I have a problem where my mobile disqus has gone back to the year 2007. It only loads 15 comments at a time, and I can't see who upvoted what.

Is there anyway AVC can block IP addresses? The Fat Man bullshit and his current trolling on this week's PCW post is tedious to put it mildly, especially since he's trying to goad another commenter into suicide.

He was goading Bruiser Brody to commit suicide for sometime. Over a solid 30 minutes of replying to all of his comments saying he should kill himself, over and over again.

Disqus does not have a mechanism for searching for users, which would be awfully useful in trying to determine the legitimacy of a questionable registrant here. I suppose that might be for the purpose of protecting people from being searched out for harassment, but it's just as easy to harass someone when you can happen upon them and view their entire comment history (that can be made private too, but no one ever would until after an incident).

Over a solid 30 minutes of replying to all of his comments saying he should kill himself, over and over again. For a second there I actually thought you meant the real Bruiser Brody who was murdered in the 80's, so that was a weird thought of a person trying to goad a dead guy into suicide. Now more seriously, just what the hell? How can people be this obsessively cruel towards another person? It takes some superhuman persistence to keep making accounts, and more than likely keep getting around an IP ban just to keep spamming a persons comments. That is a special kind of asshole, and also a person who needs some real psychiatric help.

Post-Lupin I think that’s something the staff does when they have an announcement—they also did it once when there was some confusion as to whether Esposito was ending her column or not.

Of all the worst things about Disqus, the biggest may be the sheer number of unaffiliated sites using it now. That makes it more likely that should I stumble onto, oh, a Boston Sports Media page and see some DisIdiot referring to a prominent sportswriter at the Washington Post as "broad" (her crime: reporting negatively on the fahking Pay-tree-aughts), or EW where there will be someone insisting that Larry Wilmore needs to get less "Black-centric" or move to BET, my itch to take said idiots down several notches will get the better of me since Why Not? I'm already logged into the comment platform!
It is a dangerous, slippery slope.

Every time that I see the name of this thread I laugh. Why? Because Disqus will never improve, and it is hysterical to think that it might.
Case in point: today's Esposito article was so bad that my comment needed to be approved by the AVC before it would go up.

Esposito articles are a shit-show. Be it because of the somewhat mediocre writing, the gross overreactions made in both her defense and against her, and now the apparent Orwellian-editing used by the powers that be.

Am I the only person who occasionally encounters a message that I can't post because I've been blocked? I've seen it on AV Club and DListed. I usually just switch browsers or change the country of my proxy and it goes away.

And I now I can't log onto my avclub account for dumb reasons. But I'm sure my annoyance is just another manifestations of fearing change.

I thought it was just me, but everybody was having trouble seeing their own Disqus profile. My notifications at least work again now that I'm home, but all Disqus sites remain slow to load at my work in any browser.

Ahhh Disqus. So I've had a problem reading any of my notifications the last couple of days. First on Firefox when I try to login it gives me a security alert that avclub.com/login doesn't have the proper security certificate. So I click "Add Exception" and nothing happens. Though that sounds like more of a Firefox than Disqus problem. When I tried to login on Safari I was able to, there I see the red button that says 9+ notifications. My ocd is driving me crazy to make the red button go away, and see what people have Liked or had to say in response to me. Anyway when I click on it a Disqus Login page opens. I have never created a Disqus account, always signing in from the AV Club. And I'm scared to create one now as Ive heard stories about people's entire commenting history disappearing when they create a Disqus account. WHY CAN'T IT JUST WORK LIKE IT ALWAYS HAS?
Thoughts?

I don't know, for the last couple weeks I've been getting a ton of NoScript click-jacking warnings about Disqus while on the AVC.
yay.

... I've always been completely fine with Disqus. Maybe it's because I registered with Disqus instead of linking an AV Club account?

Hey, we can curse again in the comments! When did that happen? AVC must tinker with their spam settings more than other sites. You can swear up the wazoo on DListed (and embed pictures and links). I'm hard pressed to think of a word that won't get you in you trouble - granted, something offensive or racist will definitely get you flagged by individuals for the mods to deal with, but still. Tom & Lorenzo have the most stringest settings - pictures, links, certain words and boom, you're in spam jail.

In my experience there is also active moderation at the AVC, largely by the actual writers/editors.
I think pics and gifs work well in smaller, more intimate comment sections (like the Dissolve, although even there it gets a bit much sometimes) and am grateful for their absence at the AVC. Not only would there be too much, but it’s way too much of a crapshoot in terms of who’ll actually end up posting.
