Just what it says on the tin. I bought a concealer brush and WOW I forgot how effective they are. I spent ten minutes brushing away every spot on my face and ended up looking like a goddamn porcelain doll. Even my eye bags look better. The concealer is L'Oreal's Blur Whatever stuff, with Avon's CC cream underneath it all. I won't bother with it every day, but it's nice to have it in my arsenal. I need to get a new brow pencil, tho; this one is too red. Thankfully the effect is less apparent in person.

I'm not up on the most recent findings, but has a consensus been reached about the naturalness or lack thereof of her badonkadonk yet?

@satelliteskynet, this is that orange lipstick article. Here is a little thing my friend Meredith did on orange cheeks... which has no photo anymore. Oh well. And this is is a really great beauty blog by a former friend.

Orange kisses for @scarlettletterowhora, bra strap for oppy all along! The lips are Stila and Milani, eyes are a combination of L'Oreal, Maybelline, and Urban Decay, skin is Neutrogena, Cover Girl, and Sephora. That is a terrific orange.

@fooltheworld, it's really not that difficult, but it takes practice. I think most ladies who think wing-tipped liner is hard just haven't tried it often enough. The great thing about the eye makeup here is that it actually doesn't take as long as my usual eye shadow routine, which requires more blending and so forth. You'll want concealer/foundation/whatever you use for your skin to create an even canvas. I only used two shades of eyeshadow here, one that more-or-less matches my skin and a highlight. Of course I could have defined the crease a bit more, but I think at a certain point too much color work spoils the simplicity of this look. The one thing I wish I'd had time for was a good pluck session, but I think the brows look fine in a small picture like this. So, do all of the above first, and keep the concealer on hand for clean-up afterwards. Maybe some eye makeup remover and cotton swabs as well. I use a gel liner, which comes with its own brush. Dip it in the liner, draw a thin line from the outer corner of your eye to the inner corner. What I do from there is keep going back and forth, gently, drawing a solid line that becomes gradually wider as it approaches the outer corner. When I'm lucky, as I was with this application, the wing-tip will form on its own; I just need to outline and clarify it. At other times, I'll start at the wing-tip itself so I can control how far it goes out, how angled, how thick, and so on. Set with a black, matte eyeshadow For this look, I only lined the outer, lower half of my lower eyelid, then set with eyeshadow again. I do the waterline sometimes, but that seems a bit harsh for a day look. If I had done the waterline, I probably would have used a nude eyeliner just to mask any unwanted redness. If you want, you can line the top waterline as well, but I always think that's more trouble than it's worth. Once you're done, curl the lashes and apply mascara. Keep it easy on the lower part. Remove and conceal any fallout. I always re-highlight if I have to apply concealer. The usual sections-- inner eye corner, brow arch, top of cheekbones. I contoured my cheeks and nose a bit, but the blush I use for this doesn't blend well, and I don't think I did the best job. But whatever. This is the first time I've applied this much makeup in months, so I'll just use the upcoming spring as an excuse to practice. I wouldn't say it's the actual application of the eyeliner that is difficult, but it's hard for me to make it neat and somewhat symmetrical. I can't make a habit of wearing liquid eyeliner to work, but some nights on the town do call for a more dramatic retro look. I'll look in to the gel liner, and in the meantime I'm going to use the lazy LAZY girl's method:

@satelliteskynet Physician's Formula has these kohl sticks that are my new favorite shadow/liner. So easy to apply, or smudge. They don't have the greatest staying power, so use a primer. But they're like, foolproof. The only downside is if you press too hard they break out of the tube easily. But they are awesome trust me. These is them: www.physiciansformula.com/en-us/productdetail/eyes/pencils-liners/07571.html

I am terrible at doing any sort of shape with eyeliner, so I stick to cake liner and just put a thin line at the base of my upper lashes.
I'm all for drugstore mascaras. The one fancy mascara I liked, Fresh Firebird, isn't offered anymore (I think Fresh has eliminated their makeup line except the lip sugars), so nowadays I just use whatever brown mascara Almay produces.

Not so much makeup but my hair, my wonderful hair doing wonderful things all by itself, even with a shitty cut. This is right after coloring earlier this week; I stuck it behind my ears and let it air dry. Only product is a bit of Aqua Net on my bangs. Yes, I am bragging. 🐍 cahusserole 🐍, I am loyal to L'Oreal's Voluminous, despite many forays into brands high-end and low. Their Featherlash was my absolute favorite, but was sadly discontinued years ago. I also like MAC's PlushLash and OpuLash. I hate all the new drugstore brands with their scratchy brushes.

