Went to Ulta with my sister yesterday and could have gotten the lipstick of my dreams (Coral Sinner), but did the responsible thing for once and got skin care stuff instead.

I've been using Ponds antiwrinkle cream for years because it's relatively inexpensive and feels nice and moisturizing. But last month I got a trial size of Olay Regenerist Microsculpting Serum and wow, I actually think it made a real difference, my skin looks brighter and clearer and ... yeah, I bought a full-size moisturizer.
I also just ordered more Everyday Minerals, since I'm low on finishing powder and it seemed like a good time to stock up.

Whoa. Urban Decay's "Naked" liquid makeup is amazing. This is the best makeup I have ever tried. My skin is ultra sensitive. I have a LOT of problems finding makeup that doesn't make my skin breakout. I finally figured out the skin care part. I no longer break out when NOT wearing makeup. I went through several tries with makeup.
Wow. I don't know if this stuff is worth $40 a bottle, but wow, it is great. Like.... it *might* be worth $40 a bottle. Very smooth, weightless, non-oily feel, perfect color match.
Holy shit, am I someone who spends $40 on makeup?

I'm obsessed with body products that smell like bakery so this is my new favorite thing in the world: Shea Shea BakeryEach month there is a themed box. I have the Ice Cream Dream getting delivered today and I am so excited.

When I see women with really obvious pink splotches of blush on their cheeks, I get distracted by it. I am no makeup guru. I was in my 20s before I figured out eyeliner. But I don't think your blush should be that obvious.

But I don't think your blush should be that obvious. Yeah, to me blush is pretty easy? I just go with a color that isn't too obvious on my (super pale) skin and blend like hell. I feel that way about women who have overdone the contouring. I have to admit that I don't understand this trend because I don't think it looks all that great even when it's done with a lot of skill. But then, I was a teen when plucking your eyebrows into a single-file line of hair and wearing lots of white eyeliner to go with your fake tan was the thing, which I also avoided by ignoring my eyebrows completely, wearing almost no eye makeup, never going tanning ever, and insisting on my red lipstick. I've always been a makeup rebel, I guess. Also, Beauty Bakerie's new metallic lip whips are even nicer than the matte ones. I'm wearing Apple Crisp today and it makes me feel so glam. The formula makes for even easier application, with no streaks, and full coverage with just one layer. And it's as coffee-proof as the original versions!

Yeah, I always thought the point was to look like you had a bit of a natural flush, not "HEY BIG PINK STRIPES ON MY CHEEKS" ... I rarely wear blush but when I do, it's just a subtle highlight. I'm all for doing your own makeup thing, for sure, I just ... is that really the look you're going for? This was prompted by a woman I saw this morning here at the office, who had, well, stripes on her cheeks.

Today's look: NYX's The Curve Eyeliner in black, Beauty Bakerie's metallic lip whip in Rosè Posè! IRL the latter is very much a rose gold, which shows up beautifully in sunlight, but I couldn't get a good picture of that.

Just bought this today. 3 guesses as to why. I wear eyeshadow like, twice a year and I still want that. I would repurpose it as eyeliner or lipcolor or something.

Smacks and Pedantic Editor Type, it's just $17 for the palette if you're interested! I also have the Galaxy Chic palette (given to me by a friend) and it's lovely. Lots and lots of pigment considering that it's baked eyeshadow rather than cream or loose. I used to wear a lot of eye makeup in college/my early 20s but got lazy and stopped doing it. I decided that 2017 is the year I step up my makeup game. I also bought this smoky eye palette today, albeit for only $12 on the Kohl's website (I had $10 in Kohl's cash, so obviously I needed makeup) because it seems like it would be good to have something relatively neutral. As it is, the only palettes I own right now are said Galaxy Chic and the Wonder Woman makeup kit from Walgreens, so all together this should give me plenty to work with. I'm very excited for the upcoming release of the Vamp Stamp, which I already have on pre-order.

And that girl has half sleeves on both arms and the one on her left has the same colors as mine and I think I love her and I'm sold. Now I just gotta find some disposable income.

I never would have thought of doing that otherwise.

Minor gripe: ELF has great, inexpensive blotting sheets I keep in my purse. They are about 99c. Used to be 50 in a pack. Just bought a new one and there are only 30 in there.

