So I went looking at coats - I want to replace my "standard" winter coat, which is good for like, the 15-45 degree range -- cold and good with a scarf and hat but a little dressier for work/in the car. As opposed to my giant puffy walking sleeping bag coat.
I was thinking something along the wool peacoat range.
Women's sizes are so dumb. I want it roomy enough to be able to wear a couple layers under. I wear a 12 or 14, which can be a medium, large or XL depending on the brand -- so why do even the XL coats I tried on feel on the snug side? Put more room in the arm holes! Geez, people! Do I need to buy a 2XL coat just to get a little extra room?

I like the poofy coat I bought and the beige work coat I bought from there.

Because I am actually going to a wedding one week after surgery, I have to do something with the shorts. But I googled "suit shorts" and threw up in my mouth.
Khaki shorts with no cargo pockets, white shirt with tie and jacket?

Because I am actually going to a wedding one week after surgery, I have to do something with the shorts. But I googled "suit shorts" and threw up in my mouth. Khaki shorts with no cargo pockets, white shirt with tie and jacket? I pinged two friends about this. Friend #1 is very wedding-savvy Sarah: first off i'd maybe let whichever component of the couple know that he'll be wearing shorts because of the surgery they can pre-warn any relatives prone to saying rude things about wedding attire is this a casual-ish wedding or fancy formal black tie thing me: not sure Sarah: he's gonna have a rough time if it's black tie I think, depending on the event, he would be okay wearing a nicer pair of shorts (nice khaki shorts? Is that a thing? Linen shorts?) me: yes, that is a thing. linen shorts I think are for summer Friend #2 is very fashion-savvy Eric: How very GQ of him Eric: About to head to a meeting. I'll drop you an email after I'm done So...this advice post to be continued I think we can all agree we're gonna need a Selfie Thread post of your wedding apparel.

Now because of Ron Howard Voice's friend I feel accomplished about having thought about the problem without having yet taken steps. I think a selfie will have to be in order. I'm not too worried about tone, because this is a wedding between former NY hipsters who are recent NC emigrants, one even was in a successful indie band for years. Also I will be on crutches besides the brace, which I think ought to be pretty explanatory for anyone feeling judgemental. Hawkguy it's a good thing you didn't read my comments on the first couple AVC reviews of "Vice Principals".

EDIT: He endorses your khaki and white shirt plan. Good to know! My backup plan was an Angus Young sort of thing, but I should demur. I won't be in any condition to duckwalk anyway.

It's been a while since I've had any fashion enthusiasm. My wardrobe is so boring! But in the springtime my office's dress code was relaxed so that jeans were allowed, rather than something I wore all the time to flaunt the rules. With that announcement, all my interest in wearing anything nice pretty much went out the window. (Also, I have put on a bit of weight this year, so I'm feeling a lot less cute than I used to.) But! With sweater season approaching I'm suddenly roaring back to life. What's better than wearing jeans and a sweater every single day?? Last week I decided to punch up my sweater collection a bit, because I can't resist NM Last Call's persistent "OMG, PLEASE, TAKE ANOTHER 40% OFF! AND ANOTHER! AND ANOTHER!" emails. I mean, I couldn't afford NOT to buy these sweaters (the one on the right in a beige color): Is it sweater weather yet? How about now? Now? How about now?

I think it'd have to be at least 30 degrees cooler here before I wore a sweater like the one of the left. The one on the right is very cute - I like it in the navy.

After a jog yesterday I took the dog out in running leggings, a workout t-shirt and my new Women Rock pullover and yeah I get why people would just wear workout clothes all day.

Per the picture above, at what point did it become common for women to wear a diamond engagement ring and wedding band on the same finger? I never noticed it before, say, 10 years ago. Maybe that's just because I have since aged into the marriagable yuppie demographic, but I still don't see that on my parents and people their age.

It's always been the engagement ring and wedding ring together. Most older women tend not to wear their engagement ring because they'd have to resize it, or just don't want to keep catching it on things.

I always got the impression it was up to the woman to decide whether she wants to wear just her band or her engagement ring and band? I wear both of mine because I like how they look together. My MIL definitely wears her rings all together, they're one welded-together diamond monstrosity. I think my aunt wears both too. (Hers are not a diamond-studded monstrosity.)

My mom didn't get an engagement ring, she got a diamond ring for her birthday, but that was apparently a couple months before they decided to actually get married. It's got a wide shape instead of band + stone, so she wears it on the opposite hand from her wedding band. The older relatives didn't have money for that sort of thing, I think. I can definitely understand being worried that it would catch; I always wondered how my newly-engaged labmates managed to get on latex/nitrile gloves.

Today is a very important day because today was the first day I could wear a shawl-collar cardigan to work. In combination with a shirt and tie, some blue chinos, and a pair of desert boots, it is the very finest in autumnal casual Friday attire.

Today in summer fashion necessarily worn in fall: brown shoes, brown socks, brown belt, button-up double-pocketed red shirt. I have a meeting to go to later.

Is wearing this sort of hat vaguely ridiculous in the modern era? I kind of love it, but on the other hand it seems so hipsterish that I don't know that I'd be able to bring myself to actually wear it ever.

Not caring what anyone thinks of clothes you like was the original idea of vintage fashion and hipster-ism before it became an ouroboros. I always liked the old pirates hats like that.
