I couldn't find one, so I made one. I suppose this could fit under "hobbies" but it feels like such a big subject that it needs its own, and I'm not all that familiar or comfortable enough with the Gameological Society to do it that way. A little ironic that I should be starting this, as I only began playing video games again after a two-decade or so absence (I know some of you are familiar with the Crusader Kings 2 AARs I've been posting on Old TI), but I'm loving it. I had today off and basically spent the whole day inside putting together my complete AAR (I finished my game, which took a month, yesterday morning).* I was thinking about venturing outside, but the weather's a little blah, so I succumbed to the temptation and played some of the Victoria 2 demo I downloaded recently. Great stuff; the roleplaying enjoyment one gets from CK2 is replaced with managey greatness as you manage budgets, popular feeling, and the apparent impression on the part of Scandinavian game developers that elections can be routinely called at random times in the United States the same way they can in a parliamentary system of government (I'm pretty sure that usually isn't true, but someone better versed in constitutional scholarship might be able to set me straight). I played the US (as that's the only option), and fought through the Texas War of Independence and a far too early Mexican-American War in which the real-life military campaigns were shifted hundreds of miles northward and southward--fighting in Kansas and Oklahoma instead of the Rio Grande, and the Yucatan instead of Veracruz and the Valley of Mexico, both due to my ineptitude. During which, I faced a rebellion by Jacobin (?) rebels in certain Southern cities, tried to calm the expected sectional tensions over slavery (found the main industry of my own hometown province was apparently "Immoral Business"), and found myself given the metaphorical finger by Brunei (basically a pre-Brooke Sarawak; makes sense, as Andrew Jackson actually had to send a fleet to Sumatra to fight Malay pirates about ten years earlier). Lasted for about eight years before I called it quits, and I just have to reiterate my love for these things. I reckon it's probably too much to hope for an EUIV demo to come out; I'll probably grow tired of waiting for a sale and just pay full price, but there are a few more CK2 games to play before it happens.
Who's playing what? Interested to hear, as there's so much in this field of which I know nothing.
*Actually thinking about posting my AAR on my old angelfire space and linking; is that kosher, DRC, or would there be issues? If it might set an unfortunate precedent, I'll certainly abstain.

I'm still playing a bit of GTA Online, though I've slowed down considerably. I usually play about 30-45 minutes a day now. The jobs are all really similar so I got bored with them pretty quick, and there's only so many to do. Weirdly, after completely burning myself out on Call of Duty really early this year, I've actually started to want to play the new one that's coming out, so I'm sure I'll end up getting that.
I....don't have great taste in games.
There's a cool hipster girl that works in my office now that has a 3DS and it really makes me want to get one because I'm 12 years old, I guess.

Obviously my recent arrival has tanked my gaming time, but when I can I've been trying to finish up Dragon's Crown and I recently started a game of Kingdom Hearts: HD Remix 1.5, not because the HD graphics are "ZOMG Amazing!" or anything, but because it's been about a decade since I played it and it seemed a good excuse to revisit. I haven't gotten to GTA V yet, so I'm going to continue hoping it'll come to next gen.
Despite aforementioned lack of gaming time, I still plan to purchase a PS4 this November, and I'm a little giddy about it despite the fact that nothing at launch has blown me away. I'll definitely play Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag on next gen, and probably Call of Duty: Ghost and Killzone: Shadow Fall. Launch-wise.
Is this forum video game specific? I'm also an avid board and tabletop gamer, at least when I have time to be.

I've finished the main storyline of Pokemon X, now just dicking around and capturing demigods and using incest to spectacular advantage.
Probably will finish up GTA V and Disgaea D2 soon and then play Ace Attorney.

I have not been able to play many video games recently, which is bumming me out. Hopefully this coming weekend I will be able to wear myself out on them.
I plan on getting Battlefield 4, this week.
And yes, I will still play GTA V, even though I am a little burned out on it, due to the fact that my originally high ranked character was deleted, and I had to start a new one. But I know there is a shit ton of you folks on there, so hopefully one of these days, I will be able to play with you.

I finished the main story on GTA V last week and have since been playing Kingdoms of Amular: Reckoning. I have PS+ and have been making a point to try to play the free games more to save money.

I didn't finish it, because it got a little long in the tooth, and I have trouble enough finding time to game as it is, but the 25-30 hours I did spend with Kingdoms of Amalur were great. Seriously overlooked action-RPG right there.

I say go for it; I play board games every now and again when friends have game nights (I sadly don't have the space), so it's interesting about to read what others are playing (especially in case I move somewhere--the hope is strong--where I can actually entertain).

I smashed through Arkham Origins over the weekend. Can't quite finish up everything I want though due to a bug though so I have to set it aside until there's a fix. Aside from that it was goddamn excellent.

