Another small dude finished! This is the "Plagueherald", an Oogie-Boogie-style pile of insects inside robes that focus on poisoning enemies AND allies, and then adding additional effects (good or bad) on top of poison. I'm really happy with how he turned out, especially the dulled metallic-blue of the large insect parts. Here's the artwork he's based on for comparison:

I got the OK to support my local game store (of which my friend is the manager) by buying some stuff to keep me busy during the semi-quarantine, so I got some more miniatures of course! Also got one of the Mansions of Madness expansions for Mrs B, and a random board game loot crate for Baby B.

Started assembling the "Van Saar Gang" above. Got three of them done so far: As I probably mentioned near the start of this thread when I was working on Goliaths for this same game, the Necromunda miniatures are both extremely fiddly with about 15-16 pieces each, and also superbly detailed and look amazing when complete. These guys take it to the extreme even. Here are the parts for the guy on the right, for example: Head, data cable, neck, front chest piece, main torso, tubes around head, left shoulderpad, right shoulderpad, left arm, right upper arm, right lower arm/gunstock, front half of gun, left leg, right leg, knife sheath, base. 16, plus the base, so 17. (And I left off some grenades that I didn't want, so almost 18.)

Finished assembling the Van Saar, but photo sucks. Tried to cobble a two-tier display out of cardstock, but the back minis are blurry. Oh well, you get the idea.

May the Fourth Be With You! Speed paint / WIP on Ezra Bridger for Imperial Assault, using 90% Citadel Contrast paints. This took me 90 minutes from spray priming, a new record, but now my eyes are blurry, ugh.

Nice work, sarapen ! I agree, the golden warrior looks really neat. Bones are notoriously a pain in the ass...GW's Contrast paint, Skeleton Horde, works great for it though. I'll show you once I have a few more minis finished.

It's just white with a smidge of yellow to get the off-white bleached look. It's the outfit I'm not too hot on. I didn't really have a good image in mind for it so it just looks like a blob of darkness accented by a brown belt.

Still plugging away at my commissions. Pretty happy with this April O'Neil mini so far: Also started working on this GW Mini, a daemon aptly named Skulltaker. Here's his box art and my first WIP photo - painting him in subassemblies due to detail.

Also progress on Skulltaker! I could probably attach the cape by now, but just making sure there aren't any small details or touchups I want to do first that the cape might make difficult.

Skulltaker is assembled now, and all but the blood on his hand has at least one coat of color on it. I am really, REALLY pleased with how easy GW's Contrast paints make blending. I mean, holy shit, check out his sword and the fire on his other hand. Each of those took me literally two minutes. For the sword, I just put black near the hilt, red at the tip, and brushed them together. For the fire, it was just yellow, orange, red and black.

Assembled these two bad boys over the weekend because I had a "model kit assembly" craving. Two "Ambots" for Necromunda, construction/demolition robots repurposed by gangs as brutes.

Over the past week or two, I've assembled a few Space Marines miniatures which will be part of a Space Wolves army. I've been reading some of the novels about them and really enjoy the lore. And the minis are largely standard Space Marines, but with extra bits to make them more wolf-like, such as hairier/bearded heads, wolf pelts and tails, and rune trinkets. We have (on the left) Aggressors, Intercessors, an Iron Priest, and (right) a Redemptor Dreadnought.

I assembled five more Space Wolves so far this week, the first half of a Blood Claws squad: These are the "newbies" of the Space Wolves army, newly recruited from their harsh home world and transformed into Space Marines by a combination of genetic engineering and implanted organs. They're still relatively wild and feral, so they're sent out as frontline troops to satisfy their bestial violent impulses. They are frequently led by a more experienced squad leader. In this group, that's the older dude in the middle, who I modeled as a Wolf who formerly served in the Deathwatch. Unfortunately, while working on the remaining five minis of this unit, I managed to stab my right index finger right in the joint with my x-acto knife, and hit pretty deeply. Enough that it bled a decent amount before I put on a band-aid, and when I removed that to shower this morning it bled again, so I'm probably going to have to take a break for a couple of days for it to heal. Bleh. Also went to bed early after that because I felt queasy, which at least means I got around 9 hours of sleep and am well-rested today.