Mine arrived just a few minutes ago! I chose the Peter Thomas Roth stuff because while Cruella is my jam, the NARS satin pencil is not a good color for me. (And I can never get them to sharpen properly without losing half the product in the process, which is a shame because Hyde Park is terrific.)

Speaking of NARS pencils, Velvet Matte Dolce Vita is my #1 lip color. I layer it on top of all my lipsticks (except the mattes) and it makes them a bit warmer, coral-rosier, and yes, velvety. It's also the best nude EVAR for my lip color.

I had Laguna, but I gave it away because it was too warm for me.

Oh, hey, cool, a make-up thread.
Not that I wear make-up anymore.
Still, BeneFit ... there are skin colours darker than 'olive'! Thank you! (Or maybe it's just your wee little machine at the McCarren International Airport in Las Vegas ... but still!)

Do any of you have favorite brands of haircolor? I'm thinking of going more blonde for awhile since my favorite red is really hard to find. As for makeup, I usually stick to concealer, powdered base and mascara -- I'm very loyal to Everyday Minerals for powdered stuff and brushes and have a lot of blush and eyeshadow I almost never wear. I do like to play with eyeliner sometimes, but have not quite mastered winged yet (like, it will look awesome on one side and fail on the other). I do own a few lipsticks and stains but I am very prone to chewing them off. I've had the same Burts Bees raisin stain for years.

I have an un-favorite: Garnier Olia faded faster than any color I've ever used in my 20+ years of hair dyeing, even the reds. Don't be seduced by that $3 coupon in your local paper! L'Oreal Preference is my go-to, tho I mixed my own for a long time, which is super cheap and simple if you know what you're doing (and only keeping the same shade or going darker). Ask a stylist! Revlon Colorsilk is good, and really inexpensive.

I've been using the Colorsilk Luminista for a long time, but like I said, the shade I like is basically only available on drugstore.com. I'd kind of like to go a bit lighter (light brown/honey blonde/strawberry blonde/light auburn) ... I'll check out Preference and Colorsilk. My stylist gave me some tips once on mixing my own, but I'm a little wary. Thanks!

The Haul:What I Bought:
Ole Henriksen Power Peel: Tried this for the first time, and am hooked. If my skin looks this smooth and glowy now, I expect the second treatment to actually shave years off my age. Shiseido Facial Cotton: This stuff is a bazillion times better than regular cotton pads. It's soft as a newborn bunny's butt, doesn't shed lint or tug on your skin, and doesn't soak up a ton of product. The best ever for removing eye makeup and nail polish. I cut them in half to double my money. Freebies:
Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel and Cucumber Gel Mask: Birthday gift! The mask is a great, versatile product. I haven't used the cleanser yet but I'm guessing it's fine. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream: This was one of the weekly bonuses. Ten sample packets! Wooooo! Living Proof Curl Defining Styling Cream: Holy giant sample, Batman! GlamGlow SuperCleanse: A mud-to-foam cleanser I am eager to try. Rave reviews on Sephora. Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream: I am going to be so sad when this packet is gone and I have to turn to a life of crime to buy more. It's divine. Coupon for a free in-store contouring mini makeover, which should be fun. Not bad for $25.50, if I do say so myself. (Plus $10. I sprang for the year of 2-day shipping.)

I used L'Oreal Excellence in Light Reddish Blonde (I considered the Preference, maybe next time) and it looks nice, but it's not blonde. Probably my natural hair color is too dark for blonde to really take without lightening? Ah, well. I'm due for a haircut tomorrow so I'll try and get a selfie then.

I don't wear makeup because I'm bad at it. Also lazy. Also it makes me feel like a drag queen and I am terrible at being a lady. Sometimes I wish I could pull it off, because makeup appeals to me in the same way that beautiful art supplies do - so many colors. Anyhoo . . . recommendations on facial moisturizers? If I could just find one that I like everything about I would buy it all the time. I have really sensitive, pink skin that overreacts to everything. I just want something that feels nice and smells nice (too many hypoallergenic "unscented" creams smell terrible) and won't make my face itch and get all blotchy. Right now I'm using a redness-reduction cream which feels okay I guess but does fuck-all for redness.

