Just thought a nice forum for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe was in order. Threads for individual movies need to continue, since this is more of an overlook and discussion page about the MCU, a glorious cinematic franchise with massive and ambitious storytelling.
Let's start off the proceedings with some ranking of the MCU movies, shall we? These rankings should inspire some good discussion in and of itself, as will future Marvel movies, trailers, episodes from their TV shows, and just fun speculation.
Here's my ranking of the 10 MCU movies thus far:
1.) The Avengers 2.) Guardians of The Galaxy 3.) Iron Man 4.) Captain America: The Winter Soldier 5.) Iron Man 3 6.) Thor: The Dark World 7.) Thor 8.) Captain America: The First Avenger 9.) The Incredible Hulk 10.) Iron Man 2

Have not seen GOTG
1. Cap 2 2. Avengers 3. Cap 1 4. Iron Man 3(after this I really don't like any of the others) 5. Iron Man 6. Thor And then the rest are all tied for never watching again, under any circumstance.

On another forum we graded them chronologically.
Iron Man - A- The Incredible Hulk - B Iron Man 2 - C- Thor - C Captain America: The First Avenger - A- The Avengers - A Iron Man 3 - B- Thor: The Dark World - C+ Captain America: The Winter Soldier - A Guardians of the Galaxy - B+
Personally I favor the Captain America movies above all else.

Benedict Cumberbatch seems to be the one who will be playing Doctor Strange in 2016.
A really good choice I think, I'm sure he'll do a nice job with it. He's no Joaquin, but few are, and he's actually a pretty clever choice seeing as we've never really seen him play a very remorseful character before. Can't wait to see how he looks in the costume!

I'm still not sold on Doctor Strange. I haven't had much exposure to him other than the most recent animated movie and the old 1970s TV one.
On a related note, since most of the "magic" we've seen in the Marvel movies so far has been more like advanced tech, it's going to be interesting to me to see how the use of ACTUAL magic gets integrated into the story over time. I guess starting with Scarlet Witch in Avengers 2.
I'm still hoping that Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin comes back for real, with his ten rings and everything at some point.

When it's not laid out like that, you can at least pretend that they are rolling out movies as they have good ideas for them, instead of it all being a blatant cash-grab. That being said I've settled into straight up ignoring the new Spider-man movies, seeing most of the MCU stuff, and taking all the X-men and DC stuff on a case by case basis. Makes things much more manageable.

After that I'm curious about Fantastic Four, since that isn't attached to any cinematic universe, but I haven't even seen a trailer for it, so who knows. Deadpool could be interesting if they go the full Deadpool route. DC though, as much as I love the characters, I have no interest in the type of cinematic universe they are building. Like I probably won't even watch Batman vs Superman or most of them, but I may check out Captain Marvel(Shazam) or The Flash because I love them enough and am curious. As for the other MCU and Spider-Man films, at this point I feel like I have to see them. X-Men pretty much the same thing for the main films, but the spin-off solo titles not so much. That graph is super depressing.

Honestly, I think Cumberbatch is a better fit for Strange than Phoenix. Phoenix is the better actor for sure, but Cumberbatch just feels like strange in a weird way. Yeah, the Sherlock fans can be annoying at times and make it feel like Cumberbatch is a bigger deal than he should be, but the guy is a perfectly fine actor with the right material. A better fit than Khan, that's for sure.

I don't think his performance was specifically the problem with that movie though, the whole thing was just poorly conceived.

How the hell do you throw the Justice League keys to Zack Synder? You know what he does. You've seen his work. You still give him the centerpiece of the DC franchise? Sheesh. Anyway, I think that some of the lesser known characters/teams have potential. If they are willing to lower the stakes from THE WORLD/UNIVERSE IS IN PERIL something like the Suicide Squad could be a pretty solid movie.