Got several hours worth of random progress on TMNT minis yesterday. Finally nearing the end of working on this commission after over two years (!). I've been fortunate that my client is very patient with me. Group shot of the ones on my table that I'm currently working on. A few of the previously finished minis are there because I'm adding coats of varnish to protect them.

Working on these specific minis this week: April is back up there despite finishing her in June, because she needs varnish coats and a custom base. (The bases will be similar to this test base, with random "city street" terrain such as garbage and street markings:) I am repainting both Shredder figures because the black primer coat became hydrophobic over time. This seems to be an issue with a lot of these minis - I believe it's the plastic/resin they're made from. Intending to complete this entire set by New Years', as I have an entire week off from work between Christmas and the end of the year.

Not super miniature, but my daughter found an ugly figurine at Goodwill and painted it to look like American Horror Story: I think it turned out pretty cool.

Once again doing a bit of mini painting. FINALLY started playing Gloomhaven again with my local group two weeks ago. As seen above, I have painted two copies of the "Plagueherald" miniature - one for my local group, and one for my friend in SoCal. Because I painted the SoCal version second, and really liked how it turned out, I attempted to revamp the other one a tiny bit, making it slimier to match. First up, here's the second one with a close-up of its base. I have NO IDEA how I managed to get such a great 3d-slime effect here, but I assume it was due to several layers of paint, washes and varnish. So for the first-painted version, I just added a couple more layers of paint/varnish to the base, and a bit more green and gloss to the mini itself to make it more slimy as well.

Over the weekend I started assembling some more Necromunda miniatures. I am very, VERY slowly working on building several of these gangs with the intention of eventually being able to play some skirmish games at home. Each of the main six gangs now have at LEAST three boxes of plastic minis/parts available - the main gang box, a "champions and newbies" box, and an additional weapons box. I started building the Orlocks, who are a gang somewhat inspired by bikers/construction workers. THIS time, instead of just assembling them based on the instructions included with the miniatures, I cross-referenced the gang's rulebook as well as a gang utility site called Yaktribe to make sure I was building minis that fit the rules and could fit within the 1000 credits cost of building a starting gang for future campaign games. Of course while doing this I still started by building the first mini because he looked cool - an Arms Master with full servoharness and two-handed hammer: After building him, however, I realized that this particular equipment combination ends up costing 300 credits, which is a good 100 over what a typical champion costs, and triple the average for a regular ganger. So I built an alternate version of him without the servo-harness. Second, I built my Road Captain, the leader of the gang. Captains have access to special "combi-weapons", which combine two types of other guns together. Unfortunately, at least for Necromunda's Orlock minis, there are no combi-weapons premade, so I had to kitbash my own using a full-size boltgun and grenade launcher. I think I did a good job, but this weapon is hilariously large, and the guy can barely see over the top of it. Good thing rules-wise this doesn't matter! - I gave him a fighting knife for a melee backup, "just in case he drops this ridiculously huge weapon off of a catwalk by accident". Third, I built a Wrecker, a younger gang member who proves their worth by using an unstable jump pack to charge into battle! I gave him a Servo Claw because it looked neat.

Here's the completed starting Orlock gang! I realized JUST after taking this photo that I'd put the wrong size base on the shotgun guy in the front-right, but thankfully since his pose was one foot on the ground, I was able to pry him off and attach him to the right size base instead. (One of the benefits of using super glue instead of plastic glue, you CAN sometimes pry pieces apart without damage. Plastic glue fuses them permanently.)

For once I actually "finished" a paint job for myself! (Finished in quotes because I CAN and probably will keep working on small details, but am happy enough with this job to play with the minis while I do so and if I don't get around to additional work I'm okay with it.) My Orlock gang: The Arms Master - with and without servo harness: And my kitbashed champ with mining laser: GW's Contrast paints (and Army Painter's Speed Paints) do a LOT of work to make minis table-ready fast. I used mostly those with additional details painted on top of them. Most of the work I still want to do is adding metallic details in a variety of colors. Besides that though, these are done! (The Arms Master - without servo harness - got his first kill last night, a "coup de grace" from charging another fighter who was already on the ground injured.)

