I'm delighted for Rogue One and the spinoff series, from Rebels. I've hit and stayed at near-encyclopedic levels of Star Wars enthusiasm since I was five, and I'm loving the soft reboot of the universe beyond the original trilogy, and I want to savor every last ounce of the new wave of excellent material currently displacing the EU stagnation and the sour taste of the prequel trilogy from my senses.

Huh. Not bad. I was expecting more Jar-Jar, though.

Rogue One trailer is here! D'oh, didn't see this. That said, I'm going to rationalize having created a new topic because we probably needed one for it anyway.

Ben Grimm It'll be like when we used the TFA thread for the non-spoiler discussion, it's fine.

Okay, putting this here since it's a possible spoiler.
Forest Whitaker in Rogue One is apparently playing "a character we've seen before in Star Wars canon, just not as you might expect him to appear".
Odds seem to be on him being Captain Panaka from Naboo, which would be pretty neat.

Disney seems to be all but ignoring the prequels.

Dropping those details into the cartoons is one thing, but they wouldn't tease out a book character like this. Honestly, it will probably be something like "Vaguely Forrest Whitaker looking guy in the background of the cantina scene"

His arc was actually pretty neat, so I'm eager to see what from that backstory they choose to integrate. Onderon has been part of mostly-middling narratives in the old EU, sans perhaps Knights of the Old Republic 2, but it's solid enough. Then again, it's only a name, so perhaps it means very little.

Has anyone here actually read the Aftermath books? Are they worth spending time with? I gave up on the old EU back in HS, but I've been enjoying the re-launched comics output, I could be convinced to come back to the novels as well.

apparently the aftermath books' quality depends on how you feel about the author's writing style./ On io9 at least it seems pretty split between enjoyment and hatred

I picked up the first one when it was a deal of the day (like $2). The writer writes most stuff in the present tense, and the book bounces all over the damn place, and I didn't rage-quit it as much as rapidly lose interest. I only read the first few chapters. I didn't think it was awful, or anything, it just didn't do anything to grab me.

According to io9, Episode IX will use some previously existing footage of Carrie Fisher. If I had to guess, it'd be they're using a mix of cut footage and moving a scene or two from Episode VIII.

So rewatching Force Awakens while on vacation this week, it seemed super obvious this time around that Rey had something done to her memory at some point.

You would think that would have been an easy improvement for the First Order to make on Imperial death base design, but nooooope

So, from leaked images of The Last Jedi LEGO sets, we have this great spoiler: Notice Snoke in what looks like a fancy bathrobe, and obviously human-scale. Mostly obvious that he wouldn't really be 30 feet tall, but still.

The dude who wrote Harry Potter the Curses Child, aka shitty fanfiction, was hired to retool episode IX's script. So basically IX has gone from being in the hands of good (Rian Johnson) to mediocre (Colin Treverrow or however that is spelled) to pile of garbage (cursed child dude).

I like the idea that a can of beer would have convinced Episode IV Han that there was some universal force in the galaxy.
