Oh, the “every star destroyer is a Death Star now” thing was eye-rollingly JJ too, but I feel like my posts are more negative than my actual feelings here.

Beats the fuck out of Lando mackin on a girl less than half his age. He was asking because he thinks she’s his daughter! Honestly I couldn’t decide when I was watching which it was meant to be. But assuming the audience will go with “they’re both black so clearly they have to be related” is equally as distasteful as “Lando that old smoothie checkin out a 27 year old”.

I am A Brown and the "oh look, all the people of color together, how... obvious" stuck out to me pretty hard, as well as the attempts at sinking both the Finn/Poe and Finn/Rey ships. I don't remember Lando talking about having a family or a missing daughter, but I saw that scene as more actual "looking for your family, maybe I have an idea" than "Colt 45: works every time".

The reason I thought daughter was because he had asked her what system she was from. That seems more in line with an old dude who has lots of sex trying to figure out if he had banged anyone there before.
What Jimmy said about having the few black people be related to each other didn't even dawn on me(most likely because I am white myself), but yeah that is a bad look. I will give JJ some benefit of the doubt there and that he probably didn't realize what he was doing, but it still is coming from a place of white privilege.

Establishing that Lando and Jannah are related is stupid and lazy (and pretty racist, imo), neglecting to include/editing out any hints along the way that they're related but leaving in a long, lingering, and now completely ambiguous scene between them is even stupider and lazier. Kind of like that recurring bit about Finn having to tell Rey something really important that gets absolutely no resolution. At least follow through on your hacky plot points!

The Knights of Ren are not cool, despite what random first order trooper told us.
The Knights of Ren are like Boba Fett, the more they get shown or explained, the worse they are.

I've reached my limit for Star Wars, methinks. I was already fatigued with Star Wars after Last Jedi, due to how discourse went with that. There wasn't anything in TRoS to make me walk that back. I've seen enough of Disney Era Star Wars that it just gives me a feeling of resigned disappointment.
Even before Disney bought Star Wars there was an abundance of Star Wars material, from movies, to books, to video games, etc. etc. That I'm covered for my lifetime for quality Star Wars entertainment to engage with. Outside of Last Jedi there just hasn't been much that's been put out(especially movie wise) that doesn't feel like law of diminishing returns.
I don't need new Star Wars, I especially don't need new Star Wars that is just a rehash of the OT. I get why Disney is pumping out anything Star Wars, they want to make money. As a fan though? Ehhh.
I was willing to give Force Awakens a pass for the most part on just being a New Hope again. I still saw it three times in theaters and liked it a lot. I get a lot of people are not fans of the prequels. So just redoing a New Hope to show people they can still do Star Wars the way people liked it, that was a smart move.
With Last Jedi I got what I was hoping for, a new way forward that could justify the existence of Star Wars beyond simple, we want your money. It truly felt like a step in a forward direction. Not nostalgia, not just another Star Wars thing to enjoy. However, turns out a lot of fuckboys just wanted the same ol same ol and pitched a whiny fit and harassed cast members. Sadly souring the whole thing. If you even said you liked Last Jedi to someone, you were going to get a response from another person about them hating it and it was trash, and just made even liking the movie exhausting.
Which is why TRoS was such a big disappointment. Instead of Star Wars moving forward, JJ Abrams was willing to just let it stay stagnant in nostalgia and bending the knee to the same whiny fanboys who legit harassed cast members off of social media. Is TRoS truly a captial BAD movie? Nah, not really. On objective measures it is better than the Prequels, from acting to dialogue to visuals, etc. But it is definitely my least favorite Star Wars movie, because there was nothing new or interesting about it, plus the added real life stuff with the fuckboys. It was just another rehash that was just wanting to placate everyone. If you wanted just an adequate Star Wars adventure, you got it. But I didn't want that, I already have that in spades. Why should I waste my time and money on continued stagnation? It's souless.
The same problems I'm now having with Star Wars is something that isn't just a Star Wars problem. This is sadly happening to entertainment as a whole. Everything is about reboots, everything is just cashing in on what works and not straying too far from that. I want new and interesting things, even if something fails. I don't want the rest of my life just being the same shit redone with new paint.
Edit: I really don't want this post to come off as, this has ruined my childhood or future, it isn't that. It is simply why I'm frustrated, and why I likely won't be giving a shit about most future Star Wars projects(barring a trilogy by Rian Johnson).

