So suddenly I can see ads again on AVClub despite having updated Adblock Plus installed. Am I missing something? Actual full-blown sidebar ads or the 'Sponsored Link' ads at the bottom of the articles? because I've been noticing the latter last couple of days, but none of the former. They're "sponsored links". But I used to not see them at all either.

I couldn't find that, but while noodling around with preferences, I unchecked the "allow non-instrusive ads" box and reloaded and that did it.

It's become ridiculously difficult for me to check notifications. Either it opens a new window that tells me it can't access that information, or I click the number icon and nothing shows up. I end up having to reload pages for upwards of 25 minutes just trying to see my notifications.

AVC Twitter account confirmed no TI this week - no explanation. Say it'll return next week.
This has completely thrown off my evening, I can tell you...

I noticed a couple days ago they renamed "Feature Jump" to "Browse Our Features" in the footer.
Also, both charlessage and Our Neighborhood Chemist have had their Disqus accounts taken over by spambots in the last week. Does anyone know whether they were banned or if they were able to regain control and delete stuff without sacrificing their entire comment history?
ETA: looks like charlessage was commenting on the Hannibal premiere, so he survived.

Damn it, disqus! Someone posted in all-caps MANETTI! and I thought it would be funny to post a bit of the Futurist manifesto, by Tommaso Marinetti. So, I made a Reposted Futurist Manifestos account, linked it to a BS email address, and but when confirming the account I was still logged in as Jean-Luc and the BS email is now Jean-Luc’s and the accounts are linked up somehow, with Reposted Futurist having been completely subsumed by Jean-Luc.
Although I’m partially culpable here, damn you, disqus, for making art history jokes harder to make than they should be.

How does one put a profile picture on a new avc account? I tried uploading one to the disqus profile, but no luck.

Same. It's obnoxious as fuck. Once, now, forever -- #dropdisqus.
ETA: If they haven't fixed it by the time the Simpsons Classic review posts, I bet they'll realize pretty quickly Disqus shit the bed.
E-ETA: Damn, I'm a bloody psychic/highly intuitive.

Eat Up Martha had a great suggestion for if the TI isn't up for some reason: everyone head over to the WOT for the day.

...and now that stupid intrusive fucking side-bar does this sort of judder when you scroll down past where it ends. How is this helpful or good for anyone, including the advertisers?

It's basically made it impossible for me to use the site on my phone. The sidebar won't go away so I can't click to check notifications, reply, or anything else.

Is this the side bar that pops up at the bottom of the screen? It doesn't bother me on my phone, but on my laptop, it drives me crazy, having to click it off every single time I load a new page. I honestly don't have a problems with most of the ads, but that one is really making me consider getting an adblocker.

Oh, I have an adblocker... it's the new Most Looked At Post section that seems to be the culprit... and it literally disappeared off the site as I started typing this, when it was present 15 minutes ago. Great Job, Webmaster!

For the last week or so I can't check notifications. I see the red circle with the 9+ number in it, but when I click it, rather than get the comments and likes I have received another page opens up with a error message that reads "Darn it! Something went wrong while trying to load this feed. Try again in a little while. Please visit Discuss Disqus to learn more."
Any ideas? I've tried a different browser (Safari and Firefox) and still getting that dumb message.

I very occasionally get talking ads on the AV Club, which would be fine if I just closed the tab after it had loaded.... except that it starts yelling at me about 5 minutes after the page has loaded, and often I have 5 AVC tabs open at once, and the ad is so small I can't figure out which tab the offending ad is actually on. Combined with that infernal bottom bar on every single page that requires an extra click, it is very frustrating, and I really don't understand how commercial internet sites like this, that rely on ad revenue, feel they should annoy the increasingly smaller percentage of their viewership that doesn't already block ads into following suit.

I'm not sure why I'm so lucky, but I don't have ad blocker, and though I do get the bottom bar ad for Otter Phones or whatever the hell, I don't get any audio on any ads ever. I realize this comment does nothing to address your concern. But on the bright side, it's Friday!
