I tried to claim my account and nothing happens, it just goes back to the claim your account page. Same here.

Like most new releases, I'm going to let everyone else deal with it. When the bugs are finally worked out, I'll dive in. I looked forward to seeing you over there in 2153.

Oh my God what a clusterfuck. And the worst thing is that unless I'm missing something there's no organized way of browsing old tv reviews like there used to be. I've been reading the Game of Thrones reviews as I go and now there's no way to find them organized by season, which is just incredibly stupid.

I tried that with my Google account and it told my my username was already taken. Fuck Kinja. I don't know if any of you managed to figure it out, but you have to keep pressing the grey silhouette in the corner -- it'll give you the burner key, and then eventually it'll give you a different sign-up screen that asks for you to put in your username, and then eventually it will give you a log-in. It's really really stupid and I'm scared that if I log out I'll never get back in, but I am able to post under my old name and avatar now. So fucking unwieldy it's impressive. My actually-connected Kinja account is Kangaroosevelt2 because holy god that system does not work.

I've been following your trials and travails all afternoon, and feeling a lot better about having stopped commenting on TOC years ago.

I was logged in to my Disqus account in Firefox, and I managed to merge my account and not be grey on Kinja, but the merging process took me straight from the "create burner account" button to my burner account being created, without ever showing me the burner key. If I understand how burner accounts work, I think that means I can never log out if I want to keep using the account, nor can I ever log in on any other computer. Looking through the comment thread on the Kinja changeover page, it seems a lot of other people had the same issue.
If it's true that the merging process works fine in Internet Explorer, but gives people this fatal flaw in Firefox, I have to assume that the merging process was only ever tested out in Internet Explorer, and if that's true, someone at Kinja should seriously be fired, because that is nowhere near due diligence for this type of changeover. Preferably Ernie.

My actually-connected Kinja account is Kangaroosevelt2 because holy god that system does not work. I kept shouting "REALLY?!" while trying to sign up. I was very willing to give Kinja a try (I've never had to use it before), but after about ten minutes I had to ragequit. Guess it's a good thing I said goodbye last night, because I doubt I will return after that.

The new site is difficult as shit to navigate or even browse.
I removed it from my bookmarks and I'll just rely on its Facebook linking me to articles that pique my interest from now on.

Literally nothing I've tried has worked. Wafflicious has had the same issue too, but she emailed the Kinja team.
Me, I prefer to sit here and sulk and wait for my work day to be over so I can go have a beer.

OK a few freakouts need to simmer down a little because it clearly says we can't merge old AVC-only accounts with new ones yet. I created a burner with my same username, and I'll wait until instructions are hopefully posted on how to merge that with my old one ( moimoi). I know, it's still a bit of a clusterfuck, but clearly some bugs are still being worked out.

I tried "The Invisible Handjob" and it said it was taken, which I find rather hard to believe. So I registered as "tih" but with the full display name. Wondering if it saying it was taken is due to hopefully-imminent ability to combine the accounts.

I haven't even thought to use their own internal search engine since at least 2012.

That's under the section dealing with merging 2 Kinja accounts though, no? Nothing about that under the section about legacy AVC accounts. Ugh this is confusing.

Okay, on Chrome, I did the Claim Account thing. I was already signed into Disqus on another tab, so when I clicked the button, a new tab opened, the immediately closed. I went to an article after a few minutes and it had my avatar when I went to comment. Then, when I tried to submit a comment, I had to login with Google, Facebook, or Twitter, which I guess is the next bit of the setup. So, I guess I am up and running. I also did the Chrome plugin for nested comments and that seems good so far. So, now I can go on lurking on the site, occasionally liking things, and once every two months adding a comment.

"I liked Disqus. I canβt remember a better system at any pop-culture site."
That is so sad. The good one prior to Disqus was literally the best public commenting system I'd ever seen. SO easy to follow long conversations. *yells at cloud*

SO easy to follow long conversations. *yells at cloud* My biggest complaint about the Disqus migration was the "Load More Comments" instead of being able to search through the entire paginated list. So of COURSE Kinja's "Load More Comments" is "Load A Few More Comments But Less Than Disqus". I STILL WANT "Load More Comments" and "Load ALL Comments" god damn it!

Wait, no, I found an organized place. By Googling it. Google has been my go-to for years when it comes to finding stuff at AVC. They have/had possibly the worst internal search tool I've ever encountered. They fixed their search engine pretty good a few months ago. Now, of course, it's back to being a disaster. But what I'm talking about is the idea of each tv show having its own page. On the old version you could click on TV and it would take you to a TV home page, and from there you could either look at the most recent reviews or pick a show from a list to go to a dedicated page for that show's reviews, sorted by season. Now if you click on TV you get the standard shitty Gawker scroll, with as far as I can see no links to reviews organized by show and season. But such pages do exist, because I found them on Google. There's just what seems like no way to get to them in the site architecture, which is hilarious. I defy any of you to figure out how to get from www.avclub.com to tv.avclub.com/c/tv-review/game-of-thrones-newbies just by clicking links.
