Marketing new sci-fi films must be really hard, eh? Because this trailer is nearly nonsensical, but the short Wikipedia description is clear and could be the blurb on the back of a paperback book.
Disappearance of a loved one and a popular street drug that lets you relive happier memories: 20% of the plot of Minority Report.
When I saw the trailer I thought, "This trailer is a mish mash of a half dozen other sci-fi stories that make no sense when put together."
But then the Wikipedia summary is: Guy runs a business that lets clients relive memories. A mysterious woman comes in, and he falls for her. But, uh oh, another client's memories implicate her in a crime! He must find out the truth! And the city is flooded because we can do cool things with CGI now!
Wow, that is a paper thin premise that should never produce such a messy trailer.

This looks like a lot of fun: They made a big deal when shooting this one in my area and I recognize some shots from Diablo Canyon outside of town (which you may know as the setting of the Tim Blake Nelson section of Ballad of Buster Scruggs). |

I liked Get Out and haven't seen Us, but oh man this looks good. One of the commenters on TOC (I think it was there) had a fun guess that it could be a biblical thing. Playing off the idea of "bad miracle" that it could be some kind of literal act of God. I don't know that I'm feeling that based on the trailer, but I like the idea. It reminds me of Ted Chiang's "Hell Is the Absence of God," which honestly would make an awesome adaptation. |

Excited for this.
Ex Machina underwhelmed me. It's very well-acted but I felt it played it too safe in rolling out the same "what is human?" tropes that we've been doing since we conceptualized robots. But I very much enjoyed Annihilation; it's not perfect but it swings for the fences.
