@satelliteskynet I have been using this for contouring, along with the only MAC brush I own (168): www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp?itemid=100234Although I dropped it a few years ago and shattered the Accentuate half. But the darker half is still a-okay, and that's the color I use the most. I also have this, but I haven't really tried it (I got it in a kit): www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp?itemid=120681I should give it a go. I'm also a dry-skinned gal, but I find powder less intimidating (because I assume I'll screw a cream up and have to redo my foundation).

After two months, four different night creams, and dozens of pimples, I've finally gone back to the one option which doesn't make me break out: Oil of Olay, original recipe, in all its animal-tested, unnatural glory. EXCEPT: I got the store brand, which at $2.21 comes out to 37ยข an ounce. And it absorbs more quickly and doesn't smell like old lady! SCORE!

Do any of you have favorite brands of haircolor? I'm thinking of going more blonde for awhile since my favorite red is really hard to find. As for makeup, I usually stick to concealer, powdered base and mascara -- I'm very loyal to Everyday Minerals for powdered stuff and brushes and have a lot of blush and eyeshadow I almost never wear. I do like to play with eyeliner sometimes, but have not quite mastered winged yet (like, it will look awesome on one side and fail on the other). I do own a few lipsticks and stains but I am very prone to chewing them off. I've had the same Burts Bees raisin stain for years. I've been using Loreal Feria for over 10 years. I've tried to switch, tried some things on sale, always come back to old faithful. Part of the reason being they were one of the first to carry a natural black (without a cool or warm tone) and I was tired of blue-black hair. Honestly it looks fake goth, unless you're Asian and can really pull off that tone. I could not.

I'm also highly pro-Voluminous. But the one I have is drying out a bit, so I need a new one. I have a Nars pencil lipstick that has an absolutely delicious texture. I'm not sure of the name of the color now, but it's a deep wine color, very matte, highly pigmented. My favorite thing about it is that it never breaks off when I'm sharpening it. Speaking of which, does anyone have a favorite sharpener? I think I'm using a Revlon one now. It's fine, but the eyeliner pencils definitely break at times. I'm absolutely in love with Neutrogena foundation. It gives the smoothest, dewiest finish-- it's been positively compared to NARS foundation, which costs like twice as much. I need to buy another one in a darker color now, though-- I usually mix in a bit of Cover Girl something or another that is closer to my skin tone, but that one has a kind of thick, grainy texture that is far from ideal. The one problem I've had with Neutrogena is when I bought this foundation (years ago, but I'm sure we all use expired makeup, so whatever), the packaging consisted of a glass jar. This means that I need to pour it out in order to mix it, which leads to a lot of waste. And since I tend to do sheer coverage, I really only need a little bit. Too much makes me look kind of artificial, and it turns my freckles grey. I've been making my own cosmetics lately, because I am a weirdo. My big beauty trick is, cheaply enough, papaya enzyme chewables. I don't eat them-- I crush them up to a powder and mix with water. Apply to the face, allow to dry. Moisten slightly, rub to exfoliate. The enzymes dissolve all the dead skin cells. IIRC, papaya enzymes are the active ingredients in the Dermatologica exfoliating powder, which is probably my favorite product of all time, but which also pretty damn expensive. I also do a coffee face mask, which leaves my skin feeling unbelievably soft. Highly recommended. Use full-fat Greek yogurt, as it is way more moisturizing. In terms of actual products, I use Olay Regenerist serum. I would totally buy all their products ever based on this stuff. It's also a decent face primer for foundation and such. What do you ladies do for makeup removal? I usually do some version of the oil cleanse, but if there is some product out there I'm missing out on, I'd love to try it out. I used to love the eye makeup remover from The Body Shop, but I'm not sure what their formula is now. I'm straight up olive oil or coconut oil on a tissue for my makeup removal needs. Unbelievable how well it works. Not recommended if you have oily skin at all, or hate the feeling of oil on your skin. My skin is so dry I can put Vaseline on and it will disappear amazingly quickly.

I have sparse eyebrows. I know, weep for me, children. What problems.
Does anyone know of any good products or techniques? I've tried some products that are supposed to dispense small fibers in your brows but they always end up looking goopy. I've had a few good pencils in the past but those seem to disappear halfway through the day. My face seems to look more normal with thicker brows.

Does nail polish count as makeup? ......well can it, because I don't like putting makeup on my stupid face.
Has anyone tried Salley Hansens gel polish or Revlons color stay nail polish. I can't get polish to last longer than a day.

I can't get polish to last longer than a day. So I bought the Revlon Colorstay polish, wild card, and the diamond top coat. Less than 24 hours and two nails on my right hand are chipping after taking a shower, but not as bad as the regular nail polish I use. Let's see how bad it gets tomorrow.

Nail polish log: Day 3
Nails on left hand barely have any chipping or fading. Slight chipping on middle, index and thumb of right hand. No signs of cracking or drying out like most of the cheaper $2 nail polishes used. This may be a good purchase.

I've been meaning to post here for a while. So I'm fairly cheap and a college student so I try not to spur on makeup that much but focus instead on cleansing products. Although I'm a slave to Lush products I am a cheap person so today I bought a Tea Tree Oil facewash from Trader Joe's and am gonna try that for the next week alone to see how that affects my skin in comparison to the multiple scrubs, washes, and soaps I've been using. Also speaking on the cheaper side of makeup, I really like the brand Elf and their matte lip colors. I use that, the Elf highlighter/contour stick, and a combo of liquid eyeliner and pencil liner for work and I can do all of it under 10 minutes.

