Silksong was "delayed" to some unknown date. In quotes, because they never announced a release date, so they can't really delay a release they never promised. But, a tweet on the Xbox Twitter account last year suggested, and with some certainty, that Silksong would release no later than June 12 of this year, and for the past several months Silksong has been shown in Xbox Game Pass marketing.
I'm really looking forward to that Hollow Knight sequel that 6-7 years later still looks just like Hollow Knight. I wonder how the clowns on r/silksong are taking it.

Don't think I ever mentioned, but I'm still playing through games for my kids. I was getting a bit frustrated with it, because I struck out twice in a row, and on two games I thought would be slam dunks for them: Bastion and Okami. Bastion looks gorgeous and has a fun approach to storytelling. Okami is one of the most beautiful games ever made, and the main character is a goddamn wolf: my daughter's current favorite animal! But they both lost interest in them. When I'd suggest we play some for the evening's activity, they'd be all "nah." I didn't end up finishing either.
I decided to give it one more try though and picked a game that, no matter how they felt about it, I love and am always ready to pick up and play: Dark Souls 3.
And they love it! They ask to me to play it more often than we even allow. This surprised me, because I thought they liked the colorful aesthetic of most of the games we've played, but maybe I missed the mark there and they're really into the more gruesome Souls vibe. We've finished the entire main game with just Soul of Cinder left to fight, and last night we finished the Ashes of Ariandel DLC (first-tried Friede, thank god). Off to The Ringed City next.

Have y'all seen Elypse? It looks for all the world like someone got tired of waiting for Silksong and just decided to make it themselves.

I think it looks great.

I got Mrs B Zelda: TikTok for Mother's Day, but it came in on Saturday so she played it for a good portion of both Saturday and Sunday. I feel bad that when she started it she got all excited that Link had ALL of his hearts, and she assumed that meant it continued on from BotW and pulled her save data in. I commented that knowing this game genre, she would lose all of her abilities within five minutes, and I turned out to be right. Mild Spoiler: The only thing the game pulls from your BOTW save is all of your horses as soon as you reach a stable.

The only thing I like less than crafting systems in games is full on building systems in games. TOTK is actively repellent to me.
I already don't like open world games, and even worse would be sandbox games or games all about "emergent gameplay." I don't want to make my own fun. That's the developers job goddammit.

I took yesterday off work to have a day to play Zelda. It was a nice day off. In that case, you may be excited to learn that there have been well over a dozen games in this franchise since the original The Legend of Zelda, most of them with better graphics, and one of them released just a couple of days ago.

BioWare bundle on Steam has all the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games for under $20, and specifically the Ultimate, Legendary, Deluxe, etc. versions of them where possible.
I want this, but I can't decide what the percentage breakdown is between:
1. I want this, because I want to play the Mass Effect games again, I really do.
2. I want this, not because I'll replay these games, because let's be real I probably won't, but because I want to be able to scroll down my Steam library, see the Mass Effect games lined up, think "yes, good" and move on with my day

You know, I've never replayed any Mass Effect or Dragon Age games because I roleplay heavily and my first run becomes the canonical one for me. I've tried but I already made my ideal character the first time around so the dwarf rogue or human mage just feels like a cheap knockoff to me.
Also, I've been stuck on Trespasser for the last couple of weeks. The damn twist was spoiled for me on the DA4 trailer so I haven't felt much motivation to play this last bit of Inquisition.

Finished up my Dark Souls 3 play through with the kids last night. Three attempts on Gael, and then got the Soul of Cinder on first try (pretty handily too).
Only boss we didn't do was Midir. I had planned to at least show them the boss since he's so impressive, but I couldn't remember how to find him in the Ringed City, we've been working through this for like three months now, and I was ready to be done with it. Weeks ago they asked if there were other games like this, and I said yeah of course, but since Dark Souls 1 would feel like going backwards (especially visually) and I don't have a viable way to show them Bloodborne, my first choice would be Sekiro.
Last night at bed time, the last thing my son said to me was, "I can't wait to play that ninja game."

