I haven't been playing video games much over the last few years. I lived without a TV for a while, so I fell out of the loop with regards to the current generation. But what I have been doing a lot of is watching the twitch stream Video Game Championship Wrestling. This guy created dozens of video game characters in recent WWE games and has them fight it out. It's an absolute blast. It's on every Tuesday night at 6 PM EST.

I want to buy a Nintendo 3DS because it's portable and has a lot of games I would play. On a related note, I miss playing Ocarina of Time over the summer. All this weekend Target is offering the 3DS XL bundle for $150 : See? I am going to try to get one if any are left. Eek!

Yesterday there was a Buy.com deal for a PS3 + GTA5 for $220. I'd hold out for something like that.

I want Wind Waker again but I can't justify paying $300 for a Wii U/Dunno where to find a Gamecube in good shape/Computer not tough enough for Dolphin. Yeah I'm playing it on Dolphin. It's running fine for me, but my computer is less than a year old.

PS+ is incredible. I don't have anywhere near enough time to play the games I get from it, and there have been some truly awesome games up there since I joined (e.g. Uncharted 3, Sleeping Dogs, and XCOM), and lots and lots of discounted games as well. Protip: every week go to the PS Store and "purchase" the free games for that week even for the systems you don't own. That way if you ever do get a PS4 or a Vita, you will have a big-ass set of games to start off with. And make sure to check every week, because the deals and the free games keep changing but if you miss them you miss them forever. Seriously, I have no particularly strong feelings about consoles (and I have strongly negative feelings about the Xbox or PS3 fanboys) but Sony is doing everything they can to turn me into a fanboy. It's kind of cool. I'm taking an extended hiatus from console gaming because I really need to do that, but yeah, that deal sounds awesome and you should take it if you have the cash and time. Yeah, I don't have much time to play games, but the PS+ account has meant that I get to try a bunch of things without forking out any extra cash. I will definitely renew the membership, as I didn't buy any new games all year.

I want that Zelda 3DS XL so fucking badly but I can't justify buying it (even at $150). I just don't have time to fit it into my life right now. I'd have to give up going to the gym. Or give up going to work... Hey, now that I think about it...

My mom loves her PS3, has not regretted the purchase once. I personally don't have an opinion on it, since I've yet to really play with it. I technically own only two consoles, my SNES and my Gamecube. I have control over the Wii, but that purchase was a 50/50 thing between my mom and my ex-husband. After the divorce I inherited his half, and it's basically mine because my mom doesn't dig on the Wii-mote, but she'll assert her percentage if there's something she really wants to play (Hello, Animal Crossing City Folk). I've only gotten to play with the Playstations after she finishes with them and moves on to the next one. I've only just started playing with the PS2 in the last year since she got her PS3.
She bought 'Assassin's Creed' and 'Little Big Planet' on PS3, in a bundle just for me, and she keeps swearing I'll get a chance to really play them. Soon. Someday. Someday soon, I will get to play them.
My mom is hilarious about the functionality of the PS3, she doesn't like the 'invasive' online components. She asked me how to get rid of that scrolling news bar in the upper right hand corner, and I had no idea. She doesn't like the fact it tries to advertise to her, and she resents the Playstation Store (even though she has wound up buying many of the titles they advertise anyway, on Amazon). She hates the log-in screen, and doesn't even know her own password because I set it up for her. She gets pissed when it dumps her log-in details, and I finally set her password to be the same as her email password because it's just easier.
Whenever something hiccups with the menus, she rushes out and asks me if she has been hacked.
If there's some kind of glitch in a game that's different from the glitches she's familiar with, she asks me if she has been hacked.
Once she had to sign into the Playstation Network in order to activate a game (Journey or Flower, I think) and she wound up receiving a couple of instant messages from a random player. She freaked out, and asked me if that was a hacker. I was like "Ma, no, that's just some other player out there on the Playstation Network". She was like "I don't want to talk to some person!! Can they see what I'm doing? Are they watching me play my game? Make them go away! I don't like that!". So, she's definitely not a fan of PSN.
She's a fan of the PS3 wireless controller design, and thinks it's way better than the wireless controller design for PS2. I can't tell the difference myself, but she claims the wireless PS2 controllers are 'fatter and bulkier' and they don't 'fit in the hands as easy'. She has two wireless controllers. One to play with, and a back-up to unplug and use while she plugs the other one in to charge. Once, she forgot to plug in the back-up controller and had to use the wired controller. That was a dark, angry afternoon, because she hates 'being tethered'. She's like Beau Bridges when he's playing TMNT in "The Wizard". She has been playing for over ten years now, but she still waves the controller around and flails all over the place (you know, leaning her entire body to the left when she wants to make the character go left, that kind of thing). When she uses wired controllers, she inevitably winds up yanking them right out of the socket. The cats flee for their lives when she plays video games.
She is a fan of Sony because they manufacture more games that are her speed. She was always a Nintendo fangirl until the Wii-mote soured her a bit. She doesn't like Microsoft/Xbox because she says "Every game they make is a goddamn boy game". She will never get over the fact Xbox attained the rights to the Banjo-Kazooie franchise and 'ruined it'. She's a Playstation Mama, all the way. 'Crash Bandicoot' was THE first game that ever got her into video games, after she played a demo of it at Circuit City while waiting for my friend and I to pick out a stereo. Her heart belongs to Sony.
She would tell you to buy the PS3, have no regrets, and don't look back.