This is getting ridiculous. I made my original Road Captain (Leader) with the too-large combi-grenade launcher gun seen above. Then last game I played on Monday, I noticed that according to my gang list, his grenade launcher was only a "Single Shot" model, which made my too-large version with a full grenade drum even more inaccurate, so I built a new version, seen below: THEN, when I posted this photo on the Necromunda discord channel, someone said "Hey, that grenade launcher isn't one-shot." I looked it up in the rules in several places, and he is correct. The "Single Shot" trait on my gang list on the Yaktribe website was incorrect. So now I'm probably going to grab another grenade launcher drum and mount it to the bottom of this gun, or have a few mini-grenades on a belt sticking out the side. TWO WEEKS LATER EDIT: The more knowledgeable guy in my Necromunda group found the rule that fixed this issue last night. The grenade launcher IS single-shot, because the rules for "Combi-" weapons specifically state that these are cobbled together weapons so some addons (such as the frag launcher) are worse than they normally would be, so the Single Shot is accurate.

Played my Orlocks vs. Goliaths on the Toll Bridge scenario last night. (Minus the rotating mid-section of the bridge, because we built the table before reading that part and didn't want to redo it.) Completely assuming I'd end up losing by running my entire gang up onto the bridge against the beefy boys, but I ended up winning! My Arms Master with Arc Hammer pulled a "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" and pulverized his Forge Tyrant, while everyone else fired past him, even knocking two of the Goliaths off the bridge and setting another on fire to run around until he ran off into the toxic river too! Several of my gangers got shot and knocked down and NEARLY fell off the bridge, but they all managed to recover except one, who spent the entire match seriously injured and crawling up the ramp to the rear! One guy eventually did get killed, but only after I'd managed to kill most of HIS gang.

I have been playing Necromunda for several weeks now, and this Monday we started our campaign. I fared poorly in my first mission - where I was the victim of an ambush by the Van Saar, a notoriously deadly shooting army - with my gang leader and three others getting taken Out of Action, but I also got some really great return attacks. My Arms Master (the dude with the big hammer) smashed his way through three guys on his own, and my shotgun champion - while one wound away from death and pinned on the ground - managed to blind fire scattershot that instantly killed one of his attackers! A side note though, when I started going to this new local shop, I put two of my painted miniatures in the consignment case. Two months later, one of them apparently sold last week, so I got some extra funds to buy more minis! Farewell, Kharn the Betrayer!

Playing the Necromunda campaign is a lot of fun, and gives me the chance to build new minis every week or so as I add more people to the gang. At the start of the campaign, and after I tried out my Captain in a few skirmish games, I realized that combi-weapons and mauls both SUCK, so I replaced my leader with a THIRD and final version armed with a power pick and plasma pistol, both of which are pretty good weapons. This is Handsome Dan: I also added a slave ogryn, Lunk, as a "brute" option. He's slow but tough, and if he gets into melee combat with you, good luck not getting beaten or headbutted to a pulp!

I have set aside Necromunda for now due to schedule conflicts with my college courses, but still plan to play in the future. Building Escher and Cawdor gangs a bit at a time.
In the meantime, after discussing my miniature purchasing habits with Mrs B, I committed to paying better attention to my spending in the future, and attempting to resell minis and related stuff on eBay, FB or Discord to support my habit.
So far, so good! Made a few hundred selling stuff on eBay (for a profit over what I paid for them for a change) to give me a buffer to buy stuff, which will allow me to keep searching for deals (such as a bunch of Zombicide packs on clearance for 80-90% off) that I can either resell straight off, or attempt to paint and resell for a profit.

I started assembling the new Khorne Berserkers kit for Warhammer 40k. Always loved these guys...back when I first played 40K in 1998-99, they had just come out with a plastic kit of these guys that, at the time, looked really cool. When I got back into minis in 2018, they still only had this same 20-year-old kit for Berserkers. So now that they finally updated it, I HAD to get some. Now I'm seriously thinking of collecting an entire army of Khorne Chaos Space Marines and Daemons. Which means I also need another Kharn (see above) and he's out of stock everywhere.
