Please excuse my out-of-touchness. Why have so many people suddenly changed their names and/or avatars? To turn the newcomers' life into a living hell

For god's sake, it would make so much of a difference just to have a Recent Articles page again. It was extraordinarily convenient before the switch, and now that nothing on the front page has any permanence it's completely necessary. Seriously, the only things raised to the featured articles on the top are the clickbaitin'est of newswires. Seriously, have you tried looking at the Dashboard ( kinja.com/dashboard)? For me, it functions just like the recent articles.

There’s no escaping the ad articles.

It was extraordinarily convenient before the switch, and now that nothing on the front page has any permanence it's completely necessary. Seriously, the only things raised to the featured articles on the top are the clickbaitin'est of newswires. If the way the site gets ad revenue is through clicks, why isn't there a longer list of articles on the front page? The ten most recent Newswires condensed to headlines only in some of that vast, empty white space on the side of the article column? It's been less than 17 hours since today's edition of History of Violence was posted, the only column of the day, and it's completely gone from the front page. Which means it's not bringing the clicks. Which means it really is the last of the columns. I think the idea is that most people don't access sites through the homepage any more. Clicks are mostly garnered through social media/Google search results, so the need to have a page where people can conveniently find the content that you are creating in some sort of organized fashion, I guess is no longer really relevant.

It rules seeing shitty comments and not being sure if it's a kinja guy or someone who was always shitty. Some dipshit managed to outdo the Rick and Morty fans by linking to terf is a slur dot com claiming to be outraged by the uh... harassment lesbians were receiving.

The number of people sincerely offended by Sean's "tone" in the "Stop making statues of dead celebrities" column is distressing.

If it hasn’t become obvious, Kinja is designed to enable and encourage trolls as they’re probably their most reliable source of repeat business, note their “burner” accounts for those who need to troll and quickly.

The MrsLangdonAlger imposter is back in the Cara Delevigne newswire and they've moved into doxxing territory. At this point I’m not even sure what to do aside from continuing to report them to Kinja, which doesn’t even matter because they’ll just create a burner account.

I basically can't see the detail on my notifications anymore. The pop-down menu won't load in a timely fashion and opening 'see all' in a separate browser tab just pulls up an error. I don't know if it's something wrong on my end, but it is tempting to blame Kinja by default. Unfair? All I know is that the user experience is getting worse for me. The MrsLangdonAlger imposter is back in the Cara Delevigne newswire and they've moved into doxxing territory. This really, really sucks. I'd wondered about identities being stolen or 'assumed' back when the switchover was being prepped, but seeing it firsthand (for the first time myself) today was unsettling. Someone taking perverse pleasure in simultaneously being a transparent troll and a kinda-sneaky impersonator. Yuck.

I claimed my Kinja accounts yesterday. The Disqus one went smoothly. In all honesty I don't know whether the AVC legacy one succeeded or not, but I'll live either way. Only reason I want an account at all is for the Gameological Friday hang-out.
So, is there any way to find out who "recommended" your posts, other than the last person to do so? I like to know who it is that enjoys my idiot caperings.

The highlighted comment on one of the Weinstein posts is a really nicely disgusting guy whose viewpoint is "you're all kidding yourselves if you say you wouldn't do the exact same thing he did if you were in his position," because Kinja automatically makes comments with a lot of responses rise to the top.
When this is pointed out on another Weinstein post, O'Neal's response is basically "sorry you hate Kinja, but that's how it works. If you don't like it, flag it."
The timestamp on that dude's comment is yesterday at 1:10 AM (on my computer, at least - I don't know how Kinja does timezones), and it's still up. Pretty sure it's probably been flagged to moderators more than once by now, Sean, and yet it's still up as the most-visible comment.

That account is gone now. However they told me they don’t IP ban because they don’t “keep track of that stuff”. I asked them what else they plan to do since this person will obviously just keep coming back.

I asked them what else they plan to do since this person will obviously just keep coming back. One of their comments was a rather pointed threat about "teaching a lesson" and their intent to keep doing it. It's just so strange that in 2017 that Kinja, a relatively new platform, explicitly doesn't have a mechanism to handle this sort of situation nor do they apparently intend to, but then again maybe modern comment systems don't do this because, as people have pointed out, comment systems are on their way out and this is the new normal. Even so I'd think this would be a huge potential legal liability for them.

That response reads to me as O'Neal (and others) essentially reaching their wit's end with the bullshit. I really don't think any of them enjoy what the site has become, and that's putting aside what happened to the commenting community. I mean, the site is now officially trash. It's been edging towards trash for the last few years, but now it's not even worth visiting on a regular basis.

I visit about two or three times a week, mostly to read reviews. I used to visit two or three times a day. I keep up with pop culture news via Vulture now.