Has the series ever created a character like Finn, who has multiple possible-romantic partners but always gets shuffled to the side? They set up him up with Rey, Rose, Janna, even fucking Poe, and yet the boy is left to himself at the end.

Also, I still hold that my Rise of Skywalker fanfic would've made a better script, where the plot is all about Kylo killing off the Knights of Ren and trying to turn the First Order into his own Sith death cult, with the goal of wiping out anyone Force-sensitive from the galaxy.

Ok so we saw it last night and y’all, this is the Star Wars version of Endgame. I liked Endgame, I liked ROS. Jam packed and full of callbacks. It’s not a perfect movie but I liked it. And so did my hardcore Star Wars fan husband. It’s entertainment. It’s not Cats. Enjoy it. When all the ships showed up at the end, my daughter and I looked at each other and said 'Endgame'. And then she said 'It's like, the only way Disney knows how to end series'. She's probably correct.

The other thing that had me really negative going in was that I heard Rose had one line which seemed like a concession to the vile people who had a problem with her just existing. And obviously she was sidelined compared to TLJ but it was a lot better than one line, and they also added another young woman of color in a decent role, so maybe it wasn't that. No, it was totally that.

At one point Palpatine tells Rey, (paraphrased) "if you kill me the spirits of all previous Sith will be transferred from me to you and you will become the new Sith ruler". Which, what? But then she kills him, and this doesn't happen? So..... his grand plan doesn't even work? Sure, Palpatine's plan in RoTJ didn't work, but A. the plan was simple and made sense and B. the audience knows why it didn't work.
To be fair, Rey didn't kill Palpatine, he killed himself with his own stupid force electricity, the same way it went down with Mace Windu in Episode III. The most egregious thing is that Palpatine didn't learn from his own mistakes and just kept punching himself in the face.

The Rise of Skywalker novelization had more hints that Lando was the father of Jannah. Because in JJ's Star Wars you can't be important unless you are related to someone else! Definitely one of my least favorite things this sequel trilogy has done was to keep the galaxy constricted to the same fucking people. They didn't learn much from the failures of the prequels. Beats the fuck out of Lando mackin on a girl less than half his age. #twothings. Star Wars does love its incest.

It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. It was sorta entertaining, but incredibly lazy. How did no one on the jedi hunter ship notice the Knights of Ren lurking just outside the ship? Or the Empire 1st Order Last Order prison transport ship landing close enough to catch Chewie? Why does Kylo's ability to see things around Rey only work sometimes? Why did we bring back Palpatine?
You know how what makes most improv work is 'Yes, and...'? This was like, the exact opposite of that, and had the exact opposite effect. All that stuff that happened in TLJ? We were kidding! Characters we spent half a movie developing? We're gonna ignore them to bring in a fucking hobbit. You like hobbits, right? SW fans like to repeat quotes from the movies - we can do that too! And holy fuck, that last scene. If she had answered 'Just, Rey', at least that would have been her owning her own destiny. But fucking Rey Skywalker?!? Fuck jj abrams.

Pretty much with you on all of this. I rarely rewatch any of the movies outside of ANH & ESB. When I'm in the mood for Star Trek, I go back and watch my favorite episodes from TOS, TNG & DS9. When I'm in the mood for Star Wars I go back and replay KOTOR or Jedi Knight (and hopefully Fallen Order - haven't played yet). The best games seem to handle the universe better than the lesser movies.

I'm just sad that nobody made the joke that maybe she was from the Lando system. All the other callbacks and references and they couldn't make one that Lando, Han, and Leia probably laughed about over space coffee every time they went to visit.

I'll probably see it again, because it had some good set pieces, but the more I think about it, the angrier I get about it. It's the worst star war, even after the ewok movies. They spent a third of TLJ building a relationship of some sort with Rose and Finn and I'm not sure they had a line of dialog between them here. This movie sucked.

It is astonishing how much stuff has been released from people involved in making this movie that amounts to: "Well, but there was a reason it was bad, you guys!"

I've now seen it twice. They do share a line. Finn asks why Rose isn't going with all the main characters and Rose says she can't because of some bullshit homework Leia is making her do.
It is horrible.
