Seems like major AVClub shit always goes down when I'm gone and this week is no exception: I'm at a client the first half of this week so on Wednesday I won't even be able to visit the site until that evening when it's a flaming ruin of its former self.

I already created a Kinja account a few weeks ago using the same email as the old AVC/disqus account. I wonder what kind of trouble that will bring if I port the account over. (Yes, I will bother to do so. I don't get to AVC as much as I used to, but I'll give the whole thing a chance to fail on its own merits.)

I'm indifferent to the Kinjapocalypse. Shouldn't be, because I basically read the AVC for the comments now anyway. But even that has gone to hell, in a way. That's not a knock on anyone in particular, it's just a feeling.

I'm not as sad about the Kinjapocypse as I thought I'd be. Probably largely because I've got here and the Avocado for great internet communities, but also because the quality just isn't as good at the AVC and hasn't been for a long time, so I was kind of ready to move on anyway. This just forced my hand. I also won't miss all the liberal dudes who somehow lose all their liberal ideas the second anything involving women or feminism comes up. At least over on the Avocado I can ban those dudes.

I'm still getting used to using this forum/The Avocado, so I'll miss the relative ease of posting on the Disqus-AV Club. But I'm sure it won't be a huge deal once I get used to the change.
(And yeah, that Joss Whedon thing was a fiery trainwreck. "Uh, I don't see how a pattern of disrespecting women he has a personal relationship to means he's not a feminist?")

I was hoping they would first finish out A History of Violence, or at least this season of Game of Thrones. Speaking of which, do you think they'll still bother to put up pre-review comment pages for the GOT "experts" and "newbie" tracks under Kinja? The existence of those pre-review pages, Reasonable Discussions, and maybe also What's On Tonight are the best evidence that the site cared about the commenting community.

Is Kinja no nesting at all? For some reason I thought it was only one, which was actually the status quo when I registered at the AV Club*. I feel like there was a time before that with no nesting, but I might just be thinking of the struggle of replying to an earlier reply, with a stretch of fifty comments in between at the same level. How did we ever live like that? * I've change avatars once or twice, but I always came back to this one, which conveniently dated it as January 2009, when Patrick McGoohan died and Barack Obama was inaugurated. |

AVC was a great thing to look at at work because it was just a wall of text. The pictures and GIF bullshit is the main reason I don't really comment at AVC After Dark and I fear with Kinja AVC Original Recipe will become something akin to that. |

Depends on what you mean - you still get notified about upvotes and replies (and, unlike Disqus, there's no way to turn upvote notifications off). The interface for it sucks, though. |

I installed this and looked at an old article on lifehacker. It's really only a slight improvement, because I still have to press "Load additional comments" over and over again (it seems to load about 5 comments at a time). Maybe, like Disqus, someone can write something to fix that. |
