I've been keeping up though it'll be helpful for anyone following along. Seems they're ready to give spot.im another shot too on Monday, I feel like I'm excitable about it yet feel like it'll be too calm to be fun.

Teti is now on this. Tl;dr - Spit.IM test coming Monday.

Thanks, Post-Lupin for being on top of this. It looks like I'll be stuck using the Microsoft browser to read AV Club if I can't log in via Chrome. It's not a huge loss, I guess (since work has some sort of block on Onion websites that render them bizarre messes with no access to comments, I rarely comment on there anymore), but its still rather depressing. I hope, if they do transition to the new company that they're able to retain our commenting history, but I suspect that, if they dump Disqus, our histories will be dumped as well.

Teti is now on this. Tl;dr - Spit.IM test coming Monday. From RD: That's a pretty good response, open and honest about the situation and what he hopes to gain from this test. I don't trust spot.im after the mess they seem to leave on other sites and they need and I really mean need to import our posting histories and upvote counts because we worked damn hard to get those but at least Teti is optimistic even if we probably are being reasonably cautious about this. Also, Fuck Disqus.

Latest from Teti:
Can't help but wonder if he'd be this responsive without the moaning... but either way, this is the sort of engagement we need.

I doubt we would have got the engagement here that we needed without you prompting him on Twitter, he might have once you asked in the post upcoming regarding the second spot.im test but still, we're getting input and that's what counts.

Thanks for keeping us updated, Lupin!
I really hope they don't go with Spot IM. I feel sick to my stomach just thinking about the clusterfuck last time!

Latest from Teti: Can't help but wonder if he'd be this responsive without the moaning... but either way, this is the sort of engagement we need. There's a similar sort of set up across the cubicles from me at work with an editor in chief who runs content and keeps an eye on surface features/appearances and a product-side dev team that implements things/makes sure everything under the hood works, and based on the way I see their dynamic I'm not at all surprised that Teti was surprised the old AVC accounts were really much an issue. Since you can't see the difference without looking under the hood, he probably had no idea how many people were still using those old accounts until someone dev side made a change (removing the cog) without telling him based on some conversation they'd probably had ages ago. So if it weren't for the moaning he probably wouldn't have even known the change happened.

I've been a little depressed, and I could use a really good laugh. I really wish there had been a way to actually read the read a transcript of that spot.im test. I haven't seen carnage like that since the time I went to a combine demolition derby. Their immediate nosedive into pure insanity was spectacular. When and where will the next test be? I hope I am not out on the road. I might make popcorn this time. If they can come up with something better than discus, then more power to them. I agree about the absolute necessity of maintaining user continuity. I will become very angry and probably despondent if I lose my meager history over at TOC.

There was, is! It's partial but it's some of it, the cogent parts anyway. imgur.com/a/PxLAlThe next test is apparently on Monday, Teti seems to be really playing it close to the chest by not announcing it but to be fair, we dove right in and made a mess of things very quickly the first time around

We're like sharks with a fresh kill when a Newswire drops.

I think last time he gave either 24 or 48 hours notice and he did say to me that he would announce it so got no reason to think he won't just drop it on us.

Semi-unannounced, as he mentioned it in the Cog Thread on Wednesday... which makes his not announcing it in an actual Newswire before now a bit odd.

That's what I mean, I asked in the cog thread, he told me there'd be one, just not when and I guess it is a bit odd that there hasn't been a Newswire about it yet.

We need to go bug Teti again (aren't we doing a test today?) because us non-Disqus types cannot comment on their fancy TV Club Awards page.

Teti just tweeted that the Spot.IM test delayed by a couple more weeks. Also asking him what's happened with PoI reviews.

We need to build a pyramid in dedication to Disqus? Or in dedication to Curb Your Enthusiasm. I'd be all right with that, actually.

Anyone else seeing an option to block people on Disqus now? Yes! Which I find surprising, since I'm an AVC-Disqus person and not a Disqus-Disqus account. I haven't tried it out yet, though.

I just used it to block someone, and have a couple other people I plan to block next time I see them around! Here's the Disqus announcement about it, for anyone who is curious: blog.disqus.com/user-blocking-is-now-available-on-disqus
