I started playing Final Fantasy 9 for the first time and i'm totally loving it. great game, i have no idea what took me so long to finally play it. I have also been playing a lot of Payday with a friend of mine for the past few months and it is a great co-op game. I just got the second one as well, but i haven't played it yet because my friend hasn't gotten his one yet. Once he does i'm sure i'll start playing that a lot. I never played 8 or 9, I've been meaning to one of these days. Or I can just replay 6, again... 8 is severely underrated in my opinion. It seemed to get a lot of flak for not being 7. 9 is pretty damn great, good story and bringing in a lot of classic FF stuff. Although the final boss is ridiculously hard.

Hey folks. So, after giving my nephew my Xbox 360 a couple of years ago, I went and bought another one last week to play GTA V. Not wanting to chase off the new wife, yet, I have only played for a few hours so far. It really lives up to the hype, though, but I haven't gone online with it yet since I haven't bought headphones. I'm fairly certain I'll get Battlefield 4 when it comes out. Playing Battlefield 2 with a couple of my buddies running in a squad is probably the most fun I've had playing games online. If people on here start playing B4, I'll put my ID on here because getting in pick up groups sucks and no one cooperates.

Friends whose opinion i really respect make 8 sound pretty awful. 9 though is very much a kind of throwback to the old pre-ps final fantasy games and its a lot of fun because of that. if you like 6 i think you will like 9.

I'm still doing my first playthrough of FF6. I'm up to the Floating Continent, but I want to tie up a few loose ends (level grinding, rages, magic, etc.) before I get through it.

I couldn't hit shit half the time, but I could always contribute as a Medic or Engineer.

Even though Assassin's Creed III was a bit of a disappointment, I've nevertheless allowed myself to get slightly excited for Black Flag. I'm not the only one! Yay! III was bad, but not nearly bad enough to swear off the whole series. I'm going to be starting IV tonight. Basically, all I really want out of it is a character who's more interesting than dour ol' Connor. I also started GTA V after failing so miserably at IV a few years ago that I gave up after an hour. So far V is much more enjoyable than I was expecting, mostly because the driving is a lot easier than before. As for the new consoles, I'm getting a better vibe from the PS4, but I've been on xBox long enough that I'm afraid I won't be able to accept a different controller. I don't want shapes, I want letters, dammit!

I've been filling some time by wandering around as an ice-specced Witch. Pretty fun so far, though I have no idea what I'm doing in the Passive Skill Tree.

I'm right there with you. Mechanically, 8 is very exploitable, so I can actually understand an argument with the perspective that it is not a very good game, but I'm so in love with the world, art, story and so many of the side elements of 8 that I readily and willingly overlook its obvious flaws. I just think it's a fun place to be and spend time. I've played it through to completion ... gosh, maybe 5 times now.

I reckon it's probably too much to hope for an EUIV demo to come out; I'll probably grow tired of waiting for a sale and just pay full price, but there are a few more CK2 games to play before it happens. There is a demo for EUIV, though only available via Steam client. Search for EUIV through it and on the page for the game there is a button to "download demo". And I've been holding off on buying EUIV so far as well. Though not only because of the price, but also because I don't have time to play at the moment. Haven't had much time for a Paradox game in a while, actually. *sigh*

So, I have a question prompted by Inamine and simon21lufc and their mentions of Pokemon X. I have realized that breeding mechanics in games are something I really enjoy. When I used to play Medieval Total War I'd generally auto-resolve the battles and instead spend a lot of time marrying off princes and trying to kill those pesky eldest princes with crappy genetics so I could ensure the future awesomeness of my nobility. Anyway, finding good games with breeding mechanics has been tricky, and when I find them it's generally some teeny little side mechanic that's far from the main focus of the game. I think some Pokemon games fit this bill, but unsure as I've never owned a DS. I might well buy one solely for Pokemon games if they are as apt as I think they might be. So does anyone have any suggestions for awesome games that involve breeding things? Any genre works: strategy, FPS, RPG, puzzle, whatever.

Pokemon X/Y breeding: Each pokemon has inheritable stats (IVs) and passive abilities. Certain passive abilities only have a chance of passing down, and that chance is dependent on the gender of the parent with said ability. Some pokemon are only able to be found through mating. There are also some inheritable moves that can be given to pokemon that wouldn't normally learn it through miscegenation. Dirty, dirty miscegenation. It's possible to create pokemon with the best possible sets of stats, moves, and ability through combinations of miscegenation, incest, and baby exchanging. You can set free your hideous failures to try and survive on their own in the wild or give them to random strangers on the Internet. Final Fantasy 7 and Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 have some fun breeding minigames. Shin Megami Tensei series games have demon fusion, which is fairly similar to breeding.

