A bunch of little kids in a greased pig chasing contest at my hometown's annual Corn Fest. (no pigs or kids were harmed). They had fantastic food for lunch today, the best midwestern small-town church social type stuff: Corn on the cob, chicken nuggets, pork loin, fried chicken, coleslaw, baked beans, mashed potatoes, fresh pickled cuckes with tomatoes and onions, watermelon, all kinds of fresh baked goods.

Way too much pickleball. At least tomorrow's matches will be indoors so we don't have any rain delays.

What I believe to be a bobcat, dead, on the parking lot of the schoolhouse i own. There were no signs of struggle, violence, or injury. I have a picture of it if anybody has expertise in identifying Lynx Rufus Illinoisus, but I hesitate to post it here since it is, after all, a picture of a dead animal.

Like a little one-room schoolhouse? It is a one story brick schoolhouse, 6000 sq ft, which had 4 classrooms and a cafeteria/stage area.It was built when they closed the one room schools in the district and parents didn't want their kids used into town. It was built in 1953, and operated as a school until about 1970. Although I grew up about 2 miles from it, I never went to school there because I lived across the line ina different district. I have owned it since the early 90's. It was half house and half business /warehouse. I lived there off and on until 2011 when I inherited my parents farmhouse. We are renovating it to move back into.

These are actually from a month or two ago and I forgot to post them. Anyway... Two (2) signs on the Glasgow underground. The first one to most people sounds like a simple advert for an island getaway but to the denizens of the Shoutbox sounds like a suicide note... And secondly, an old classic which has for 40 years been doing the rounds (literally - Glasgow's subway is a circle). It has now, thanks to the introduction of swish new carriages, been consigned to history but is preserved, here, in TIF-land in all its glory. Marvellous.

A bobcat, walking along the trunk of a tree that was downed in the tornado we had in May. It disappeared into the woods before I could get a picture.

The Waymo car in San Francisco, and lived to tell the tale
Congratulations!
There was one yesterday pulling out of the parking lot opposite of me at the 4-way-stop intersection. It had the left turn blinker on and it was there first. So I waited for it to turn, since I wanted to pull *in* to that parking lot. It just sat there for several seconds. Then it abruptly turned right instead. Fully driverless. Sigh.

It was this weekend, but I saw this dude, a bigger dude with a solid beard, in cowboy hat, cowboy boots, and cut-off jean shorts, cruising along on a skateboard with his rad looking dog running next to him. Just an iconic dude.

Hot day, I was standing near a tree. A guy walked up near and said something to the effect of "Whoa--it's a lot cooler over here!" I believe I watched a man in his thirties discover the concept of "shade".

It was last week, but varying numbers of large-billed crows. They big. Raven big. Squawking and jousting for position near piles of food rubbish left by revelers of evenings' past.
Oriental Turtle Doves were about. Easy to casually mistake for a pigeon when viewing at a distance.
Grey Heron in a pond outside of Ghibli Park. Poignant, eh?

I don't think pictures ever really prepared me for how utterly ridiculous these things look in person. I saw one for the first time parked at the Ren Fair a couple weeks ago with the vanity plates "LOLZ". The thing is just absurd. And bigger than I thought. But I guess it is a "truck."

I was walking over to the library and paused to wait for a light next to a currently vacant older commercial building. There were a gaggle of older tourists on the sidewalk next to me, and as I waited one of them looked intently at her phone, wheeled around, pointed at the building, and said with absolute assurance "Oh! This is the Basque Museum And Cultural Center!" It was not the Basque Museum And Cultural Center.
