I really hope this Littlefinger/Sansa bit is just a fakeout by the show. They wouldn't really do this, yeah? What do we all think the show is going to do with Brienne and Pod this season? I really have no idea. Pod and Brienne are going to get married and purchase that inn that Hot Pie is working in. Their scenes will be akin to a farcical workplace sitcom. Basically a Westerosi version of Fawlty Towers, and I am so on board.

Stuff actually happened which I didn't know was going to happen - Brienne meets Sansa and Daenerys finally learns her father was a psychotic nutjob. That second one I wish had already happened in the books. Now it's book readers' turn to get spoiled. Oh well, I preferred the TV show anyway.

I kept expecting Hot Pie to show up again because apparently there's only one goddamn inn in all of Westeros. Jesus, Littlefinger, you couldn't have even had your food delivered to the carriage outside? Varys won't even let Tyrion out of his, why are you so casual? Did everyone forget that Sansa is wanted by the Crown for a shitload of cash? I know the Boltons won't care because Winterfell, but damn. Show Littlefinger seems to be written much more poorly than his book counterpart.

That's kind of already happening, I mean, how important can Lady Stoneheart's character arc be in the grand scheme of things if the show is skipping it entirely? It makes it difficult for me to maintain interest in the books to come when the Video Cliff Notes version is right there telling me which storylines aren't going to end up mattering. Yeah, I figure if the show needs to handle anything done by Lady Stoneheart they'll have the Brotherhood do it. I guess Beric Dondarrion can just die offscreen like he did in the books. I'm kind of glad there's no Arys Oakheart since I can never keep the damn Kingsguard straight anyway.

Moving Jaime to Dorne also makes sense because the Riverlands stuff has been more or less completely excised from the series; might as well put him in a location where he does something (and can they even get Tobias Menzies anymore, with all the Outlandering and other projects he's up to?)

Right, the Riverlands, I genuinely forgot about them. I guess the Blackfish is also gone? I prefer Dorne anyway, especially all this Moorish architecture we're getting in the show. And let's not forget Dr. Bashir. I wonder if zombie Clegane will be in this season? Then again, if that happens then we'd have three trials by combat in three consecutive seasons, which might be getting repetitive.

He's never going to finish the books, is he? I mean, why would he? The show will give us an expedited version of the end game, effectively spoiling any key dramatic moments, and once that happens I can imagine his motivation for writing will just fizzle out altogether. He already has a kajillion dollars - why waste his time writing thousand-page books that readers will inevitably tear apart and criticize? He should just rest on his laurels, watch football, and daydream about going on dates with Stevie Nicks. And steer well-clear of internet discussion forums.

After last night's episode I was left wondering if any of the handmaidens we see Margaery laughing with are either Mira Forrester or Sera from the Telltale video game. Of course, for all we know, both are dead at this point in time (Mira is a playable character, Sera a friend, and the game has only got as far as the Purple Wedding, so...) but it's fun to think about.

"Olly, fetch my sword" doesn't quite have the same ring to it as "Edd, fetch me a block," but the Mannis nod was on point and the setup for the inevitable Olly "For The Watch" moment is exciting at least.**
**Total speculation but I'd be surprised if the season didn't end with an "Et tu, Olly?" moment.

FETCH ME A BLOCK!!!!" what I assumed would be right before Jahhhn Snuhhh uttering it only to have that bastard declare, "Olly...my sword."

I forgot how angry I was about the show's woeful and pathetic under-use of Dolorous Edd, but now I remember. Thanks a lot, show.

So fake Arya was replaced by real Sansa, which I liked since it tightens up the story and actually gives Sansa something to do. But I wonder how tall Bran's actor will be by the time the story returns to him next season?

We better get some more warg action though. They have the budget now to bring the wolves back into the story in a big way.

Alfie Allen is only in episodes 3, 6 and 10 this season, so I'm guessing 6 is when the shit hits the fan re: Sansa.

So what will cap this season?
Dany saved by? and riding Drogo? Stannis attacking Winterfell? Jon's denouement? Cersei's walk of shame?
As we reach the end of the books this is getting harder as there is not that much left.

I don't know why people seem to enjoy that the show is compressing the plot--in retrospect it's going to be a pretty terrible plot for the show, with tons of loose ends and dropped plot tangents. Can we ever expect the Blackfish to return from taking a piss, for example? And in the future people will watch Season 3 and wonder why they had that whole thing with the Brotherhood and then never brought any of them back.

So, will they straight-out put Sansa in the same awful position as fake-Arya (raped, brutalised, orally 'pleasured' by Reek and forced to fuck dogs by Ramsey Bolton) or will the threat of her in Bolton's hands cause Reek's break-out? Because I have trouble with the former. Erm, wrong thread maybe?

I seem to remember Ser Barristan and Daenerys having a very similar conversation in the fifth book. I thought pretty much everyone knew he was The Mad King. I think in the book, though, the conversation was more a matter of Barristan pointing out that madness does run in her family, but that while she and Rhaegar were spared, Gold Crown boy wasn't.

Shipwreck Right the thing that emerges gradually in the books is that, while Aerys was a terrible king, Rhaegar had the potential to be a great one (and while Robert Baratheon was a fine campaigner he made for an ineffectual ruler.)
