So I'm trying to sign up for a Kinja account and I'm now thoroughly confused.
I have two Disquis accounts with the same user name and avatar (which is the same user name and avatar I use here. I'm nothing if not consistent). I created the second account when The Dissolve started, since I wanted to maintain my identity over there but couldn't use the AV Club account--at least at the time I didn't think I could use my AV Club account. Once The Dissolve dissolved, I stopped using the other account, until last week, when I reactivated it with the thought of joining Avocado. I haven't posted anything over there yet, since it appeared like every post had some 600 comments within 30 seconds, but since then, AV Club has sort of been switching randomly between my AV Club account and my other account.
So, I followed the instructions in the Welcome Back article, and I keep getting dumped in pages that don't seem to have anything to do with creating an account. I have no idea if my Disquis account got ported over, and if it did, which one.
tl;dr: I have no idea how to successfully register. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Update: OK, so apparently I have created an account. Same name and avatar. But now it's demanding that I link to another account before it lets me post? WTF?
Update 2: So I got a burner key, and then it still refused to post my message. So, I started over, went through the registration process, got a different burner key, and now my avatar is gone. I really don't have the slightest fucking clue how to (a) claim my account and (b) actually post. I really wanted to remain a part of the community, but now I'm afraid that my legacy account is lost forever because the new account I started has a permanent claim on MarkInTexas. I'm about to beat my head against my desk.

I tried to claim my account and nothing happens, it just goes back to the claim your account page.

Claiming your account works, but then you have to try to make a comment, at which point you have to register a Kinja account that will merge the two I think. I don't know. None of the pictures work for me and it doesn't look like I successfully commented even though I am accurately Vajayjay Leno. It's unusable.

I'm utterly confused with the new layout. Where are the recent articles, the newswire, etc. I thought you guys were a little overdramatic with that whole 'Kinjapocalypse' thing but nope...

I think I'm going to have to look at this tonight - I have a legacy AV Club account and a Disqus account both with the same user name (different avatar) and I just could not figure out how to create a Kinja account.

Well, it's all live now, and I've posted over there, and I feel dirty. It's already been a bad week (I almost got killed for eclipse glasses), and this adds to the suck.

How the fuck do you log in?
Everytime I click on the silhouette in the top right corner, it demands that I either log in with FB, Twitter, or Google, or that I create a burner account. I already have a burner account--two of them, in fact. I don't want to create yet another one, thank you. Why can't I log in with one of the two fucking accounts I already seem to have?
And please tell me I don't have to type in those 20 random letters each and every time I log on once I do figure this shit out.

Yeah, the site just looks a wreck. I'm an in-and-out-all-day kind of time-waster, and the clunky layout of the actual content is dismaying, to say nothing of the shitshow that is the commenting platform (I couldn't use Disqus, so I stopped commenting there ages ago, but still enjoyed reading what shreds of conversation I could get to show up on my office computer). I guess I'm just going to have to find new ways to fill my time at work now...

I think I'm going to have to look at this tonight - I have a legacy AV Club account and a Disqus account both with the same user name (different avatar) and I just could not figure out how to create a Kinja account. Same here. My legacy AV Club and Disqus accounts are the same name and avatar, but I have most of my comments there with my legacy account. I'd like to merge the two, but I don't think that's possible, so I want to use my Legacy account. Using the link they provided, it just brings me to the main Kinja page. It's been over an hour. The link for the Disqus account transition was like this, but it's since been fixed (within 10 minutes of being live). I'd like to wait to convert that one as I'd prefer to use my Legacy account, and I don't know what would happen if Kinja already had an account merged when I try merging a second one. And the instructions for the legacy account say "create a new kinja account", but the link address doesn't seem like it's for that. I can just create a new account off the main AV Club page, but I don't want to create an account using up my screenname and find out I can't merge it since I didn't use the provided link.

I installed this and looked at an old article on lifehacker. It's really only a slight improvement, because I still have to press "Load additional comments" over and over again (it seems to load about 5 comments at a time). Maybe, like Disqus, someone can write something to fix that. I take that back. It does load all the comments. I just didn't realize I have to press "Kinjaprove" every time I get to the end of an article to get it to work.

There WAS a final Reasonable Discussions, and when I went to refresh it about half an hour ago, everything went kablooey. So I now have what I guess is a burner account that I can hopefully link to my old AVC-only login. Very exciting (I have a disqus account as well, I guess I can try linking that at some point.) Boo. Let me know if you have any luck linking your avc legacy account. I never could link mine to disqus so I've been using that and letting my disqus account lay fallow. If it turns out (as I suspect) that legacy accounts can't be migrated, please note: Here lies moimoi, joined 2010 - 1189 comments, 3636 upvotes. 5 followers for some reason, including Claudia Kishi BSC-VP, whose name always made her smile. Moimoi began reading the print version of AV Club in high school, while working at a suburban movie theater that is now closed. She picked up copies of the Onion & AVC to read over cheap Panda Express lunches in college, and she was delighted to stumble upon the AVC website during grad school. She began lurking the comments during her mind-numbingly boring first job in civil service and began commenting when TV club really took off, during the Golden Age of Mad Men and when even True Blood was good. She was extremely proud of predicting Bob Benson's story arc before any other commenter, and once got over 100 upvotes taking on an MRA-type. She also got props from Noel Murray for an astute observation on Boardwalk Empire. Though her commenting dropped off with the rise of Game of Thrones and death of coverage outside of certain genres, she still found much entertainment in the commentariat and the often unique and hilarious voices it contained. She is survived by this account (thank god) and the person you might meet if you pass through Chicago. The bereaved (such as we are) may submit upvotes in lieu of flowers.

The merger wiped out my existing kinja account. So not only will I be spending less time on The New Country, but on its affiliated sites. Kinja is fucking terrible.

Okay, so honest question. If you navigate to one of the subdomains ( food.avclub.com, etc.) how do you get back? Is AV Club supposed to be in the header navigation along with the sister sites? If I'm on food.avclub, how do I get to just plain 'ol AV Club via navigation? ? ? ?

I seemed to be logged in for about ten seconds (not with Pig avatar, but with a random color ball). Now, I'm not again. It's even worse than Disquis's random logouts. At least I knew how to get logged back in quickly.

I really do not like the term "burner account", makes me think of what sort of troll could drift in and start nonsense and no, being in the greys doesn't help because I can't block them.
It's academic I mean, I won't be going there for a while until/if they work out the many kinks including finding GJI articles in the Newswire RSS feed.

Despite not posting there really ever, I went through the effort of claiming my name and making a post. Claimed through Disqus. No posting history, but that's supposed to come later, I guess? Or are people already seeing their posting history in their Kinja accounts?

I think the burner account is a dead end. You need to use a Facebook, Twitter or Google account to proceed with the merge. I tried that with my Google account and it told my my username was already taken. Fuck Kinja. I don't know if any of you managed to figure it out, but you have to keep pressing the grey silhouette in the corner -- it'll give you the burner key, and then eventually it'll give you a different sign-up screen that asks for you to put in your username, and then eventually it will give you a log-in. It's really really stupid and I'm scared that if I log out I'll never get back in, but I am able to post under my old name and avatar now.
