Sean Maguire, in practice. Winston is putting his team at risk when he does this, and it's pissing me off.
Okay... that's off my chest, now onto the game, and... Okay why does Winston have his pads on? Okay, never mind. Well Sean Maguire wasn't bad, but our Offensive Line looked like a pasta strainer, they were all over him. The game utlimatley proved, that no matter what, you need an excellent kicker. Roberto Aguayo only missed one kick last year and if perfect so far. You can get the ball down the field or in a an OT situation just knowing that your kicker is clutch. I predict he'll have a long NFL career.
So Alabama set the tone for the game in their very first offensive play by way of a long touchdown pass. Some might be tempted to say that Florida kept up with them in the first half, but keep in mind that two of Flordia's touchdowns were the result of turnovers. Their offense is weak, and I don't see Will Muschamp on the UF sidelines this time next year.
Then there is LSU who fell behind early to Mississippi State and just never managed to catch up. The week started with a terrific game between Auburn and Kansas State, and Auburn looked pretty good. Oklahoma finally got a decent opponant and showed what they could do. Oregon played a tough game against Washington State, who also looked really good.
Virigina Tech continues to fall apart and Michigan... oh man. You have to think that Mack Brown is sitting at home by the phone waiting for either Michigan or Florida to call. Missouri lost to Indiana.
Penn State beat UMass, which is of interest only to me, but hey, 4-0 is nothing to sneeze at. And hey can we give props to E Carolina? Talk about shaking things up!
Oh, and Miami lost, which makes me happy
So next week... Well Thursday looks fun with Texas tech and Oklahoma State, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to stay up for the UCLA/ Arizona game as we have contarctors coming in the next morning. Assuming there are no more screw ups, Winston will be on the field for FSU's game against NC State who always play us tough. Arkansas has a crack at Texas A&M, Notre Dame takes on Syracuse, Penn State takes on Nortwestern, Missouri takes on South Carolina.

I doubt that Okie State-Texas Tech game is any good. Tech just seems like a mess right now. Even Iowa State fans are circling that game as a possible win.

Half game suspensions are always dumb, not just in this case but always. It isn't even a punishment. There is no real sacrifice for it. It is just a way to make it seem like they actually give a shit, when really if things go bad they will always have the second half to pull things off.

Oh please, I'm a Mizzou fan. You think a bad field goal is gonna hurt me? GET READY FOR A REPEAT THIS WEEKEND!! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Normally, I would trash talk, but we just lost at home to Indifuckingana, which makes us the Big 10's biggest win of the season. So right now, I'm not too optimistic about this game or the rest of the season. At least we got Vanderbilt on our schedule, so we'll get to at least 4 wins.
