That sucks; I always liked Jesse for being so willing to mix it up with the commenters in a respectful fashion. Seeing that discussion (and his willingness to respond) puts me in mind of the recent comics posts; there've been maybe one or two replies total when there've been any at all.

I can't see the comments on the new podmass. It says there's 23 comments but I don't see anything.

Figured it out. Also, FYI there's a Kinjamprove extension for Firefox now.

Reading that was the first time I'd been on the site in a long while, and...it's still bad.

Also, the comments are still unbearable to read, and I'm not going to switch to an entirely different browser I don't like just to use a hacked-together plugin to make them somewhat barely more tolerable. Ugh.

I just can't believe they think I'll keep reading the site when I scroll down on mobile and literally half the "stories" in the first couple passes are attempts to sell me something.

Man, the GJIs at least used to have some pop cultural relevance, but these days they're basically indistinguishable from the links my uncle messages me five times a day.

True.  But I don't think I've really missed anything by not posting any comments over there during the past week.  Indeed, I've hardly spent any time at the old country at all over the past week.  I was honestly one of those skeptical of just how apocalyptic would be.  Given that it's severely reduced my interest in visiting what until a month ago was arguably my second-most visited non-work website (after Facebook)...

Yeah, fuck all of these sites whining about adblockers. If you hadn't made the ads so horrendously invasive in the first place, maybe there wouldn't have been a backlash? You made your bed, now lie in it or build a fucking NEW ONE!

(I refuse to go to Washington Post or other sites that demand you whitelist them.)

I used to occasionally go to Salon, I think those days are done. Everytime I open an article there, a video pops that scrolls down as I do (so I can't just mute it and keep reading) it actually "floats" over the text so I can't read. I'm good Salon, thanks. I probably should have quit a while back anyway. 

Have you seen Kinja's commetariat? "Reasonable" and "discussions" are not things they understand.

Well, it's 2 PM here, and still no sign of it, so I guess it's as dead as Gawker. It was nice that they tried, I still think, but I guess the rewards to them were too little. Plus the trolls have totally taken over.
I'm still going to miss it, but maybe this is good, this is closure.

The site just isn't worth much bother to me anymore. I still check it out, even comment occasionally. But it just isn't recognizably what it used to be.

for sure, but the fact that literally every 3rd or 4th post is a deals share or amazon omg post AND they demand I whitelist their other ads too? 


Actually to be fair I used to have the avclub whitelisted because  I wanted to support them, but despite repeated pleas they kept dealing with a Canadian/International ad deliverer that would constantly give me autoplay spam ads, attempted malware and one time straight up porn ads. Even when the ads were relatively tame they'd invariably be badly done and cause serious mem leaks. Eventually I said fuck it, I tried and blocked everything.