Reactions I'm hearing to AC4: Piratesassins is that it's actually a pretty good game about being a pirate that drags you back into the lame assassinry of previous installments.

And I had an especially hard time dealing with his (admittedly completely justifiable for an actual human being in that actual situation, but less interesting for the video game character that he was) motivation to just side with whichever Revolutionary War leaders were promising him at any moment to treat his tribe fairly. My interest in his narrative trajectory kept waning each time he'd feel betrayed by another white dude and try to shift his allegiance for the umpteenth time to some other party in the murky, nonsensical political scheming among the main characters that I couldn't ever follow. I wanted to pull Connor aside, sit him down, and be like, "Dude, I'm from the future. I've got some bad news..."

It sounds like that'd be right up my alley. Maybe I should get myself a DS for Christmas then... I don't know if things get better than a game that includes "combinations of miscegenation, incest, and baby exchanging!" I've played some of FF7 and have my husband play through pretty much all of it, and while it is pretty sweet there should clearly be WAY MORE Chocobo breeding. And I've never played Sonic Adventures or Shin Megami Tensei, so thank you very much for those recs as well! Now time to go read up on them...

I've decided my Christmas gift for myself this year (because that's a thing that I do that's not completely sad) will be a PS3. Amazon has a package deal with a 250 GB hard drive, Uncharted 3, and a one-year membership to Playstation Plus for $250. Based on what I'm seeing from other sites and whatnot, that seems to be a pretty good deal, anybody have any input one way or the other? I don't really care about Uncharted 3, but I hear PS Plus is a nice service to have, so I think it'll be worth it. Also, I've never owned a Blu-Ray player before, so I'm excited for that as well.
I'm currently playing Rocksmith 2014 and Call of Duty: Ghosts. I got bored with GTA Online a while back, but I'm sure I'll go back to it at some point. I honestly got really bored with CoD, which shouldn't be surprising, but they usually hold my attention longer than a few weeks or so. I'm really enjoying playing bass on Rocksmith a whole lot more than I'd expected to.

Yes, that's a good deal. The hard drive is much larger than the one I have (80 GB) and you'll need it for the free games you'll be getting from PS+. There are always free games being offered for download on it and new ones keep coming on. And the games are actually good instead of the bottom of the barrel scrapings I remember would get offered free on Xbox LIVE.

I'd love to get in on that, but I refuse to participate in the Black Friday bullshit. My family's tradition is generally to go to the stores way later, like 3 in the afternoon, and pick over what's left (there's still a lot of deals to be found, as long as you don't go in wanting anything specific). It'd be lovely if there were any left at that point, but considering the stores are opening so early now, I doubt it. I'm going to check and see if anyone's doing a similar deal online, because I don't mind staying up late for that. I'll absolutely be getting The Last of Us one way or the other, though, it's at the top of the list of games I really want to play for the PS3.

I wouldn't suggest going to an actual store for it, because fuck Black Friday, but if it's on Amazon or something.

I want to buy a Nintendo 3DS because it's portable and has a lot of games I would play.
On a related note, I miss playing Ocarina of Time over the summer.

I want Wind Waker again but I can't justify paying $300 for a Wii U/Dunno where to find a Gamecube in good shape/Computer not tough enough for Dolphin.

PS+ is incredible. I don't have anywhere near enough time to play the games I get from it, and there have been some truly awesome games up there since I joined (e.g. Uncharted 3, Sleeping Dogs, and XCOM), and lots and lots of discounted games as well.
Protip: every week go to the PS Store and "purchase" the free games for that week even for the systems you don't own. That way if you ever do get a PS4 or a Vita, you will have a big-ass set of games to start off with. And make sure to check every week, because the deals and the free games keep changing but if you miss them you miss them forever.
Seriously, I have no particularly strong feelings about consoles (and I have strongly negative feelings about the Xbox or PS3 fanboys) but Sony is doing everything they can to turn me into a fanboy. It's kind of cool.
I'm taking an extended hiatus from console gaming because I really need to do that, but yeah, that deal sounds awesome and you should take it if you have the cash and time.