This counts as makeup, I guess - I've started using moustache wax. I got a tin from Lush that's as hard as concrete and consequently nearly impossible to apply, I have to scrape it out with my nail. And my moustache is wiry and unruly, it's going to take a long time before it's domesticated. But on Sunday I went to a barber, mostly to ask for advice for beard upkeep, and the guy I saw (a young hipster with a beard that wouldn't look out of place in ZZ Top video) did a lovely job trimming my beard and hair. The barber shop makes their own moustache wax that's a bit softer and smells of beeswax and sandlewood and makes me want to kiss myself - I need to buy some of their wax but they're out of stock. Mmm.

removed the Colorstay nailpolish and want to see how the Revlon diamond top coat would hold with another brand. Tried and Essie polish and it's lasted two days and showers and a lot of handwashing with less chipping than I'm used too.
I'm going to cook later and make cookies, which means a lot of handwashing. I'll see how this goes.

I'll see how this goes. I have some ultra-girly tips for making your manicure last: - Don't use your nails as tools. Don't use them to peel or scrape or tap or scratch at anything other than your skin.
- Don't bite them.
- Wear gloves when washing dishes or doing similar chores.
- A base coat that "grabs" your color polish helps a lot. I like CND's Stickey, but I've been using Revlon's Colorstay Gel-Smooth base with equally satisfactory results. (Two minutes between coats is the sweet spot, but if you're using a quick-dry topcoat, it goes on wet color. I do my nails before bed so I don't have to worry about smudges, and they're always perfect when I wake up.)
Okay, those aren't as high-maintenance girly as I feared they were.

This is a one-week-old manicure. I haven't babied it or anything. I'm saving up for knuckleplasty. (No but really I hate how my hands look, but then I get mad at myself for feeling that way because WHO THE FUCK CARES, I am grateful for my strength and dexterity but I'm saying this so y'all know that I am aware my fingers look like Miss Havisham's when she's retaining water. The polish is Essie's Enuf is Enuf, BTW.)

SLOW and I realized we had opposite nails when we met up. Behold the wonder and the glory: I haven't been wearing a lot of makeup lately because I don't want it to melt off my face in this heat. My question is about hair products. My hair is finally long enough that its natural waves actually look GOOD, so I don't feel the need to flat-iron it constantly. It looks okay with just a leave-in conditioner and some shine goop, but I want something that will actually define the waves a bit more. I am leaning toward the Pantene whip for curly hair, because I really can't find any products designed specifically for waves. Anyone have other suggestions, though? I would definitely recommend John Frieda's beach waves salt spray. My hair is naturally a bit wavy, so I play that up (though I don't have a lot of hair anymore) with that stuff, and it's great. Smells like a day at the beach and it doesn't leave your hair sticky or stiff. Also, today I bought Besame's Besame Red lipstick and I can't wait to get it in the mail. I have the Red Velvet (Peggy Carter's color) but it's a bit dark for the summer.

I used up a couple samples of Dr. Jart's BB cream last week. I guess I liked it? Mostly it's just that I haven't broken out after wearing heavy makeup four days in a row, so that's pretty good.
I splurged and bought Bite Beauty's Matte Lip Crayon in Fraise after I fell in love with the mini of Aubergine. It's a great formula on me. Fraise is a little intimidatingly bright. I need to be having a supremely confident day.
In my quest to actually use all the samples I have hoarded, I tried out Benefit's Stay Don't Stray today instead of UDPP. I think I actually like it better. It's a little tackier and more annoying to apply, but I'm getting no creasing whatsoever.
I think Authentic might be the only OCC Lip Tar that I don't have to spend 20 minutes carefully, carefully applying so it doesn't bleed and feather on me. It's a metallic orangey bronze. A little tricky for my coloring, but I think I pull it off.
(I looked so good today at the bank. Thanks to @scarlettletterowhora for suggesting I dress up!)

Also, one of the best BB creams I've tried is Maybelline's. It absorbs quickly, and gives great coverage without being heavy. Only downside is, it comes in a tiny tube.

Is it pretty good stuff Hussy? I've hit a make-up glut where everything I have is old and I hate most of it.

Is it pretty good stuff Hussy? I've hit a make-up glut where everything I have is old and I hate most of it. I like it, but it's a little tricky. It takes time to apply correctly, you can't just dash it on and go. It's so pigmented! Mixing the colors is fun! And once you've got a method down, it stays on a pretty long time. Authentic is probably my favorite color at the moment, though I have to admit Yaoi has its charms (besides the obvious, which is its name). And the primer is pretty great. But I don't think it'd be good for a kissy person. (I am not a kissy person.) (ETA: this applies only to the lip tars. I haven't tried the stained glosses)

My friend Aja has a new queer-centric makeup column, and it's pretty great: Hard Lacquer.

This is kind of makeup-y? Beauty at least?
My hair is fine but I have a lot of it; untamed it looks like kind of a goofy frizzy mess, but I tame it with some leave-in conditioning oil and a flatiron.
I've noticed when I dry it that I have some interesting natural waves, and I'd kind of like to see how I could do with the "beachy waves" look, but so far my attempts just look like I slept in wet hair and woke up looking weird.
So my question is, does anyone have any product(s) to recommend where I can just apply a little (spray, goo, whatever) and do a minimum of styling and have fun waves?

Especially if it says curl defining. It sounds like we have exactly the same hair type. I usually will wash it in the morning, run some of that through, comb it out, then part it down the middle, pull it behind my ears and twist it with my fingers on my way to work. It's dry and wavy, sometimes even spiral curled when I get there. I've been doing my hair like this in the summer for years, then I blow-dry and iron it in the winter months.
