I haven't posted in this thread for a while, but this house is .... really something. It looks like a swinger's party playhouse. It was built in 1969 and while some of it has clearly been updated since then, other parts have .... not. www.redfin.com/IL/Oak-Brook/50-Devonshire-Dr-60523/home/18087694(also it's a $2.8 million listing and they have the same jankety cheap shower doors WE have in our townhome that cost less than 10% of their asking price.) |

So I came here to share the bizarro details in my inlaws new house. It’s a spec house, so new but not custom built for them and had been on the market about a year. It’s a nice house, with high end finishes and a good amount of space. But the architect did some weird things.
1. As soon as you walk in the front door you’re three feet from a spiral staircase that goes down, into the basement.
2. There are technically 5 bedrooms, but one of them is at the front of the house with a glass door and is clearly better for an office or den. Despite that it has an attached bathroom with a shower that also opens to the hall.
3. There is a second floor with two bedrooms with en-suites, which are at the back side of the house, with the staircase hidden behind the kitchen. It’s only above the garage.
4. There is a concrete patio behind the kitchen and a lovely covered porch with a fireplace and tv mount. They are next to each other and yet visually separated and difficult to get between.
It’s a nice house, like I said, but not a remotely intuitive layout.

Our new place has a small deck with hooks for stuff on it and apparently outdoor mobiles and deck decor are MY AESTHETIC. I want ALL OF THEM.

I'm always amazed when I peruse the million dollar plus homes on Zillow and so many look absolutely terrible. Even without the owner's furniture in it, they just pick such wildly tacky finishes. |