I've been making my own cosmetics lately, because I am a weirdo. My big beauty trick is, cheaply enough, papaya enzyme chewables. I don't eat them-- I crush them up to a powder and mix with water. Apply to the face, allow to dry. Moisten slightly, rub to exfoliate. The enzymes dissolve all the dead skin cells. IIRC, papaya enzymes are the active ingredients in the Dermatologica exfoliating powder, which is probably my favorite product of all time, but which also pretty damn expensive. I also do a coffee face mask, which leaves my skin feeling unbelievably soft. Highly recommended. Use full-fat Greek yogurt, as it is way more moisturizing. What do you ladies do for makeup removal? I usually do some version of the oil cleanse, but if there is some product out there I'm missing out on, I'd love to try it out. I used to love the eye makeup remover from The Body Shop, but I'm not sure what their formula is now. 1) We totally have some of those chewables, and they don't get eaten quickly, so I am totally gonna use that trick today. 2) I use CeraVe to wash my face, and that gets most of my makeup off, but I dab a little moisturizer around my eyes with a cotton ball to get mascara and eyeliner remnants off. Gentle and pretty effective. I don't wear a ton of eye makeup, though.

Pedantic Editor Type, just make sure you do a patch test first. If you've only taken them internally before, you could still have a skin reaction of sorts. Some people are very sensitive to papaya enzymes, and I couldn't live with the guilt if you were walking around all rashy and gross because of something some lady on the internet told you. Also, if you manage to get fresh papaya, this works even better. Green papaya is best, but a lot of people find it's way too strong. Moisturize right after, because it can be drying. Hah, thanks for the warning. My skin is semi-sensitive, but not usually rashy I'll test some on my arm first though. I was mostly thinking "oh hey, a use for those tablets we've had lying around for awhile!"

I combined a couple deals on Pacifica to try out their Sea Foam Complete Face Wash (which I've read smells wonderful and is really good at getting eye makeup off) and Dreamy Youth Day & Night Face Cream. Currently I'm using L'Occitane's Immortelle Precious Cleansing Foam, which I've been using for... gosh, going on nine years now. I love the stuff, but it's annoyingly expensive. My current moisturizer is Cetaphil's Tub o' Cream, but that tends to be a little heavy in the summer months, so I'm looking forward to trying this Pacifica stuff.

I'm also highly pro-Voluminous. But the one I have is drying out a bit, so I need a new one. I have a Nars pencil lipstick that has an absolutely delicious texture. I'm not sure of the name of the color now, but it's a deep wine color, very matte, highly pigmented. My favorite thing about it is that it never breaks off when I'm sharpening it. Speaking of which, does anyone have a favorite sharpener? I think I'm using a Revlon one now. It's fine, but the eyeliner pencils definitely break at times. I'm absolutely in love with Neutrogena foundation. It gives the smoothest, dewiest finish-- it's been positively compared to NARS foundation, which costs like twice as much. I need to buy another one in a darker color now, though-- I usually mix in a bit of Cover Girl something or another that is closer to my skin tone, but that one has a kind of thick, grainy texture that is far from ideal. The one problem I've had with Neutrogena is when I bought this foundation (years ago, but I'm sure we all use expired makeup, so whatever), the packaging consisted of a glass jar. This means that I need to pour it out in order to mix it, which leads to a lot of waste. And since I tend to do sheer coverage, I really only need a little bit. Too much makes me look kind of artificial, and it turns my freckles grey. In terms of actual products, I use Olay Regenerist serum. I would totally buy all their products ever based on this stuff. It's also a decent face primer for foundation and such. What do you ladies do for makeup removal? I usually do some version of the oil cleanse, but if there is some product out there I'm missing out on, I'd love to try it out. I used to love the eye makeup remover from The Body Shop, but I'm not sure what their formula is now. That pencil is prolly a Velvet Matte, and yeah, they're fantastic. I love Crunchy Betty! But I can't drink coffee because it's like speed to me. (I do sometimes have a little to enjoy the effects. Coffee, not speed.) I think I'll have to skip the coffee mask, tho it does sound delicious. I like to do an aspirin honey mask, tho I haven't lately what with all my new products to play with. You take about ten or so uncoated aspirin, put a drop of water on each one so they dissolve, then add a bit of honey so it sticks to your face. The salicylic acid does what BHAs do, and you have the manual exfoliation when you scrub it off, then you're smooth and bright! I'll have to try the papaya thing, too. As for removal, I don't wear foundation or eye shadow, so I can get away with regular face wash, and some L'Oreal remover if I need it. Oh, sharpener! Avon makes a great one, that comes with a little pick to help with cleaning, and has little detachable rings so it fits four sizes instead of two. It hasn't mangled any of my NARS yet, so it's a keeper. (My sister is an Avon lady. Terribly convenient.)

@satelliteskynet I failed on the enzyme mask last night, I did not crush the tablets up enough and then put too much water in. Sad trombone. I'm going to try again with better smushing, though. A few pics. Current haircolor (it's growing on me) Please ignore the pimple on my chin. I should have put more mascara on this morning. It's a lot more natural looking than the old one was right at first But that did fade to a more natural looking color.
