Wow, that was nuts. It was like I was reading a script for a TV show or something. Anyway, none of you have ever met me, though ICP and I emailed each other back and forth for a bit a couple of years ago, and I have posted a selfie here. Despite the fact I have two gimmick accounts (though I use them very rarely and much less since TOC became what it is today) I am indeed real. Living in Calgary, Canada though, you're just going to have to take my word for it. Though I rarely talk about or post anything too personal so I'm guessing if I was entirely invented not a lot of you would do more than shrug.

You know for a long time I felt an arguable degree of responsibility - the last thing E Buzz Miller did on this site was post a selfie saying it'd be his last because he was gonna kill himself, we had it taken down because of the content, and within twenty four hours I heard he was dead. It'd be absurd to reduce someone else's choices to a degree of social media frivolity, but all the same, for months I felt uneasy recalling that. I could have done something different. I should have done something different. I've never said this out loud because back when I thought it was real it would seem a self-absorbed thing to say (and it probably still is), but there's a weight off my back now. This kind of confuses me. I wasn't a big follower of this guy, though I read a bunch of his comments I never the suicide one. I thought he died of heart failure? Or was that just the obit being sensitive? The story we were told was that his heart failed as the result of a chronic condition in the aftermath of a failed suicide attempt. |

Maybe I'm misremembering, but didn't "they" decide to have an open marriage at some point, which seemed to really break him up? Like, he seemed really depressed about it. I felt bad for thinking this at the time, but after his "death", when she was the grieving widow, I thought it strange that she seemed to feel like she had no role in his depression. You aren't misremembering. I definitely remember him posting in the Savage Love comments that they had decided that, and that he was depressed about it because she was having success at it, and he was not. |

Worth noting that EBM was one of the first people (unless we count isolated cases like Phel and Prison Wine) to do the whole connecting outside the AVC by facebook/twitter thing, so he only became “Dom” around when AVC twitter spin-offs/people friending one another on facebook started, so pretty early. Definitely before Opera_punk arrived on the scene. The thing that gives this whole thing almost a literary twist was that EBM was one of the people who established that culture at the AVC.  |

Yeah, he was posting at AVC about all the pop culture stuff way before any of this weird personal stuff with Opera Punk became a thing. He was one of the most memorable commenters on the AVC!
This is just too weird.

Buzz Miller was honestly one of the reasons I stopped lurking all those years ago. He was knowledgeable about random pop culture nonsense and funny and not a dick. Buzz Miller/OperaPunk/Prove You Are Real Human Being thread, Celebith met me in Seoul last fall. There's a picture of us on the meet up thread. |

This is awful. To the TOC article, I can confirm that Miss Anthropy was a real person. Apart from any possibility that her death was faked, too (which, given that she had a very, very common name, would be hard to find), I'm confident she wasn't a catfisher. And the people who have met me from here no that I'm too real. Yep, and by association, Monty and I exist too. I'd go find the selfie threat photo (too poor quality to be 'shopped) but I'm lazy. "Selfie threat" is a funny Freudian slip. We're not that ugly, are we? |

Sluggo basically just liked to troll people in a juvenile way (and people would take the bait) to defuse what he saw as a pretentious and sappy community, post weird photos, and ultimately got bored with the AVC/TI. Sluggo’s approach with alt accounts was also different—made no bones about himself being Sluggo. Unless he was using a separate IP account for E. Buzz and Opera_punk they would have had their accounts swept up whenever his IP was banned, too, as happened with me and Flag_Bearer. And Sluggo, by his own account, got around IP bans by just posting by mobile and having his IP reset itself whenever he turned airplane mode on and off—he really didn’t put a lot of thought into it. Anyway here’s Sluggo’s confession, and here’s a list of all the Sluggos. Also worth noting that Sluggo isn’t the only person to come up with this idea—“Core Concept” here was a Fatman account. |
