The previous Sonic was fine. He's a human hedgehog. He should look creepy. Is the new one that much different? Looks the same to me but I don't care enough to go watch the old trailer to find out. We were a Nintendo family, I never even owned a Sonic.

We were a NIntendo family, I never even owned a Sonic. The complaints revolved around movie-Sonic looking too human, both in overall body proportions and in details like leg musculature and teeth. The new version just looks,to me, like an over-simplified cartoon character that doesn't belong in a world with laws of physics.

Aaaaaaaand we're back. Scarlett Johansson is coming off a very up and down few months where she appears in two Oscar-calibre movies and said a whole bunch of things about minority casting and Woody Allen, Florence Pugh is a Russian spy now (holy shit she is in everything), and David Harbour is a crazy Russian berserker giving plus-sized Marvel cosplayers another option. And together they're going to take down Black Widow's old Soviet ballerina spy camp.

You: The Disney remakes are stale shot-for-shot recreations that have no original vision or reason to exist beyond the pursuit of profits Mulan: Hold my katana
This looks cool as hell.

Wonder Woman 1984! I'm so excited! I've watched this trailer like five times!

I think I may be mentally incapable of getting excited about Ghostbusters anymore (like I am with Terminator). That said, the cardinal sin of every single Ghostbusters sequel/reboot/whatever has been this bizarre need to start from scratch every time, and I don't get why they keep doing it. Dan Aykroyd had a great idea from the beginning with the franchises, and they have spectacularly failed to use that idea every time since. It means we get a huge chunk of film dedicated to the origin every time, and that's simply not interesting enough to be worth the time.

Is he wished into existence by Max Lord? Is he a time-traveler plucked from the airplane just before it blew up? Is he a clone? Whatever, Chris Pine is charming AF in this role and I love him and I can't wait. I also really like what I'm seeing of Kristen Wiig as Barbara Ann. It'll be interesting to see her play a villain.

Yeah, I'm not going to assume the trailer represents the tone of the actual film, but it's certainly an odd choice.

Man, if I hadn’t known it was Ghostbusters, I would have guessed it was a new Tremors. I would LOVE to see Paul Rudd in Tremors! I have no strong original Ghostbusters feels, but this looks fun! And I do like the approach they’re taking, linking it to Egon, since Ramis can’t be there.

I mean this as the highest possible compliment: trailers are often kind of afraid to lean into that kind of meticulous synchronicity of music beats to action* , fanvids 100% are not, and this trailer is like the best fanvid I’ve seen. People dump a lot of feelings into fanvids, and there is a lot of feelings in this. More Thymiscira YAY What have you done to Pedro Pascal’s faaaaace BOO this better not be the start of a Tom Hardy-esque career arc where every role Pascal takes does its dead level best to obscure every bit of attractiveness. *or do it really shittily

Seems like 2020 is going to be a pretty solid year for women in film. Nothing to do with the film itself, but... does anyone know why some internet trailers (this being an example) have those 5-second pre-trailer trailers at the beginning? Genuinely curious.

I think it's because they're run as ads, and try to grab people quickly to keep them from skipping it. For whatever reason, they don't make non-ad versions of the trailer to run as well, probably to inflate view counts.

I always thought it was to grab people who were scrolling past it on social media as a way to grab the viewer to watch the whole thing. I expect soon to have a 1 second GIF as a trailer for the 5 second trailer for the full length trailer. My favorite is when I click on a trailer and it plays the full trailer as a ad for itself.

I really wish they hadn't kept that ultra-ugly aesthetic from Suicide Squad. I absolutely hate the look of this.
