I don't go to the front page anymore. I bookmark directly to my dashboard (https://kinja.com/dashboard), which makes it more likely I'll find something.

I keep thinking I forgot to read all the comments on this week's Ask the AV Club, go back, scroll down the 14 comments that are there, and then remember, nope, that's it. That's all the comments they have so far.
I still haven't set up a dummy Google account just to activate my ported over AV Account. It just seems ridiculous.

i would start anew, itβs impossible currently to reply to anything because your notifications are filled with ghosts of years past

The important thing is now all the DS9 comments have been imported.
Here's one of mine from What You Leave Behind, the series finale:
Apropos.

Hey, it...actually worked. I was even able to merge it with my Disqus-legacy account. Credit where it's due. It seems to have worked for me as well. Whaddaya know?!?

The shift in overall content towards more GJI, gossip rag stuff just makes the old school columns like History of Violence, Apocalypse When, and Together Again all the more jarring. They don't seem part of the new site's "brand" anymore.
Kinja-related: today's Together Again on Clooney and the Coens has the first comment a question of why Jesse didn't mention From Dusk Til Dawn in his article about Coen brothers movies. The barely restrained patience he has in his reply is palpable.

The barely restrained patience he has in his reply is palpable. That sucks; I always liked Jesse for being so willing to mix it up with the commenters in a respectful fashion. Seeing that discussion (and his willingness to respond) puts me in mind of the recent comics posts; there've been maybe one or two replies total when there've been any at all.

I can't see the comments on the new podmass. It says there's 23 comments but I don't see anything.
Figured it out. Also, FYI there's a Kinjamprove extension for Firefox now.

Reading that was the first time I'd been on the site in a long while, and...it's still bad. Also, the comments are still unbearable to read, and I'm not going to switch to an entirely different browser I don't like just to use a hacked-together plugin to make them somewhat barely more tolerable. Ugh.

So there's no way to post with a legacy account without linking it to social media? Fuck. I guess I'm done commenting there. You could make a MarkInTexas Twitter account that you never actually use for the express purpose of linking to your twitter account, I suppose.

I just can't believe they think I'll keep reading the site when I scroll down on mobile and literally half the "stories" in the first couple passes are attempts to sell me something.

Man, the GJIs at least used to have some pop cultural relevance, but these days they're basically indistinguishable from the links my uncle messages me five times a day. www.avclub.com/perfect-jurassic-park-impersonator-created-from-slivers-1818511698I long for the time when they just posted the umpteenth Wes Anderson parody video and called it a day.

Mike Vago is still trying, at least. Unfortunately, his Wiki Wormhole of three weeks ago for Cathay Williams, a black woman and former slave who enlisted and fought for the Union in the Civil War, was apparently eaten during the Kinjapocalypse and is unrecoverable, which is a damned shame.

You could make a MarkInTexas Twitter account that you never actually use for the express purpose of linking to your twitter account, I suppose. True. But I don't think I've really missed anything by not posting any comments over there during the past week. Indeed, I've hardly spent any time at the old country at all over the past week. I was honestly one of those skeptical of just how apocalyptic would be. Given that it's severely reduced my interest in visiting what until a month ago was arguably my second-most visited non-work website (after Facebook)...

I had no initial problems at all with creating my burner account, saving my password, etc., and now every time I so much as try to "star" something, I too am being told I can't until I link the account to another one I have no interest in linking it to. And yes, I'm getting yelled at about Adblocker too. Feh.

Yeah, fuck all of these sites whining about adblockers. If you hadn't made the ads so horrendously invasive in the first place, maybe there wouldn't have been a backlash? You made your bed, now lie in it or build a fucking NEW ONE!
(I refuse to go to Washington Post or other sites that demand you whitelist them.)

I used to occasionally go to Salon, I think those days are done. Everytime I open an article there, a video pops that scrolls down as I do (so I can't just mute it and keep reading) it actually "floats" over the text so I can't read. I'm good Salon, thanks. I probably should have quit a while back anyway.

I think that's how we end up with the ads disguised as content. It's like the increase in product placement in TV shows after TiVo. I mean, the new TiVo BOLT can seamlessly integrate all your favorite content from Netflix, Amazon Prime and more. And it's fully 4K Ultra HD compatible, so you can be sure your setup will be future-proof.* *Advertisement

So... no more Reasonable Discussions, it appears? I couldn't find last week's, even when someone told me exactly where it was, and I didn't bother looking this week. Not that I can comment there now, it seems - I transferred over fine at first, but recently it just directs me to the 'log in with facebook' page, and when I click on the options, nothing happens. I'm starting to come out of the 'missing it' phase anyway, I do believe.

So... no more Reasonable Discussions, it appears? Well, it's 2 PM here, and still no sign of it, so I guess it's as dead as Gawker. It was nice that they tried, I still think, but I guess the rewards to them were too little. Plus the trolls have totally taken over. I'm still going to miss it, but maybe this is good, this is closure.

I tried to use the Reasonable Discussions at Avocado, but apparently, Disqus thinks I'm spam now, and deleted my comments.

Actually to be fair I used to have the avclub whitelisted because I wanted to support them, but despite repeated pleas they kept dealing with a Canadian/International ad deliverer that would constantly give me autoplay spam ads, attempted malware and one time straight up porn ads. Even when the ads were relatively tame they'd invariably be badly done and cause serious mem leaks. Eventually I said fuck it, I tried and blocked everything.

Even when the ads were relatively tame they'd invariably be badly done and cause serious mem leaks. Eventually I said fuck it, I tried and blocked everything. The reason I first installed an ad-blocker was AVClub pages were hanging my browser, and putting in the blocker prevented the problem. At one point, I tried to whitelist them, but the problem returned. I whitelist freeforums with no issues, though.