I've been playing GTA V with decreasing regularity on weeknights. I don't know that I'll ever have the motivation to beat the game, but staying committed to playing missions instead of just driving around and fucking around should keep me interested.
Also, the girlfriend and I have been playing a lot of Diablo 3 for the PS3 on weekends. It's good, mindless fun.
I'll definitely pick up Arkham Origins eventually, though I don't see spending $60 on it when I've got plenty o' GTA to get through.
Anyone planning on getting a PS4 or XBone on launch? PS4 would be my flavor, but the launch titles seem pretty weak, unless you're a huge fan of the Assassins Creed/CoD/Battlefield series. And the inability to play PS3 games (and my damn good gaming PC for next-gen games) kills its value even more.

Here's my Crusader Kings 2 AAR: www.angelfire.com/ct3/ortega/mathrafollies.htmlTook me a month to play, and am already trying to restrain myself from starting another game (let alone rushing to Amazon to buy EUIV or Vicky 2 before Christmas sales, though Paradox has certainly earned full price).

The only one I can get my wife to play with me is You Don't Know Jack on the PS3. I'll be getting a PS4 eventually, but there's really no compelling reason for me to get a launch unit. I'll wait for at least the first price drop, if not the first hardware revision, before I take the plunge.

I won't buy systems near launch anymore. I'd rather wait until it has a library I might actually want to play. Usually around a year or two after they launch I'll pick one up now.

I've been playing Puppeteer, which has it's charms despite being a bit too easy except for some platforming sections and not having a very compelling story. Also, PSN is having a Halloween sale, so I picked up The Walking Dead: 400 Days and Dead Island last week and will be picking up Lone Survivor this week. I will eventually finish GTA V when I move into my new place. I haven't played that online in a while, so my character may have been deleted like Al's.

The upcoming game "Watch Dogs" looks fun, and I'm saving my pennies for it. What's curious is that I've seen zero marketing for it, and would never even have known of its existence if a friend hadn't casually mentioned its premise in passing.

It hooked me in from the beginning, but I felt that I really understood the game after the Capra Demon fight. In fairness, I have not gotten far, so I certainly am going to keep playing. It's just that enemies reviving after "saving" really bothers me. It's a long standing pet peeve of mine in games. Please please please do not make me do the same things over and over again. It's especially relevant in a game like this, where you're guaranteed to be getting killed a lot. If I keep running up against a challenging opponent, I HATE having to go through things I've already been through to get back to them. If I have to walk down some hallways, it's annoying. If I have to watch a cut scene repetitively, it's infuriating. And if I have to fight my way back through the same areas I've already cleared (multiple times, eventually), it's chew-my-own-foot-off murderous rage-inducing. Dark Souls is the last one, so I worry.

The release date got pushed back. Don't think they want a new IP competing with 2 new consoles (even if it's being released on them), new COD, GTA and Assassin's Creed IV. I'm cautiously optimistic. It looked great when it was first announced, but lately it's been reminding me a bit too much of Assassin's Creed with a cellphone. I don't like the Assassin's Creed games to begin with, so...

That's understandable, and if that's the case then you might find Dark Souls unbearable. I will say, however, that one of the joys of the game is finding shortcuts that allow you to bypass areas you've already cleared, and the fact that enemies respawn really pressures you into figuring out the world, which feels like a satisfying puzzle in and of itself. It is a bit of annoyance, but the other thing is that when you're suitably powered up later in the game and can obliterate enemies that were giving you trouble earlier on, it provides a nice sense of progression. And a very cathartic sense of vengeance.

Even though Assassin's Creed III was a bit of a disappointment, I've nevertheless allowed myself to get slightly excited for Black Flag.
The series is a bit of a guilty pleasure I suppose, I'm just too big of a sucker for exploring beautifully rendered historical cities to not enjoy them on some level, even if the core gameplay is getting quite long in the tooth at this point and the story has always been and remains an incomprehensible mush of Dan Brown mumbo-jumbo. It sounds as though Black Flag has fixed some of the more egregious linearity and pacing foibles of its predecessor however, so at least they seem to be adapting for their mistakes.
Beyond that mostly just been enjoying the tongue-in-cheek silliness of the new beta for the Chivalry expansion, some Rising Storm and CoH2, wrapping up the last campaign of Dragon Commander, and getting in some Rome 2 campaign, which remains a bit rough in places but is by and large quite excellent and enjoyable now, though I'd probably still probably advise potential buyers to wait a few months for continued patching and optimization.

The only game I've been playing lately has been Rocksmith 2014, which is great and miles above the original Rocksmith. Rocksmith is (for those that aren't aware of it) kind of a teaching tool for bass and guitar. It's set up like Rock Band or Guitar Hero, but you use real instruments hooked up to your PC / console and play along with the songs. Lots of fun.
I am, however, very excited for the XCOM expansion.

I started playing Final Fantasy 9 for the first time and i'm totally loving it. great game, i have no idea what took me so long to finally play it. I have also been playing a lot of Payday with a friend of mine for the past few months and it is a great co-op game. I just got the second one as well, but i haven't played it yet because my friend hasn't gotten his one yet. Once he does i'm sure i'll start playing that a lot.
