Lakers front office thinking they could pull Kawhi after miraculously getting Anthony Davis was nothing but pure hubris. You'd think the past ten years would have humbled them somewhat, but they're still pulling that "sure I have all my toys, but I want that other kid's toys as well" bullshit. Honestly, it can be hard to support a team that feels like they're magically compelled to get everything they want through no actual effort of their own but based solely on brand recognition, even though I know that's not necessarily the fault of the people actually playing on the team. The childish side of me is a bit annoyed that he and PG went to the Clippers of all teams, but objectively it'll make for a compelling rivalry and some good old fashioned b-ball drama. Compelling b-ball post, gordon.

Those of us in Phoenix are looking forward to the Suns having an epically bad season. Whew, if we thought the knives were out for Sarver in recent years it will be nothing as compared to what he's going to experience next season. I said elsewhere that this might be so bad that it might finally bring entertainment value back to the Suns after an absence of it for many years.

Your first paragraph pretty much is the reason why I dislike the lakers, and teams like the Yankees, etc. etc. It is that wanting the other kid's toys mentality coming not only from the management but the team's fanbases as well, which just irks me. I don't think the NBA really is as balanced as everyone says, I will be shocked if anyone but the clippers win at this point, but it won't be as insufferable as if the Lakers got Kawhi and Lakers fans(not you I'm talking about) celebrated a championship from this summer to next and so on.

The only difference between the Suns and the Knicks, the media cares about the Knicks. It is crazy just how bad the Suns have been this decade. Ayton is a fine player, but they passed up Doncic, also passed up De'Aaron Fox, and drafted Dragen Bender(probably spelling that name wrong). That was their past three drafts before this year, ooof.

Oh yeah. It is so bad. They've turned into a joke amongst sports fans here. The memes from local NBA fans I've seen on my Twitter feed have been amazing. The drafting has just been awful, regardless of Ayton being a good player. It takes some truly awful drafting to be this bad for this long in the NBA.
It is helpful to compare with the NHL Arizona Coyotes: Effective bankruptcy by the previous owner, playing with no owner for two seasons which made them literally unable to sign any big free agents, getting fucked over in the NHL draft lottery MORE THAN ONCE, constant threats to move the team to Canada, new ownership and a complete rebuild... You'd think that would be the worst pro team in the state, right? LOL, no. The Coyotes finished 39-35-8, with 86 points, in 9th place out of 15 teams in the Western Conference. That's a 16 point improvement over 2017-2018, when they finished in last place.
Can you even imagine the Suns finishing in the middle of the conference rankings? Ha ha ha ha. What's their excuse? Did they play with no owners for 2 years? Did the Phoenix City Council threaten to boot them out of their arena? No.
Sarver is the worst. With all due respect to the Knicks, Sarver really is the worst. I'm hoping for an historically bad season next season.
But it is kind of sad. The Suns used to be the most reliable team in the state. They were by far the most popular pro team in the state. This has been totally squandered. This has gone on so long that locals have just stopped caring.

Maybe now that guy from my gym will quit laughing at my Clippers tuque. Frankly I knew jack and shit about them, I only got it because it matched the colour of my running jacket and I have family in LA.

Won't he probably just be pissed off at you now for "supporting" the team that "stole" Kawhi from Toronto?

I think even the most optimistic people were only hoping for a 1 year short term thing. I'm not too clear on it since I hate draft talk, it reminds me of obsessing about movie box office figures - i.e., it gets too much into the business side instead of the actual thing I'm interested in.

If it makes you feel any better, you signed my German brother-in-law's favorite player, the immortal Ricky Rubio, so you've got that going.

AD having to wait an entire season to get LeBron's #32 makes for a more compelling "passing of the torch" narrative anyway
Seems bizarre that only a couple years ago I was being forced to feign excitement over Lonzo Ball

Whatever will they do?

In their biggest win all season, the Wolves have somehow managed to unload Andrew Wiggins' contract

Is there a case to be made that the Hornets are better off paying Gordon Hayward $30 million a year to be an average(?) power forward than they would have been paying Kemba Walker slightly more to be a quite good points guard? The Shoutbox claims "yes", but it seems like Walker is a better points guard than Hayward is a power forward?

The Shoutbox claims "yes", but it seems like Walker is a better points guard than Hayward is a power forward? Who was saying that? Like, there was definitely a ceiling on the Kemba version of the Hornets that was short of a championship, but even the best version of Hayward doesn't seem like it would be much higher. And considering his injury history, that could end up being a disaster of a contract. Maybe they see it as a bridge to staying relevant while LaMelo hopefully develops into a star, but that seems a stretch to me.

While you may prefer your basketball performed by the most skilled, talented, and athletic players in the world, some of us enjoy the finer things. Like the most skilled, talented, and athletic basketball players in Australia instead.

Honestly, I probably would enjoy it in person. We went to a basketball Bundesliga game in Frankfurt when we visited sister-in-law's family in Germany and it was a blast because literally only the weirdo hardcore locals showed up.