Part of why I never learned how to do make-up properly is developing in my teens a nasty case of rosaceea. It made my skin so sensitive, it can't take most make-up without drying up and giving me these huge flare-ups. For years on end I spend incredible amounts of money on special moisturizers and such. But lately I've gone the oils route, and now I find using argan oil as a moisturizer and the oil cleaning method (I suppose some of you heard of it, it's just rubbing oil on your face and then wiping it off with a cotton towel) with tea tree to work wonders for me. It keeps my flare-ups under control and I don't feel any more facial discomfort. Maybe some of you struggle with this too, and I had to share it. It really was amazing for me.

I just wanted to give The Stuffingtacular She-Hulk a shoutout; last night, I randomly remembered that she always recommends BH Cosmetics and went to the website only to find that yes, they do carry blotting papers, and they were only $2.25 on sale so I loaded up. And then I saw that all lipstick was BOGO so I ordered one (Te AMo) and got Berry Bite free. I'll let you know what I think when I get them!

I love makeup, but I wear so little of it lately that there's little I can justify buying. But I need blotting papers (I rarely use them on my skin, I prefer using them to blot my lipstick - the cornstarch or whatever they use helps remove the excess and what stays behind really stays) and bright red, berry or hot pink lipstick; I feel like I can finally pull off brights and am having fun with them.

BH Cosmetics is having their semi-annual sitewide sale33% off the whole site, which means I don't feel guilty about buying the Solar Flare eyeshadow palette! I brought the Supernova one with me to California and my aunt loved it so much she bought it for herself. She sent me a text to tell me it came and was really excited. Also, the blacklight highlighter palette - swoon! I have the nude rose highlighter palette and it's very nice, but I want to be able to switch it up a little more. Not to mention, Ulta has a liquid metallic lipstick trio set with the names of Zeus, Apollo, and Athena, so you know I had to get that. In my defense, Ulta brand stuff was buy two, get two free, and I really did need more primer.

Anyone want use of my Ulta 20% off coupon? The brands in this link are excluded, but 20% off is still a pretty great deal. I'm all stocked up right now and don't need anything, so I thought I'd pass it on here. Coupon code is 507490 and it's good through Saturday, September 2.

So this isn't really makeup, but I wasn't sure where else to post this. My very first bath bombs! They’re a little dimpled, but they smell amazing. These are made with rose, lavender, and lemon essential oils, as well as dried rose petals and lavender flowers. I hope to get good enough at making these to sell them in my eventual Etsy shop.

Ohhhhhh my god I am so in love with Makeup Revolution's triple-baked highlighter. It's shimmery without being glittery and it's so buildable. I feel like an ancient Minoan queen when I wear it.

My hair's always been just...straight. Occasionally doing weird cow-licky things, but generally straight. Except it's not, anymore. I noticed a few years ago that when it was wet fresh out of the shower, it has some wave to it. While I still blowdry and straighten it most days, I played around with doing "beachy waves" and trying products to let it dry with some of that wave, without looking like a giant frizz bomb. It worked, mostly, but left my hair a little "crunchy" sometimes. Now, like seriously in the last month or so, the right side of my head in particular has decided it doesn't want to straighten anymore, even with lots of help from the flatiron. My stylist can smooth it way out when she uses the blowdryer and a brush together, but I don't have that many hands/that much coordination. I don't mind it a little wavy, it still mostly looks fine, but now my irritation is that ONE side of my head is wavy. I wish I still had work at home days so I could fuck around with it and figure out what might work without risking looking like a salon disaster in public. (I actually suspect this might be partially due to wearing a headset at work more often - to answer/talk on the phone - but then you'd think it would flatiron out )

Or a tiny amount of conditioner?
I will sometimes pull my hair back into a bun until it dries a bit, to slightly straighten out the curly hair a bit.

My hair is fairly short - chin-length bob right now - so I can't do much with it in terms of putting it up/back. The crunchy factor I think is from using too much spray But I feel like some slight change in product or routine might help, I just don't know what.

Does anyone have any experience with lipstains? Specifically Revlon Colorburst Balm Stain or MIlk Makeup Oil Lip Stain, but really, any? I've been using Revlon Colorstay lipstick for a few months and love it, despite how drying it is, and am considering looking at stains now. I have no experience using them and could use some advice.
