How many comments did they end up getting in the end? Because we got about 500 on the Avocado one. I opted out super early. Not being able to change how you sort comments is a huge pain. One of many.. And the discussion is better over on What's On Tonight in Pop Culture, anyhow... |

Between Birth.Movies.Death, Polygon, and Waypoint, I've been pretty well satisfied with my non-AVC content sources lately*. I just need to find a music site I actually like and I'm set. *because I have this place for the people. Also the BMD commentariat isn't terrible usually. I tried BMD after the Dissolve dissolved but couldn't get into it because trying new things is hard. Better give it another shot. I miss the long form essays that used to be on the AVC but didn't seem like they came up with the hot-take headline first and then tried to write the rest of the article to that. Hey now, it's through the AV Club that I learned that Joss Whedon is, and has always been, a terrible monster that everyone should be embarrassed of themselves for liking. |

I tried BMD after the Dissolve dissolved but couldn't get into it because trying new things is hard. Better give it another shot. Should I feel bad because I have no idea what Beckies are? In case you are wondering but too lazy to google, a Becky is a sorta Basic White Woman who flaunts or abuses her privilege in various ways. It comes from the beginning of Baby Got Back, where the one woman says "Oh. My. God. Becky, look at her butt." It became more common in pop culture after Beyonce released her album Lemonade and referenced "Becky with the good hair". |

Whole lot more "Deals" articles now. They were probably holding back for the first week. All the kinja sites have been like that for a while. What I'm getting sick of are the sponsored posts that are always the first thing on the infinite scroll. I don't give a fuck about the Old Spice movie, and I never will. |

Huh, was wondering when AVC was gonna transition to full on "you're the product" style invasive advertising. Those quiet days of Hormel® Brand BLACK LABEL® Bacon and Duracell seem almost polite by comparison.

Let those of us who survived the plague of Newcastle Brown Ale adverts remember, and shudder with horror that the were but a sign of things to come, rather than as we suspected at the time the worst they could ever get.
Also, fuck the design of the new site, but I guess that pretty much goes without saying.

I know we've been talking about the decreased comment count under articles, but it seems like a real line was crossed somewhere in the past few days and now they are positively anemic. Overnight politics threads having only 60 comments? Even the trolls are staying away.
This week's Ask the AVClub only has 18 (approved) comments so far, and usually it's 300 deep by the time I get to it early in the morning.
