Not sure when, maybe the Dissolve split, maybe a little later when O'Neil went over to Star Wipe, but the TOC really started to take a downward turn. The new Newswire writers tried to copy O'Neil's snarky tone, which, I guess had kind of become the house style for those articles. But, trying to force everything into that voice without his talent led to a lot of just mean-spirited hot takes about celebrities. So that, compounded with the rapidly decreasing number of long, insightful articles, really lead to me starting to abandon the site. Even before the Kinja-pocalypse. There were just a few regular columns to check out and then, it wasn't really for the content but for the commentors. It was like trying to listen to a Pearl Jam record and Spotify just keeps playing Creed instead.

Sean just admitted on Twitter that, in addition to everything else he gave AVC over the years, he also invented Random Roles.

All the more reason to not bother anymore, maybe an all new acerbically snarky site will come of this, get the band back together maybe.
