Dawson's Creek SmallvilleReally, anything on the CW prior to the CW-gateway drug the Vampire Diaries. I had friends in eighth grade who were absolutely obsessed with Dawson's Creek, so I watched a few episodes because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I thought it was contrived and too full of teenage boy-girl drama. I did make it through the first season of Smallville, but I didn't like it enough to watch more of it. I did definitely watch Dark Angel, mostly because I thought Jessica Alba was hot. But aside from Buffy and Angel, those were really the only teen-oriented dramas I watched growing up. And I didn't even have cable - I just preferred to read a book instead.

Okay, but Dawson's Creek still has the best theme tune ever.

I'm always gonna have a soft spot for this one:
which reminds me.... due to tacit association with an ex-gf from a practical lifetime ago, and the fact that they had started splitting the show into half seasons back then, I haven't caught up with it since... I should rectify that some time.

Dawson's Creek SmallvilleReally, anything on the CW prior to the CW-gateway drug the Vampire Diaries. Never watched Dawson's Creek. Smallville I watched maybe 2 or 3 seasons of? It started to get weird when Chloe joined that sex cult MLM thing so I'm glad I bailed.

Video games, although I guess "avoiding" isn't entirely accurate. I don't dislike them or anything. I was way past being a kid when they became popular. I played stuff like pac man and asteroids when they were still sort of new, but by the time more complicated games were coming along, I was working all the damn time, and I just never got started. Now I feel completely intimidated by them. Like, I don't even know how to use controllers. I don't know what different kinds of games there are, or which ones I might like. Our internet, way out here in the middle of nowhere, is shitty enough that trying to play anything multiplayer would probably be useless, and uploading anything, much less streaming, is near impossible. I feel like I might enjoy some types of games if I ever gave it a chance, but I wouldn't even know where to begin, even if I had more time and a faster broadband (or any true broadband).

Not my entire life, but I keep seeing parody song videos on youtube and Huffington Post by some character named Randy Rainbow, and while I am sure I see eye to eye with him on a lot of stuff politically speaking, I think I'd rather eat bees than watch. Especially with the HuffPo headlines like "Randy Rainbow eviscerates Trump AGAIN!"

More recently, I'm glad "Crazy Rich Asians" was made, giving a diverse cast great roles to play and not just "friend of the lead" type stuff. Also that it was a huge success and hopefully proved to Hollywood audiences don't just want white people stories. All that said, I have no desire to see a movie about obscenely wealthy people texting each other and throwing a lavish party. It's like when I heard how much money the Meghan Markle spent on [just!] her Royal Wedding Dress (somewhere in the 50k range IIRC) it just made me feel ill.

It's like when I heard how much money the Meghan Markle spent on [just!] her Royal Wedding Dress (somewhere in the 50k range IIRC) it just made me feel ill. Wise words. I too am thrilled that the movie managed to be that successful with a non-white cast, and I can watch Constance Wu in almost anything. But the film itself is awful, just one tacky glorification of wealth after another and it really does get obscenely wealthy, just genuinely obscene to the point where it's not even "regular" lifestyle porn any more, it goes past that into two-girls-one-cup lifestyle porn. It would be terrible that way regardless of the cast. It's fine to portray wealthy, successful people of all backgrounds, of course, and it's important that there are aspirational films that include everyone, but the sheer amount of money on display here makes the rest of the film next to impossible to enjoy, and the huge emphasis on conspicuous consumption just becomes unpleasant. Since the plot and characters are so light and thin a kitten fart could blow them away you're essentially left with a movies that's a pointless two-hour commercial for 1st class plane tickets, 30-bedroom mansions and Ferrari. Yuk.

Yuk. It actually sounds worse than the trailers and brief clips I have seen led me to believe. I had the same aversion when I saw the Sex and the City movie that took place in Dubai (I think?). I'll pass.

The Sopranos The Wire Six Feet Under True Detective The Leftovers Sharp Objects etc.
Pretty much every HBO prestige drama that doesn't involve dragons. Because I'm classy you see.

Other than the classiness, any reason in particular you've avoided all of them? I'm sure I'm not the first to say it, but you've missed some pretty remarkable storytelling.

Combination of lack of interest in the premises and general preference for comedies and genre TV. And a big part of it is I don't have cable and HBO is super litigious about torrenting their shows.

Me me me, I do! Also, I loved Community, but the fans were so annoying that even when I was an Old Country lurker I avoided reading the comment sections on the reviews there. I think I love Brooklyn 99 more, though. I've not yet seen it, probably because I was like "wrestling...I don't know..." but I keep hearing it's really good. And you and Pedantic Editor Type have good taste so I'll give it a shot! Finally got around to watching S1 of GLOW and enjoyed it a ton! In fact I think it made me understand/appreciate the pro wrestling thing a bit more. Looking forward to checking out S2!