Considering that most of those (namely stuff from Sony, Fantastic Four and DC) won't likely happen, I don't find it too distressing. And in your response to your above post Chalmers, the choice of Zack Snyder never fails to bamboozle me, but I retain hope for other DC features. Suicide Squad actually sounds great (Especially if they bring King Shark into the proceedings), and directors that aren't Zack Snyder could really do interesting things with the likes of Wonder Woman and Shazam!

Yeah I have no faith in Zack Snyder therefore I am not really excited about the DC movie lineup.
As far as Fox goes at this point, I'm looking forward to X-Men: Apocalypse. What they've done with the "reboot" series or whatever you want to call it has been great, Days of Futures Past is probably my favorite movie of the year. It makes me slightly more confident in the Fantastic Four reboot, although they don't really have a high bar to jump. A lot of people talk about letting Spider-Man go back to Marvel, but I think X-Men works a lot better as its own universe and wouldn't mesh with what Marvel has set up at this point.

Flapjackriley: Completley agree on the recent X-Men movies. It helps that, unlike Spider-Man, there's actually a massive amount of characters and mythology within that particular group of heroes that could make up a cohesive universe separate from the MCU. Days of Future Past was excellent, can't wait to see Apocalypse, where we'll FINALLY get Gambit in a major role, this time played by Channing Tatum!

Ehhhhhh...I actually don't see what was wrong with Taylor Kitsch as Gambit. I don't mind Channing Tatum but I'm not on board with his casting. What I liked about the latest film was how they've did a lot of character work without making it a one-man Hugh Jackman or Jennifer Lawrence show. Channing Tatum doesn't seem to work as an ensemble actor but that's only based on what I've seen him in which isn't a lot to be fair.

Channing Tatum is awesome, but there is nothing wrong with Kitsch being in all the roles. You know what, fuck it, let them both be gambit switching in and out of scenes. OR BE TWO GAMBITS! I actually really dislike DOFP though, but am glad they are are getting on a straight timeline and hopefully Apocalypse will be good.
I personally think both X-Men and Spider-Man should have their own universes. X-Men is always weirdly on the fringe of the marvel universe, even in the comics. While Spider-Man I think is better off being in his own film series because of how big of a name he is, and he has one of the best rogues gallery in all of comics. I'm sure Marvel would love if they had the Fantastic Four though, while GOTG has done great, it is just a wild theory I have that if they did have the FF film rights it would have been them instead of GOTG this summer. Since FF is the perfect bridge to the cosmic part of the Marvel universe, and the skrull and thunderblots and what not all fall under the FF rights. But I'm fine with FF being separate because of how much stuff they can have on their own.

I think Cumberbatch is a good, if wholly boring choice.
In any case, Scott Derrickson actually visited my screenwriting class today and talked about storytelling, and his process. The dude gets it. As far as choices for director go the Sorcerer Supreme is in very good hands.

Has Tatum really had a chance to be in anything that would be considered an ensemble movie? The guy seems to have a good attitude and be game for whatever he gets thrown, seems like he'd probably be fine in that sort of cast.
And I agree with everyone saying that X-men works much better as a stand-alone series. The whole "hated and feared" premise just doesn't work in a world with other superheroes (even in the comics it always seemed like an awkward fit). The average civilian is leery of mutants, but is generally cool with people who get their powers by accident or some other means? Really?

Oh they are Spooky Owl, they are. We're going to get an Inhumans movie in my lifetime. I am not worthy. Here's the concept art for Black Panther they showed off: They confirmed he'll be in Captain America: Civil War, and I'd imagine he'll cameo in Age of Ultron as well. I've got all the logos and dates for the films on my blog, for those interested: landofthenerds.blogspot.com/2014/10/marvel-announces-captain-america-3.htmlI am beyond words over this news so I'll just leave this GIF:

I'm kind of blah on the prospect of Inhumans, but admittedly my only exposure to them is through the early 90's FF cartoon. Curious to see which of the franchises they use to introduce/spin them off from in the absence of the FF.
And am I correct to assume that they are going with the current Captain Marvel for the movie, not Mar-Vell? Seems like Marvel would have to be pretty stupid to pass up an easy chance at featuring a female hero.
