Looks like it is about time to necro this thread for another season. Here is the latest trailer which has thankfully been brightened up a bit by the good people at the Verge:
So we know some of this, Bran in the tree, Arya blind training, Ser Robert Strong being creepy, etc. But what is new? Hmm, Jaime vs the Sparrow? Boltons vs Wildlings? What else?

Okay, so we're not going to see our the unnecessary purple-haired upstart at all, right? I mean, I'm kind of relieved by this, because seriously WHO CARES?, but I'm also a bit sad because this makes me think he's even less vital to the book-story than I thought he was. And really, for the sheer quantity of words in the series, the less time spent with useless characters, the better. That said, if he showed up and rescued Dany from the Dothraki or something (not that he could), I'd be interested to see where they went with it. One thing I want to see (and I am a bit loathe to say this, as it would mean more time spent with my least-favorite mouthbreather) is whatever-the-fuck is going on in Maester Central. We get so much more on the Maesters in the book than on the shows, and I am pretty interested in The Grand Unified Theory of The Maesters Are Behind It All. I would be so, so, SO amused if Theon is somehow elected in the stupid Kingsmoot. I wish they had condensed the stupid "Arya is blind then not blind" story. Last season was her worst by far. And frankly, I don't WANT to see her identity subsumed by the Magic Glamourface Assassins. I enjoy her in all her feral-yet-largely-impotent rage. Finally, the Honest Trailers for GOT are amusing. Watch them. Sadly, I could not link here because BEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWBS. Also, please let us know if Proboards doesn't allow you guys to delete content. I had to resort to begging Tea Rex to delete this. And I am a mod. WHITHER BE MINE POWER INFINITE, PROBOARDS? [Somewhere else!/Tea]
[Well, now my tiny comment makes no sense. The point is, go google the vid somewhere else, cause it ain't happening here./Tea]We are losing a lot of book plots. I guess that does mean they are somewhat extraneous to the main plot but some are still fun (strong Belwas) and could still tie back into the book main plot, albeit in minor ways. I did not mind Arya's training, but: They are talking more about the Citadel, so I suppose it will play into it somewhat, but I think someone at TOC got it right when they said it looks like Sam may just find info there to help the war. It would be cool though if what he unearthed was some kind of bargain struck between the Night's King and the Citadel.

Of all the myriad character deaths in Game of Thrones, the one that finally made me yell "You motherfuckers!" in rage at the screen was poor Shaggydog.
Mainly because I was hoping that Rickon's return would be as a feral, uncontrolable semi-worg sociopath who chews through crybaby psycho Ramsay and leaves behind nothing but piles of wolfshit with scattered pieces of House Banners in it. He'd be the Chaotic Neutral beserk warrior alongside Arya's super-assassin and Sam's wizard in the end story battle alongside the dragon-riding Dani, John Snow and Tyrion.

It would have been really great if they had to kill shaggy dog, that at least Rickon would have been a growling, snarling beast as they took his hood off.

Someone made the excellent point that if the Hold the Door scene is the same in basic concept at least in TWOW, foreign edition translators are kinda fucked.

Rickon's entire character arc has, to be fair, been an off-screen affair.

Rickon has seen more screen time on the show than he has in the books at this point, yeah? I hope he eats all of Ramsay's dogs and then Ramsay and becomes the Cannibal of the North.

SPOILERS AHOY
I am growing less and less impressed with the jib-cut of the Faceless Men. They started from slaves, but essentially they are creating slaves with the whole "a girl does not question" malarkey. It does cue a big theme of the show/books, i.e. that people often try to enforce their own will through religious justification. I guess the Faceless have always been assassins, but there was a clear reason for previous assassinations before (insurance guy was scammer).
In fact, it's so contrary to my own preconceptions of the Faceless Men that I'm beginning to suspect it's a test, and that Arya is not actually supposed to kill the fake Cersei.
As to the rest, well that last scene was very sad indeed. Bring on Coldhands / Uncle Benjen. And for the sake of the almighty fuck, BRING ON THE MANDERLYS.

Does this season have the highest body count of speaking characters? Every episode has had at least one "plot" character die a horrible, horrible death that comes more or less out of nowhere in an attempt to be shocking, but there have been so many of these, "Oh hey it's that character we haven't seen in 13 episodes! Oh their eyeball just got stabbed...guess they're dead," scenes that that none of the deaths elicit "the feels" and the youth of today call them. It's gotten to the point that when a long missing character pops up in the "Previously on Lost" things Mrs. Viking and I are both just like, "Guess he's dying tonight!" and without fail, they do.
I don't know, I'm just kind of "Meh," on this entire season.

I don't know, I'm just kind of "Meh," on this entire season. Using this virtual Game of Thrones Graveyard, www.slate.com/articles/arts/television/2014/04/game_of_thrones_deaths_mourn_dead_characters_at_their_virtual_graveyard.html (where you can put flowers on character's graves) to determine who counted as a "plot" character, I found: Season 1: 5 Characters dead at the same point in the season, 11 total Season 2: 8 Characters dead at the same point in the season, 13 total Season 3: 5 Characters dead at the same point in the season 10 total Season 4: 6 Characters dead at the same point in the season, 18 total Season 5: 4 Characters dead at the same point in the season, 15 total Season 6: 14 Characters dead at the current point in the season, ? Total I honestly didn't expect this season would turn out to be leading so securely. However, math aside, I agree that the deaths are losing their impact (particularly with Ramsay's storyline in my opinion).