Your mom sounds pretty awesome! She is pretty damn awesome. She's also a Picard fan, and watches pretty much every Sci-Fi franchise out there (Farscape, all the Stargates, and she loves TBBT). My friends are pretty much unanimous about the fact my mom is hella cooler than I am. I want to talk about The Sims 2 or The Sims 3, and they ditch me to go talk to my mom about Ratchet & Clank.

I've decided my Christmas gift for myself this year (because that's a thing that I do that's not completely sad) will be a PS3. Amazon has a package deal with a 250 GB hard drive, Uncharted 3, and a one-year membership to Playstation Plus for $250. Based on what I'm seeing from other sites and whatnot, that seems to be a pretty good deal, anybody have any input one way or the other? I don't really care about Uncharted 3, but I hear PS Plus is a nice service to have, so I think it'll be worth it. Also, I've never owned a Blu-Ray player before, so I'm excited for that as well. I'm currently playing Rocksmith 2014 and Call of Duty: Ghosts. I got bored with GTA Online a while back, but I'm sure I'll go back to it at some point. I honestly got really bored with CoD, which shouldn't be surprising, but they usually hold my attention longer than a few weeks or so. I'm really enjoying playing bass on Rocksmith a whole lot more than I'd expected to. I gave my older and fully functional 40GB PS3 to my brother and bought the same Uncharted 3 Bundle that you are talking about. I was constantly having to erase something from the hard drive to install something else and the 250GB takes care of that problem. However, I'm pretty much kicking myself for not getting a 500GB bundle. PS+ free games can fill the hard drive very quickly and there are so many free games that I can't imagine how I would be able to find enough time to play them all much less the games I've actually paid for. PS3 just has so many excellent games that I still haven't had the chance to play. Big love for The Last of Us, probably the best experience I've ever had playing a video game and something that I will not soon forget.

I've been binging away on the new Assassin's Creed and have been really enjoying it, great ambiance and regularly just damn gorgeous to boot even though my machine is getting slightly long in the tooth.

I'm super behind on my games lately. For a while I was trying to plow through all the stuff languishing on my Steam library but that stopped. I dunno where my time goes anymore. I'm also too poor to afford any new games

I'm probably going to cave in and get 3DSes for me and the kids. I already have Etrian Odyssey IV, even though I don't have the system. Between that, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart 7 and the new Mario Part and a few other games, there's a ton we'd like to play. It's a huge time sink, though, so I'd rather stay productive on other stuff. I feel like we might be better holding off for a while.

Don't mind me, token Xbox player coming through. (Not a fanboy, of course.)
But I've been playing more 3DS lately, especially due to Animal Crossing. So damn addictive.

fieldafar Hey, the Xbox is a lovely piece of time-wastage as well. I have a 360 also, and my neighbour works for Microsoft's gaming division and just got a Xbone. We spent a couple of hours playing through Ryse last week which was fun, if incredibly derivative (it's basically God of War in Rome without the incredible level design, but with MOAR POLYGONS). I'm taking that hiatus from gaming but, y'know, if I'm at his place and he's got the fucking Xbone we're gonna play it.

Well, I am playing Wind Waker over this summer and it might in fact turn out to be the first Zelda game I actually finish. I never finished that one. I got to the end dude, but the whole experience was a fun ride.

Well, clearly I am an idiot because I am incapable of completing puzzles designed for children without getting hints. "Oh, you can pick those statues up as well?" "Oh, you can just fly over the lasers?"

Thought I might get an Amazon gift card for my birthday, so held off on getting Europa Universalis IV back when it was more on sale than it is now. I'm still going to grab it at some point today (still ten bucks off, and there are a couple of hours left until the next Steam sale, which may lower--or raise--the price, who knows?).
Started my Irish game with Crusader Kings 2 a couple of nights ago; I think I took a couple more years to unite Ireland than the Idle Thumbs guys, but it was still good fun. Now scheming to conquer Wales.

360s are $100 or so tomorrow apparently, though it is the crappy 4gb model. Already have a PS3, is there any reason I would want a 360?

Not that interested in Gears of Halo. Was kind of interested in Lost Odyssey and the brief run of JRPGs, any of those interesting?

I won't be upgrading until there's a FPS worth getting the new machine for - and, just to add to the difficulty level, one that has more than 4-6 fucking hours of campaign. So, either Halo Rejigged or Fallout 4, probably. Plenty of time to save up!

I wouldn't mind picking up a Wii U. I'd love to get my hands on Super Mario 3D World. And I never had a Wii, so there's a fair amount of stuff I missed and could play.

A place is doing a slightly cheaper Vita. I can't justify buying a Vita, even though it does have Ys so I really want to.
I'll probably wind up getting PS Plus for $30 though.

I'm hoping the Playstation store has an online sale tomorrow. Gamestop is selling a year of PS+ for $30. You can only buy 2 of these but that is a great deal, 2 years of PS+ for $60.