A lot of outlets claiming that Tears of the Kingdom's fusion mechanic "fixed" weapon durability, and...nah. Or rather, if you detested BotW's approach to weapon durability you're not going to be happy with TotK at all. If anything TotK doubles down--"WHAT PART OF WE WILL FORCE YOU TO CONSTANTLY IMPROVISE AND ADAPT DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?" You're still going to be churning through weapons, shields, and bows at an alarming clip, and you're probably going to feel compelled to hold onto the really powerful gear in case of a rainy day. However, the game innovates in assuring that a weapon is basically always at hand. Fuse a bokoblin horn (hey, finally a use for monster parts!) to any old tree branch lying around and you've got a surprisingly passable, reasonably durable sword. Stuck in a cave full of ore and your hammer breaks? No worries, there are almost certainly going to be a bunch of sticks and boulders conveniently strewn around that can be fused together. As someone who was moderately annoyed with BotW's weapon durability but was on board with the philosophy behind it, I'm having a grand old time. No, my gripe with TotK is they took away my precious infinite bombs, which seriously cramps my "find a high spot and cheese the hell out of everyone with free damage" playing style. The trade off is that now you have access to bomb flowers, which you can freely fuse to your arrows, and those fuckers are powerful--you can take out a whole bokoblin camp with three or four. Unfortunately, for where I am in the game at least, bomb flowers are still pretty thin on the ground.

I hated the durability system in BOTW, but the fuse function really is making it less annoying in this one, at least with melee weapons. Bows seem to break alarmingly quickly, though, and shields are just a special occasion item for me now. But yeah, I miss just picking a high spot and dropping bombs until everyone dies.

My daughter left her Switch here while she's off swanning about Europe so I started playing ToTK. I'm just wandering around collecting apples and mushrooms because honestly I don't have it in me to do anything more complicated than that. It's very relaxing.
ETA: I played a little of BoTW once years ago - I don't really remember anything about it.

I support AGDQ's choice to remain remote and the reasons for that choice, but this week's SDGQ just makes it so clear that it's more fun with the live audience vibing along with the runner and couch. Right now I'm working through my usual routine of watching almost any run that's less than 20 minutes, then I'll go back a cherry pick from the longer stuff.

I'm trying to get through Skyward Sword because I am making myself do so before I get Tears Of The Kingdom and even in the HD remake I fucking hate the controls, especially the fighting.

I appreciate how they still have some online blocks so that international runners can participate, but I'd think they could still project them up on a screen at the physical location and pump in the crowd noise or something. Incidentally, they moved the SGDQ Minneapolis location from a hotel down by the airport to one right the middle of downtown, just a short a bus ride away for us. Alas, my extremely pregnant partner doesn't seem too interested in attending. Maybe next year...

Man, the scheduling/tech issues were brutal with this SGDQ. Poor C was looking forward to the Mario Maker relay all week but ended up falling asleep halfway through because the event was pushed from 8:00 to 10:30. That's a shame, because the race was incredible as always. The other runs I caught and enjoyed included:
-Elden Ring -Super Mario Bros. one-handed -Kaizo Monkey Ball -Titanfall 2 -Hi-fi Rush -Castlevania randomizer -Peggle -Ring Fit

Finally finished Dragon Age Inquisition. Forgot how much of a pain the Keep website is so I can transfer my choices to DA4.
Also I just started Sifu. The controls aren't as satisfying as I wanted for a game about beating up mooks with kung fu. From the trailer I imagined something like God Hand or that beat-em-up mini-game from one of the previous Tekkens (was it 4?) but the combos aren't coming naturally to me. I feel like I want it to be more, I dunno, technical? It's hard to articulate but it's just not clicking for me.
There's an Oldboy hallway fight in the first level which I guess is neat but so far I'm not getting the "crazy gonzo shit" feeling I get from watching like Tom Yum Goong, which I expected from the trailer.