I think the deaths are so constant in season six because the show knows it's reaching its endgame: There are characters that are going to do things in the final one and a half seasons, and there's those that won't, and the latter might as well be cleared away right now (I almost expected Edmure to die tonight, because Tobias Menzies is busy with Outlander and they already have Brynden Blackfish to represent the Tully cause such as it is: I'd fully expect he may be among episode 7's casualties.)

PURE SPECULATION ALERT
Returning to the issue of the jib-cut of the Faceless Men, I'm still not convinced that Jaquen is disappointed in Arya. The Waif's smile at being given the go-ahead to kill Arya shows that the Waif has become emotionally invested, and you have to ask why. My guess would be that the Waif is jealous of Arya and the attention that Jaqen gives her, like a junior high school girl with a crush on her teacher. The Waif got all of Jaqen's attentions until Arya came along. So my speculation is that Arya was not supposed to kill the actress, and in fact this has been a test of the Waif. The Waif's fighting skills are markedly superior to Arya's, though, so I am predicting a Faceless ex machina in the form of Jaqen taking out the Waif just before she can deal Arya the final blow. The Waif's spite towards Arya appears contrary to the Faceless Men's dispassionate approach, and thus it's possible that it is the Waif who showed promise but has disappointed Jaquen. I'd like to be wrong about this, though, as it would be more satisfying if Arya were successful in the upcoming showdown.
If I recall correctly, book Arya has her face removed. The mechanics of the Faceless Men's disguises seem to be slightly different on the show, though, with Jaqen's face morphing suddenly (IIRC) when they first parted as though a glamor were used instead of sewing on a new face or however it works in the books. The show still has the hall of faces, though, so it's hard to say to what extent the disguises on the show are intended to be different.

I think Cleganebowl is off for this season. I just don't see anything that would drag the Hound back to King's Landing soon, but I can't see them delaying Cersei's trial by combat much longer. I'm now very confident that it will be Loras representing the faith. It makes sense as Margaery's next move to plant the idea in Big Bird's head that Loras should be chosen to represent the faith in the trial as a means of earning his redemption. It's a big risk to put her brother in a ring with the Mountain, but I could see her going for it since they're in a tight spot. I don't know how that fight would go though...maybe Loras puts up enough of a fight to send the Mountain into full berserk mode and attacks people in the crowd a la his fight with Oberyn but instead of just taking out smallfolk he ends up killing Tommen.

Does anyone think that she used the juice of the blood oranges to make it look like she was bleeding or at least bleeding more than she was? I know she was leading the waif into a trap, but that does put her planning on a while different level.

I'm pretty sure that, despite TOC, that was her blood on an orange, not the juice of a blood orange. (Anyone else see Charlie Jane Anders' theory on Aria & Termiwaif? My opinion on this is "Hmm...") And, just to compound my folly... I will put cashy money on us getting Lady Stoneheart before season's end, probably as last scene of the season.

You might be able to wear a face, or imitate an old lady's voice, but I can't see her magically perfecting the timbre of Arya's voice.

Fair point: but, what's the use of being able to copy a face if you can't do the voice? This has been an important point since oh, original Mission: Impossible... (I dislike the theory too, but that's not why. Just seems like... cheating.)

I'm done with this show if they kill Ghost. Just leave the direwolves be.
People travel mighty fast on this show. The Eyrie army should've taken a lot more time to reach Winterfell. Anyway, the reviewer over on AVC says the battle was too morally black and white and the Stark flag was perfunctory. That flag hanging was not cathartic yes, but bittersweet, at the same time sorrowful, desolate, and a bit hopeful. A Stark flag is once again hanging in Winterfell, paid for dearly, and I don't think it was meant to be a crowning moment of Stark glory. Look at what the children of the Stark house, the most noblest of them do, forced by circumstance: Jon, face bloodied beats a guy to a pulp and lovely, perfect Sansa feeds him to the dogs. It's a tragic moment for me as a viewer, not one of satisfaction. So yeah, I think it's a very morally ambiguous episode.
I also thought this was the best Daenerys moment by far, and her and Tyrion make a great team. Finally, after 6 seasons of mostly schlock, we see those dragons fly and Dany being a proper badass.
I loved this episode the most this season; which was pretty strong in my opinion. You could see the relief in the writing that there were no more rules to adhere to.

People travel mighty fast on this show. DO THEY FUCKING EVER. The Greyjoys leave Pyke at the end of 604. They're in Volantis (or wherever they stopped over to get they whorin' on) in 607. And they're in Meereen in 609. Basically across the entire globe in the span of four episodes (605–608 I'm counting them as sailing).

I can fan wank that one though since all we have to tie that plot into the others is when Theon left Sansa with Brienne. So add the time it takes Sansa to get to Castle Black, travel all over the north recruiting armies and finally marching to Winterfell and I think it is not too far off Theon traveling to the Iron Islands, Kingsmoot and traveling across the narrow sea. Of course we still don't know if their arrival in Meereen really coincides with the battle of the bastards so there could be a few more months plus or minus to play with there.

Probably won't be able to watch tomorrow, as I'll be travelling to/performing in London, so I'll get this down now.
LADY STONEHEART IS COMING. COUNT ON IT.
And I'll add that her appearance will probably be the last scene of the season.
There's literally no other reason for the last couple of episodes to have both mentions of Cat Stark and the Men Without Banners showing up unless it's to jog the memory.
